Let’s see some 2021 Accomplishments/2022 Goals

Recommended Posts

Great thread! My goals for 2022 are to:

  • Play more golf! I haven't been playing enough in the years past and I want to get out and at least play 9 holes once a week.
  • Drop my handicap from 9 to under 5. I have been taking lessons this off-season and practicing more than I ever have.
  • Compete in some of my club tournaments.
  • Upgrade a few of my clubs and get custom fit for them (I have never gone through the custom fitting experience so am excited about that).
  • Play 2 or 3 high end courses in my area.
  • Decide on what golf ball to play consistently and stick with it.

Man this is an amazing thread!

For 2021 I didn't set out with any golf goals, but lucky for me I started golfing regularly again for the first time in about 10 year. So get back golfing, check. Next key to that was getting my fiancee into golf, check! She had never played before last year and now she Loves golf. Turn golf into our thing, check! Making this a thing that we can do together was a major accomplishment. As I got into the swing of things I was able take my mid to low 80's and close out my year with two rounds below 80!

Goals for 2022:

  • Get a handycap
  • Have handycap be <+4
  • Shoot a round at par
  • Get a driver
  • Work of fitness and flexibility
  • Get my Fiancee to about +15

  • Ping G10 3 Wood, 15.5°
  • Cobra Baffler, 3 hybrid
  • Mizuno MP-67, 3-PW
  • Ping Glide Forged Pro, 52° & 56°
  • Evnroll, ER2

2021 was solid for me, goal was to break 80, and shot 4 rounds in the 70s, including a 76, and had only 2 rounds in the 90s. Roughly 50 total rounds.

My goals this year are a bit more specific

  • Single digit handicap(currently 10)
  • Play the city am
  • Make the cut at City Am
  • Walk 9 before work 12 times
  • Even or better on 9 holes
  • 1 round with no doubles or worse

The past few months of Fall/winter golf have helped fill out the accomplishments. Since the start of November:

- I've had three of my best rounds of golf that I've ever played. 2 rounds in the last three weeks of 4 over par at a local 9 hole course (it may be a very easy course, but for an 18 handicap, 4 over par is 4 over par! And to do it twice in a short time period cause I'm simplifying my motion and process is awesome) and an 87 on my nemesis course (usually struggle to break 95 there).

- I've been averaging 28 putts per 18 holes.

- I've had a birdy in every round but 1.

- I've been figuring out my driver so I that my consistent tee shot is either fairly straight or a little cut.

- Consequently, my scoring average has been 14.6 over par.

With a baby coming mid next year, I'm  not trying to have more goals than to just try and enjoy the times I do get out with friends/family and to try and continue to simplify my motion and shot. From there, we'll see what happens!

Apparently, I did not write any golf related goals for 2021. I am going to fix that for 2022 right now.

2021 Accomplishments:

  • Played more competitive rounds.
  • Won more $ than I spent in entry fees.
  • Qualified for my Chapters Regional Cup.
  • Shot career low rounds both recreationally and competitively.
  • MASSIVLY improved putting!  SG putting was positive for the first time in recorded history

2022 Goals:

  • Play more golf. -  I only recorded 65 rounds last year.  I want to play over 100 this year. Hoping I can get there.
  • Win more $ than I spend in entry fees.
  • improve short game. - SG from 100 and in was abysmal last year.
  • Reduce the # of rounds with a Double or worse. Would like to get this number down to 20% or less.
  • Make more Birdies. - Averaged 3.2 per competitive round last year.  Would like to average 4+

Good luck to me.

First competitive round in for 2022.  Putted quite poorly, and didn't drive it particularly well.  Still ended up +$100 for the day.

I want to post more legal scores for handicap purposes.  The group I play with improves their lies everywhere, gives  short putts and picks up at double bogey.  Since it is a team competition, I feel like I need to do the same to not let down my team.  I have an official HCP, but it is based on just a few rounds per year.  Hopefully, I can get in 2 or 3 legal rounds per month this year.

14 of the following:

My goals for 2022 are:

  • Log 100 rounds in GHIN (posted 90 in 2021) - 50 rounds logged... right on track.
  • Meet or beat my all time low handicap (5.4) - Current handicap 6.1 with downward trend - the last .5 will be the hardest
  • Play 5 different courses, in addition to my home Club - 3 courses plus my home course booked.
  • Walk 2+ rounds per week, rather than ride every time (I tend to be more focused on my game when walking anyway) - walking 1 per week on average... need to improve this.
  • Lose 25 lbs.  - Lost ~15 since Jan 1... 10 to go
  • Find a coach and commit to regular lessons (have never taken lessons) - working with my club professional weekly

2022 Challenges:

  • Shoot even par - close but not yet (have a 9 hole score of 1 under waiting for the next nine to post with it... could be ???)
  • Birdie every hole at home course - still have a little work to do here... there are few challenging holes at my course... requiring a precision hybrid or wood approach to even have a look at birdie...
  • Card an Eagle - spun a wedge approach back about 10 feet that hung on the lip... but didn't fall in... so still waiting for this challenge to be met.

Mid-Year Update above in red.  Better than I thought before going down the list, but still some work to do.

Update on the 2022 Goals

Shoot Under Par - Yes! Low round for the year is 65 on a Par 70 (only plays about 6,000 yds but I will take it)
Birdie Challenge - Birdie all 27 holes at my local muni -- so far I am 15/27 (I seem to always birdie the same holes!) through 18 rounds. Probably can get another 10-12 rounds in before the end of the year so hopefully I can get it.

I didn't have any goals going into 2021, but I dropped my handicap from 6.4 to 5.0, made a lot of upgrades to my bag, and was much more consistent scoring wise.

My 2022 goals:
1. play more
2. practice more/better
3. lower my handicap into the 3's
4. break par on a round of 18 (broken par on 9, but +1 is my best for 18)
5. hole in one

Mid-Season Update:

1. already played more rounds of 18 than all of last year thanks to joining a local cc
2. can count on one hand how many times I've hit the range. I've opted for playing anytime I have the free time
3. handicap is starting to trend in the right direction, took a while to get used to the tougher course
4. broke par for the first time on July 9th! 71 (-1) with a back 9 31 (-5)
5. been pretty close a couple times this year, but still aceless

Goal I added since joining the CC - birdie or eagle every hole on the course. So far I have 11 holes checked off - 10 birdies, 1 eagle

2022 goals:

  1. Fewer strokes lost off the tee, mostly through elimination of penalties.
  2. If I complete goal No. 1, I should be able to drop my handicap to 7 or below.
  3. Enjoy the moment. I'm not playing to earn a tour card or to pay bills. I'm playing for fun and need to remember that sometimes.
  4. (for fun) Exceed my previous long drive recorded on Arccos, which currently stands at a wind-aided 320 yards.

Might as well re-visit these as I'm 3/4 of the way through my season at this point:

  1. Season started rough in this area, but has come around since my last lesson. Still losing about 1.3 strokes to penalties from the tee in 2022, which is not a huge improvement over 2021.
  2. Handicap has dropped into the high 5s thanks to a nice stretch of scores. Made some improvements in short game and putting this year that have helped a lot, but overall I'm seeing progress throughout the bag (well, except maybe with my driver).
  3. Mentally, this year has been tough. I've had a few things get in the way of playing/practicing as much as I'd like to. I'm still really competitive with myself and it's been frustrating at times not seeing the results I feel like I should be seeing. That "sliding scale" of expectations is tough to deal with at times.
  4. Pretty sure this sets a new long drive record for me. This one was not wind-aided but I did manage to catch a downslope that probably added the last 20 yards or so:Rounds_-_Shot_Scope.jpg.b5809284695fc2b9044d730003a3e4ce.jpg

Love these threads.....

Not going back to 2021 thread to copy but mine was fairly simple was play more in 2021 (did not accomplish this unfortunately, July washout and prepping for people to return to work my fall was a wash). I did lower my handicap though! Also had my PB which I matched once which was a massive positive.

For 2022:

-Play a minimum of 30 (18 hole) rounds (I have been averaging around there and didn't go over that this year). I also missed the boys golf weekend in June this year which doesnt help.

-Play with a few more spys like @Kenny Bsaid, also where are you going to be?!

-Lower my handicap again. Currently at a 5.9 and I think I can get to about 4 this year if I can continue with my improvements from this year.

-Focus on my approach game. Its hurting me and I can maintain other facets of my game. This offseason will be crucial to this.

Jumping on the wagon of updates:

-I would say we are maybe 1/2 through the season. We have had great golf into November and I am at 12 total rounds (18 holes). That is also with missing most of June with my selling of the house. I am confident as long as we have good weather and a decent length in season I will hit 30 rounds.

-Have not played with any spies yet outside of Bryan and even that we were in different groups. Alot of rounds with my Dad which is awesome.

-Handicap is hovering. I am currently 5.8, I had a couple rounds that really could have been low and helped me here but...Tis' golf.

-And lastly probably one of the biggest factors of my game, approach...I have seen a consistent improvement. I have lowered my SG to 10.6, also improving my GIR to 40% compared to 31.7% this time last year. Also last year was 43% short compared to 33% this year. I attribute that to clubbing up and a smoother swing.

-Also of note my short game last year was 18.7 SG with an average yardage to the pin of 13 yds compared to this year a SG of 8.8 and 8 yds to the pin

2021:

Start playing golf (check)

Break 100 (check)

Play a round with one ball (check, but entirely because my buddy Paul must be part bloodhound, lol)

2022:

Shoot in the 90s consistently

Break 90

Play a few more new courses

I have a couple of nephews that are about my son's age.  They've expressed some interest in golfing next year.  Hoping to get them out with us.  I'm a pretty extreme introvert and have zero ability for small talk.  Because of this I've never been one for gatherings and such, and therefore have trouble connecting with my wife's family and even my own extended family.  Because of this I'm really looking forward to getting out with my wife's nephews and I hope its something that sticks.  Can't even tell my wife that because she'll get all mushy and weird about it, LOL.  Hoping to add them and a few other people I know to the little group that my son and I play with.

Checking back in at the end of the season.  Managed to hit most of my goals.  I have broken 90 a couple of times and have been pretty consistently in the 90s save for a brutal stretch mid year.

The nephews' interest never went beyond hitting balls into a field, so that never materialized.

Did play a few new courses; PrairieView, Orchard Valley, Timber Pointe, plus Bedford Valley in Michigan.  Already have a few more in mind for next year.
