This is an often forgotten topic, but I think one of the more important aspects of any golf club.

What's your go to Golf Grip and Why?

I'm a 100% sold on the Golf Price MMC +4 Midsized grip.  Various colors are available, but I typically go with the all grey.  I find those grips allow for ease of use whether I'm gripping down to hit chips or 3/4 shots, or on the full shots.  I also find with the weather that if they do get wet or during the cold they provide me with the best grip on the clubs.  I used to be a long time cord player, but replacing those things two to three times a year was such a hassle and frankly I don't think they ever really provided me with the feel that I get out of these new ones.

So with that said, what are you gaming for 2022 and why?  Or do grips really not factor into your game that much.  Interesting topic I'd love to hear everyones input on.

I am looking forward to hearing from others on this subject  Previously I used Winn Dritac X Standard Golf Grips.  I liked the way they felt in my hand and they provided a bit more 'grip' for me.  On thing I did not enjoy about them was having to replace them so often.  Just recently I have installed Lamkin ST+2 Hybrid Calibrate on my driver, fairways and hybrid.  I read some reviews and from those reviews I thought I would give them a try.

I have either Golf Pride Tour Wrap 2Gs or Winn Excels on everything but my putter.

Not wearing a glove, I only feel comfortable with wrap-style synthetic leather grips.

Ironically, since I'm currently playing a hickory shafted putter, that has a real leather wrap grip.

Basically for me it is regular old Tour Wraps since I have so many of them--- Easy to maintain just use water and dry them off--- Also since I use air to install they come on and off easy. Now when I was setting up the irons in my signature I found a heck of a deal on some new blue Tour Wraps locally. So the TMs have blue Tour Wraps on them.

Like the OP, I’m sold on Golf Pride MCC Plus4 midsize grips (grey). And when I regrip I’ll go with the same, maybe I’ll get all crazy and get a different color… 😁

But to be totally honest, I think I'm more married to midsize than a particular grip model (that was a revelation after decades with standard grips). There are quite a few brands/models I think I'd be fine with as long as they were midsized.

  • Titleist TSR2 11° HZRDUS Red CB 50 6.0 w Lamkin UTx Midsize
  • Titleist TSR2 16.5º HZRDUS Red 60 CB 6.0 & TSR2 21º HZRDUS Black 4G 70 6.0 w Lamkin UTx Midsize
  • Mizuno JPX923 HMP 4-GW, T22 54.12WS, T22 58.04DC w Lamkin ST+2 Hybrid Midsize

For 10 years or longer I've used grips from Iomic.  They stay tacky for years, much longer than anything I've ever used, including the original GP New DEcade multi-compound grips, including all cord grips.  My favorite are the X-Evolutions.

seems to be no shortage of colors in the MCCs. 🤣  Kinda crazy how many they make now, adding in "teams" colors too.

I've gone through several different grips in the past few years:

  • Lamkin Crossline
  • Star Sidewinder
  • Lamkin Sonar
  • Lamkin Sonar Tour
  • Various one offs - MCC Align, MCC+4, MCC, Tour Velvet

Currently on the Lamkin Sonar Tours with two additional wraps under the right hand. I think my next set of grips will be the new Pure Combos.

The grip on the Sonar Tours is aggressive but not as aggressive as a cord. Grip is good in all conditions but extremely wet. Only complaint is that I've worn the texture off of them where my "trigger" finger on my right hand lands.

Man, I remember back in the day playing the cords and how early season my hands used to be minced meat from them!  They were absolutely aggressive.  Made me think of that.

I love the Superstroke Pistol grip.  Love that it's just a little bigger than standard but the same pistol shape.  The Flatso seemed just a bit bigger in my hands and hard to handle when I tried.

For me this season it's a transition to the Pure DTX Standard in Players Green, two wraps, on all irons and wedges. Woods still have Tour Velvet 360's but since at the end of the 2022 season I'll be making an investment in that part of the bag to set up the next 5-7 years of my golfing life, they'll stay and get Pure DTX's at that point, perhaps in green or perhaps one of the funky neon colors like orange or pink.

Because I'm also a bit of a stickler about these things, grip on the putter is, going to be once I decide to put it on, a Pure Midsize Pistol in Green as well. A bit bigger than the standard SIK Golf grip I had and the switch to a SuperStroke MidSlim was not the fix I was looking for.

For the past two seasons it's been Lamkin Sonar Wrap with Calibrate.

I always always loved the ribbed grips and this grip hits the mark for me.  I can play them without a glove when it isn't too humid, they're nice and soft for my delicate sensibilities and I like the feel of the wrap.

Great grip and so far, quite durable.

That's a good thing considering how dang expensive grips are right now.  The one golf purchase I make that I cringe every time I make it. I do enjoy the tacky feel though on a grip.  The MCC doesn't necessarily have that, but in an equally difficult way to describe it, they provide a very sure no slip feel to them as well.

two of my playing partners use that exact grip as well.  They enjoy it and it seems to work well for them doing exactly what you're looking for, eliminating the wristy handy swing.  Hopefully that does work for a while.  But you know as well as I do we are all tinkerers so change is inevitable. 🤣

Another thing that just came to mind...

As I'm getting older, only 48 but feel older some days... I find that I do have pain in the hands sometimes.  Early onset arthritis I'm sure.  Has anyone been in the same boat and considered larger grips or have specific grips that you find help with that sort of thing?

I do find the Midsized MCC's help a little bit as they are bigger, but still have some issues at time with that.  Has me thinking about if I shouldn't explore something a bit bigger and or softer to help with that sort of thing.

Just in case anyone had any thought's I was throwing that out for additional conversation.

I switched to Golf Pride Align midsize (from the PING ID8's on my G410's) and really like them.  While test hitting the ZX5's at a Srixon Demo, the fitter noticed the wrap of my fingers on the standard size grip - as in too much.  I actually found that to be quite perceptive and amazing.  He handed me the same shaft with a midsize TV360 grip and it felt great. I also tried the Plus 4 (larger fore-section) but didn't care for the added pressure on my right index finger.

Having made the decision to order the new irons with midsize, I then turned to some forum threads on the subject and that eventually led me to the Aligns.  The fact that they also matched the red/black accents of the ZX5's had absolutely no bearing on the decision whatsoever... simply a mere coincidence 🙂.

Years ago I really favored the GP MCC Plus 4.  Across the board for my whole set.

Last couple years I pulled back to your standard GP Tour Velvets for my irons & GP Zgrip for my Driver, Woods, and Hybrids...

-- Standard size with and extra wrap on the lower portion on the tour velvets and

-- Mid size with same extra wrap on the Z-grips.

I have iomic Sticky 2.3 on my irons. It’s been a couple of months and I like them.   They do feel tackier then tour velvet I’ve always used.  They feel smaller in my hands even though they are standard size.  Real test will be how durable they are.

Haha that is so true. Well so far in 7 days in 2022 no changes. Not even a grip. I like for full swing grips anything with cord for the summer. Right now in South Carolina doesn’t really matter but in hot and humid I need at least a little cord. In addition to Mcc grips I like Lamkin full cord players grips they are a little more grippy than the tour velvet cord. Either way I hope to keep clubs and grips as long as possible, the stealth has me intrigued but no movement yet by me haha

Played with Lamkin Tour full cord for years, then switched over to the GP Tour Wrap (liked the tackiness). Recently I purchased a used Mizuno Type ll driver and it came with an Elite grip. Similar to Iomic in terms of tackiness but firmer.

Liked it so much, I purchased 2 dozen. Unfortunately I had to import them from Japan (couldn’t find a dealer in North America). A bit pricey like Iomic, but I think they were worth it. They come ribbed and non ribbed.

For years I used Golf Pride tour wrap C2 midsize White. They are long lasting, and a little soap and water brings back the tackiness. The white color shows up nice around the greens. That being said, I had a full bag fitting this summer and I switched to the Golf Pride CP2 Wrap. I've really enjoyed using them. I don't wear a glove and I get plenty of grip and the less taper is really nice for gipping down. They'd be perfect if they made them in white.

I use a midsize and just switched all my woods and irons to Lamkin Sonar+...they are amazing!  My 2021 Ping putter came with Ping's Lamkin Sink-Fit Pistol, also amazing. I've used Golf Pride, Winn, and Superstroke, but these new Lamkin grips are the best.

I have used Pure grips the past 6-8 years. The exceptions are when I buy new clubs as I use that to see if there is a reason to change. So far, the Pure grips remain my choice.
