BostonSal
I'm not one to get deep into the weeds over shaft technology. I'm not suggesting in any way that it's not worth doing. I just don't do it. Which in part is my reason for asking--are others more careful about matching shafts than I am? I suspect many are. Are they coordinated throughout the set or within a club grouping? If they're all selected on a launch monitor / sim, does that result in many models through the bag or few? My set looks like a bouquet of mismatched R-flex graphite shafts plus a hickory shafted putter. At least I have thirteen matching grips. 1
fozcycle
My shafts are mostly regular graphite, both current iron sets are Recoil 460/660. Driver shafts are Evenflo Riptide/Mitsubishi Tense Ck Blue/Paderson IMRT/Aldila Rogue. Wedge shafts DG Spinner/Recoil 660. McaseyM
5 different for me all in my signature… driver based off fitting that I was lucky enough to remember (CC fitter wouldn’t give me the name/specs after I told him my budget was $500 for both driver & FW shaft, was keeping the F9 heads) 3 wood based on 2nd best driver fitting shaft but upped the weight to 85 (was fit for $500+ FW shaft after I told him my budget) hybird based on previous iron fitting and applied to graphite version of shaft) irons based in feel and performance. BostonSal
Shifting just a tiny bit from my own topic, I was perusing the UK internet golf forum, Golf Monthly. Not one of the sub-forum titles is about equipment. Almost none of the discussions on the entire forum are about equipment. It's pretty much like equipment is a non-issue in their golf discussions. That's a little bit different.
Dennis K
I never thought much about my shafts until recently. I upgraded my driver to Mizuno ST-G 220 with a Fujikura Motore F3 6 Stiff, I really like the ball flight and tighter dispersion so far vs. my old Titleist. It’s made me think about my current shafts on my other clubs and wondering if I am playing with the right shafts, especially my wedges. Right now I have True Temper Gold S300 but intrigued by graphite options. LeftyMatt89
I typically am focused on each shaft having a purpose in my woods and progressing in weights. That being said I have absolutely loved the AXS blue from LAGP. I also have their putter shaft which even if performance isn’t better, a white putter shaft looks awesome. I have xstiff iron shafts and an old faithful s400 in my wedges. It helps me to control my tempo. Shapotomous
Current info is in my signature... My irons and wedges are PX LZ with the irons being 6.0's and wedges are 6.5's. I like the heavier, stiffer shaft in the wedges, I seem to be able to keep shots on line better with those. I recently went from an X flex in the Ping driver to an S flex in the Sub70. The 3w shaft is what came in it after hitting a few of them at 2nd swing in an effort to use my credit. The hybrids are golfsmith components with shafts stiff enough to keep me from hooking them. BIG STU
LOL I am really outside the box of being "normal" which you guys expect of me---- Driver and fairways 3 different brands of shafts--- Irons 4thru PW same shafts but if you put them on a frequency machine one would freak. Of course the 56 has a stock KBS wedge shaft which as a norm I do not like in any shape or form but for some reason in this wedge it feels and performs good for me, Now the putter totally outside the box of normal thinking. Old School Bulls Eye fluted shaft. I know crazy in this age of half graphite half steel shafts and those fancy LAGP putter shafts. But I guess it was the way I learned my feel in the days of fluted 8802 and Bulls Eye shafts. I am capable and have the equipment to build clubs to exact specs but I build my own stuff to my feel whether it consists of soft or hard tipping shafts and weighting up with lead tape. I also have some funky lie angles on my stuff that is not progressive. I do all my stuff for me by eye and feel. LOL a few years back I experimented with a set of KZG ZO blades and set them for me. I decided to stick with what I knew best as in Macgregor irons. I sold those irons to a guy and offered along with the sold price to set them to spec. He declined. A few weeks later he took them to my bud the local Miura dealer and told him those things were all over the place. This kid was a PGM student here. Told my bud he thought I was supposed to know what I was doing. My bud called me and I told him I had offered to set them to spec but the guy declined. My bud did tell the guy I knew exactly what I was doing that those clubs were set for me. I vowed then and there to never sell of offer for sale any clubs I had set for me before I set them to proper specs.
