I've flown Delta with my clubs for 30 years, including to Maui... never had an issue. Surely, he could afford to fly with others on a charter or ship the clubs. He can afford it; the purse is $8.2M and only 36 players (and don't call me Shirley). TR1PTIK
Two things could have likely prevented this: 1) a hardshell case & 2) removing the heads and storing them in his golf bag or other luggage. They all seem to be wearing a NetJets logo somewhere....I thought that was a private jet leasing service. I have not needed to look into that so maybe I've been wrong all these years about what it really is?! If I was a pro I'd treat my clubs like the crown jewels and if I flew commercial i'd buy a seat for them. Even as a hack I have lead tape on most everything and custom sole grinds on my wedges. chisag
... As others have said removing heads is a good idea. Hovland uses the same Club Glove bag I use but did not have a Stiff Arm in it? A must for anyone that travels by air that hasn't seen airline employees literally pick up a bag and toss it like they are in an olympics discus event. https://www.clubglove.com/viewproduct/stiff-arm/ GaDawg, Nolan220, PMookie and 6 others 8 1 Quote Driver: Qi10 10.5* ... Tom the Golf Nut
I'm trying to be sympathetic but I can't. If you travel by the airlines to play golf you should know to always remove adjustable heads on clubs. Put the head in the head cover and put the headcover in a pocket on the golf bag. Then put the shaft in the club area with the grip up. Then on top of that always use a stiff arm or equal. Move your putter to the middle area next to the stiff arm. Take your golf towel and wrap in and out of you irons. Put your rain cover on the bag. Place this all into your travel bag and done. Now they even have a chip you can put in the bag that allows you to use your phone to track it. I've had hard cases broken twice by Delta. But my clubs were fine due to the above packing. I have now used a Club Glove for the past three years with no problem. Hard cases although preferred by the airlines have problems in the conveyor systems and it plain sucks with rental cars unless you have a Suburban or a mini van. I have a friend that didn't take the head off the driver even though I suggested he do so. He said not a problem I have a stiff arm Actually some one else's version). You know what happened, twice lucky third time no so much. We had to go get a new shaft, grip and adapter after getting to our condo. Luckily we got in early enough to get to a place before they closed. We had early tee times the following morning. You all know how bad I wanted to say "I warned you that this might happen".
