I have been going home to my mom and dad's house for Thanksgiving since 1971, and we always had turkey.  When that ended last year after my dad passed away, my wife and I cooked a turkey.  We had leftovers... forever, it seemed!  This year we got a London Broil roast that's marinating, and we will cook it when we get home from golf today.  While I like turkey, I don't think I'll miss it.

I'd pass up a roast (or any beef) real fast for Turkey - especially dark meat. And BTW there are never enough Turkey leftovers.

We are gathered at one of our Granddaughters for Roast Turkey , Ham and all the fixings. Have 5 great grandkids running around.

There are when you cook a 20lb turkey for 2 people.    I like turkey; I like hot turkey sandwiches as leftovers; turkey in a casserole; then soup... but not every day for a week!!!  Yes, we froze some, but it's never the same as on Thanksgiving.

My wife will have me vacuum seal some of her ham she makes and use it in soups throughout the year. But I agree, nothing is quite as good as the day you make it.

Lol this was actually yesterday. We hosted yesterday with family and friends and then today my parents hosted.

This was paprika and chili powder brine and then a butter chili powder rub, came out primo

A little late to the thread... hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving.  

I opted for Smoked Turkey this year... Today's sandwich was nearly as good as the Family Dinner last night

Smoked is the way to go IMO. We did fried and baked (no smoker) but my parents used to do all 3 when they would have 40+ over. Smoked was always the best

I'll second the opinion on smoked, it gets stuck a nice crust and the flavor is superb. I'm  really sad my smoker died on me before Thanksgiving.

I appreciate it, Matt. I've got a little time to look around and see what's out there. I'm thinking propane this go round, and its kind of fun seeing what's out there.

I’ll say the propane ones aren’t terrible I’ve used one for years but if you ever want to cold smoke they just aren’t good at it I can never get a cook below 200

@sirchunksalot you might want to look at a pellet smoker. I'd suggest a Grilla Grills Silverbac or if budget is a consideration, the Pit Boss ones aren't actually too bad at all.

Thanks for the suggestions, @MattF! I'll give them a look and see what is out there in the pellet world. I think my biggest concern is selection of pellets and I need to do some research and find out if they have maple, pecan, Alder, etc....

I would love to go this route as I've heard nothing but good things about pellet smokers.

Lumberjack pellets are the best around and come in different "flavours" including pecan, mesquite, hickory, apple, cherry etc.
