TG8
I have always neglected iron shafts and just played c taper lite 110g stiff shafts in my irons. I am hitting the ball way too high for my liking and want a more lower flight. So I got curious and tried the mizuno shaft optimizer at pga superstore on vacation. Pretty cool little bluetooth gadget with interesting results. Driver SS is 115 and was carrying the 7 iron 170 yards consistently Also told me I would benefit getting a tensei ck pro white 70g xstiff driver shaft….thought that was cool. Do you guys agree with the optimizers results and would I see a lower launching shaft with any of the choices??? Thanks for the help see picture attached Edited October 31, 2021 by TG8 More info added Quote WITB Driver: TSR4 9* - GD VF 5x FW/Hybrid: Stealth Plus 15* 3 wood | 18* 2 hybrid Irons: Mizuno MP225 4-GW - modus tour 120X Wedges: Edison 2.0 52* | 56* Putter: L.A.B. Thanks for the help The Optimizer is a great tool to help establish baselines for testing shafts and in general it seems to provide solid results. Will those shafts help you lower flight? The Optimizer simply looks at a database of people that have the same load profile as you do and lets you know shafts that generally work for them. The next step is to hit clubs with those shafts and see if you get your desired ball flight. MC Mark
I agree with CNOSIL, the Mizuno Optimizer is a great tool and a great place to start. I was fitted with the Mizuno Optimizer and then I started hitting balls with the suggested shafts. I found which one provided me with the flight I was looking for and went with it. Incidentally, it was the first shaft on the list but I can tell you the next three were not providing the flight I wanted and then the 5th one would have worked also. I say this to point out that you definitely need to get in the hitting bay and determine which one performs the way you want. To make certain the results were consistent, I used the Optimizer at the beginning of the session and again at the end. My results were very close and the shaft suggestions were identical. I was really impressed with the way the system worked. Has anyone else done this to verify the results and the consistency of the suggestions? DStar
Good to hear that the optimiser gives a good idea of what's needed. I'll be looking at new clubs soon and plan to have a Mizuno fitting with the SO. TG8
Thanks guys ill use this as a guide when getting fitted this off-season(basically now in missouri). I did try the x100 when there and it was heavy feeling but I liked how it slowed my tempo down. @cnosil @MC Mark Quote WITB Driver: TSR4 9* - GD VF 5x FW/Hybrid: Stealth Plus 15* 3 wood | 18* 2 hybrid Irons: Mizuno MP225 4-GW - modus tour 120X Wedges: Edison 2.0 52* | 56* Putter: L.A.B. chisag
... I had been fit as well as fitting myself over the years and knew exactly what worked for me. Mizuno wanted me to do a review of their new MP59's and wanted me to go through a fitting with one of their reps before building and sending me the clubs. First thing he did was have me take 3 swings with the optimizer and it came back with a first choice of: KB Tour S-Flex, 1/2" long and soft stepped once. The is exactly what I was playing in my MP63's. I was very impressed. Interesting to me, I had the same numbers as Luke Donald, just a little slower swing speed. The rep had me hit balls to make sure the trajectory and spin were where we needed them to be and they were, so all good. As others have said, it is a great place to start as it shows how you swing not so much how fast you swing. JohnSmalls, cnosil, DStar and 1 other 4 Quote Driver: Qi10 10.5* ... Hook DeLoft
It’s definitely a good starting point. However, when I’ve done the optimizer in the past, I felt very uncomfortable over the ball. The club was too short and flat for me and I expect it affected my swing and the results. chisag 1 Quote 14 of the following: Ping G430 Max 10.5 degree Callaway 2023 Big Bertha 3 wood set to 17 degrees Cobra F9 Speedback 7/8 wood set at 23.5 degrees Callaway Epic Max 11 wood Ping Eye 2 BeCu 2-SW Mizuno 923 JPX HM HL 6-GW Hogan sand wedge 56 degree bent to 53 Maltby M Series+ 54 degree Ping Glide 3.0 Eye2 58 degree Ping Glide 3.0 60 degree Evnroll ER2 Ping Sigma 2 Anser Cheap Top Flite mallet putter from Dick's, currently holding down first place in the bag TaylorMade Mini Spider Bridgestone XS

Always interesting how set ups effect our swings and mental outlook. Outdoors at fittings my driver swing speed is around 95-98 but indoors it has been as low as 85. I am a target oriented player and not seeing my target and concentrating on my trajectory and where I want my drive to land always feels very strange to me. I think golf shot not golf swing and when there is no golf shot to hit, seems I just don't swing the club very well. cnosil 1 Quote Driver: Qi10 10.5* ... LeftyMatt89
As others have said the optimizer is an awesome place to start. Really important to see how it performs on grass and for a variety of different shots. Like understanding how easy it is to flight it or hit a high draw or fade if needed. You questions was already answered, but just to add to it. The analyzer is a great tool to get you on the right path for what shaft should be best for you. Metrybill
Checked with Edwin Watts manager, a friend of mine. He says yes, at least as to profile of the shaft as a good starting point. Thanks to all who responded. BreakfastBall15
BreakfastBall15
I can attest to what everyone else has said about it. It’s great. I was very unhappy with my current iron shafts, went and tested it out and then hit a bunch of shots with the top 3 recommendations as a few of the lesser recommended.
