Sunmountain Sync or C130S Stand Bag

So im looking to get a bag with more storage this year. I have been using the Sunmountain 4.5 Stand for a few years and love it. I dont carry my clubs anymore and never seem to have enough storage. I walk with a Bag Boy Nitron push cart 50% of the time and ride the other. Ive decided to get either the Sunmountain Sync or the C130S stand bag. Both bags have a big pocket where stand bags have the carry “back pad”, while maintaining the bag top orientation of a stand bag, preventing club heads from rubbing on shafts etc. There are virtually no reviews of these bags specifically. Do any of you have any insight or feedback to help me make up my mind?

The c130s is the bag I’ve had my eyes on as well. The other that has caught my eye is the Maxfli honors stand bag. I’m waiting to see them in person to make my decision, but the Maxfli is $70 cheaper so unless there’s a major difference that’s probably what I’m going with. Unfortunately I have to wait 6 months before I get the chance to see them in person to decide. In ypur case I’d go with the c130.

SWMBO has a C130 and she likes it a lot.  I'm not sure if it's an 'S' version or not. Lots of pockets for lots o' stuff, a sleeve to slip the cart strap through, balanced so it stands up easily.

I know it holds lots of stuff because of how heavy it is when i hoss it out of the car and onto the cart.  I know she has rain gear & ball retriever in the side pocket along with the hood.  She is a ball hawker and perpetually has about 2 dozen in there that need to be cleaned out, that is where most of the weight comes from.  Although I found two full gatorade bottles she forgot were in there too.

I have the C130 not the S though. It is a great bag it will hold almost anything and everything you need for the course and I am going into my 3rd season with it and no problems so durability is there. All that said there are a couple of cons. 1) it gets heavy as @Shapotomoussaid. But that really has to do with what you stuff in there. 2) it struggles to stand up even on a flat surface, yes it will stay there but I have taken a club out and shifted the balance and it falls over, I have had a gentle breeze blow it over, IMO it just needs a more solid base (I have found this to be the case with almost any cart bag however).

I have the 2020 Sync model. I push cart the majority of my rounds and it has about 100 rounds on it now. So far it has held up well. It fits well on my CaddyTek cart. I like that it is very lightweight, definitely lighter than the C130 model. The insulated pocket is big enough to hold a 32oz Gatorade Zero and keep it cold for the majority of my morning rounds.

The C130 definitely has more storage. There really isn't all that much room in the side pockets on the Sync. The ball pocket is quite large, however.

Big enough for rain gear right?

I had to think about what I had in it:

Side pockets hold rain jacket, extra box of balls and rain hood for the bag. I am able to keep two spare gloves (rain set + extra leather), first aid kit, and plenty of balls and tees. Rangefinder pocket is a nice plus, I pull my rangefinder out and put in my push cart during rounds, so my wallet and keys go in the rangefinder pouch during rounds. Felt lined valuables pocket that I don't really use.

I've been very happy with the bag overall.

So i ended up buying a Sun Mountain C130S Stand bag today. I was using a 4.5LS carry/stand bag and loved it. Just wanted more storage in exchange for the “carry” side of bag. I ride or use a push cart, never carry anymore so dont have a need for a carry bag. The C130S is extremely similar to the 4.5 but sort of a hybrid bag. I started messing with it tonight. Overall im pretty happy with it. The clubs are oriented correctly to ride on a push cart since the bag has a stand. Its not significantly heavier (1.5#) in my opinion. Pretty standard pocket set up. It fits well on my bagboy nitron. And i love that its a cart bag with a stand, hate when a bag tips over. There are 2 things about it that currently bug me. Due to how the stand system is designed, the 3 club wells over that are not much shorter than the ones above that. So my wedges are same height as my 7i, 8i and 9i and will likely fight each other a little. This is not the same with the other wells. The only other thing is that the top is on the narrow side and makes things feel a little cluttered. We will see how it goes in 2.5 months when the snow melts and there is golf to be played. Hopefully ill remember to get some pics up then and a better write up.

@Tyler86 Just wondering where you found the C130s?  I haven't had any luck locating one to date.  On the C130s does the stand mechanism interfere with the push cart?  The pics I found doesn't  really show the mechanism so can't see if it is the same as the SM 4.5LS bag

I accidentally fat fingered and reported this post. @GolfSpy_APHSorry!! Honest mistake!!! PGA Superstore. Its basically the same mechanism as the 4.5LS.

If you're using a pushcart (i do) then I definitely think the shaping of the sync is the way to go.  I do wish it had legs for the range but it's a solid bag with lots of storage and even when I had a rip, SunMountain refunded the bag pretty easily so I could get a replacement.  No issues with the replacement.

The dividers are pretty well setup.  My main critique is that I'd make the middle wells just a tad narrower as the top corners are pretty small for getting those two clubs in and out.

My other critique is that the bottom of the plastic ring around the putter well is kind of sharp edge instead of rounded/tapered underneath to keep the putter grip from catching on it as you pull it out.

Still, it's a solid bag and I like it.

Sorry that its taken this long to update this. Its been an awful spring in Minnesota this year for golf, weather wise. I have about 15 rounds in with this bag at this point. Overall, Im happy with it. I love that its a cart bag with stands on it. I also love that the dividers are oriented opposite of most cart bags so when its on a push cart, the heads dont get tangled and there is no shaft bite. The full length individual dividers work great, as Sun Mountains do. I love that i can take the shoulder strap off the bag completely. There is ample storage as well. I have a full set of rain gear, 20 balls, 200 tees, 3 large golf towels, finger tape, misc snacks, range finder, 5 count cigar humidor etc in it at all times and it never seems cluttered. Winter hat and gloves fit easy when needed. Fits on the BagBoy Nitron like a glove!!!! The stand system works great. I have 2 gripes with this bag. The cooler pocket could be bigger. I can fit a small gatorade, water bottle and protein shake in it and thats it. Its barely big enough to work. 2” more, each dimension would be HUGE. The top of bag is also a little narrow and if you have a full 14 club bag, its a little more cluttered than id like. Its not bad, but could also be bigger. Overall, 8/10.

I have had the sync for about 4-5 years now. It works great with the push cart or on a riding cart. The only issue I’ve had is that the zipper on the range finder pocket broke recently. Otherwise it has been a great bag.

I got the C130s for my birthday. I love it with a few exceptions:

  1. The insulated cooler pocket doesn't work that well. The ice melts and drains too fast.
  2. When strapping into a riding cart, the strap pass-through slots don't line up correctly, and if you pull it really tight, it constricts the putter slot.
  3. I wish the angle of the club slots was different so that the woods and long irons were on the legs side.

I have both these bags, 2021 models. They are almost identical in storage size and the various pockets except the biggest difference is the compartment for the range finder. On the Sync its up top and can lift up so you can secure your push cart straps under it or lift it to string the gas/electric cart straps. I use a Clicgear 8.0 and the top strap fits snuggly under the lift up compartment. On the C130 Stand Bag the range finder compartment is lower, above the large bottom compartment where I put my golf balls. I use the Sync when I'm walking with my Clicgear 8.0, the clubs sit nicely in the fully lined slots and has easy access when pulling a club or putting them back. My only knock on the Sync is the single strap mounted on the rear of the bag. It's a bit uncomfortable to carry and weight distribution on the bag is a bit off. When walking with my cart it's not an issue as I take the bag out of my SUV and mount it to the Clicgear but when riding it was a chore to carry the bag to the starters booth and across the parking lot. When I ride I definitely prefer the C130 just for the comfort and ease of carrying the bag across the parking lot and to the riding cart. It may seem like a hassle switching bags when I walk and ride but to me it's worth it. Because both bags are almost identical it makes changing bags very easy, I put everything in the same locations for either bags so I always know where everything is (raingear, spare gloves, towels, etc).  One note on the Sync, the top mounting of the carry strap is secured with rivets and some type of plastic. The plastic sort of stretched out and tore a little because of the way it's secured so I had to take the bag to a shoe repair shop and have it stitched to better secure the plastic and to sew up the tear. It was worth doing as the plastic doesn't stretch anymore and won't tear when carrying the Sync using the strap.

I love both my Sun Mountain bags and I'd buy another Sync and C130 Stand Bag when either needs replacement. I hope this was helpful

I use the Nitron cart which I love & the 2020 Sun Mountain Sync Bag.  The Sync has less storage than C-130-s but is lighter & fits better on the push cart. no problem on a ride cart & it has that ability to lift up the velcro'd  GPS pocket for secure straps.

The S (stand) is really only for taking off a riding cart for use on the range as I see it.  I really like how the woods in the Sync Bag are configured in the center of the bag & the irons go down the left & right individual 14 way slots. The Sync has ample storage.  My only potential negative on the Sync is the top left & right slots can be a tad difficult to get a club in & out as club can snag.  Probably can't go wrong with either but the club configuration, fit on the Nitron & weight was the deciding factor for me.  Impossible to find the "perfect bag" but Sync is pretty close.

I always wanted a C-130 cart bag and a couple years ago finally got one.  I loved it.  But then all the threads at the bottom of the full length dividers came out letting the clubs go past the bottom and snarl all up like a bag without dividers.  Then the zippers started going to hell.  I've had Ogio, Ping, Titleist and other bags that this same stuff happens to and now have a Callaway Org 14 bag.  So far so good.

What's In the Bag

Callaway Rogue ST Max 10.5° driver w/stiff Xcaliber Avalon 5 shaft
Tour Edge Exotics EXS 220 3-wood w/stiff Xcaliber Mystic 5 shaft
Tour Edge Exotics EXS 220 3-hybrid w/stiff Xcaliber RT shafts shaft
Malby KE4 Max irons with reg Xcaliber RT shafts
Callaway Jaws full toe 60° wedge with Project X Catalyst 80 wedge graphite shaft
Odyssey White Hot OG #7 CH stroke lab putter
Callaway Org 14 bag

I'm not over the hill.  I'm on the back nine.

I bought a Sync earlier this year because I'm playing with my kids (9 and 11 years old) a lot and wanted extra storage to haul extra stuff for them too.  It's big, but not tour bag big.  We go through a lot of balls now (thank God for Kirkland balls), but still that ball pocket is excessively huge.  It would be nice to trade off some of that space for more cooler pocket size.  It's hard to get 3 drink bottles in there.  I agree with the comment about the sharp bottom edge of the putter pocket.  The bottom of my putter grip is also sharp edge and, even if I'm careful, it always catches on the frame when I pull out my putter.  I use Golf Pride CPX mid-size grips and they still fit into the small-ish corner club pockets.  I use the velour lined valuables pocket for my phone.  It's perfect for that.  I wish there was a handle at the bottom of the front of the bag.  It would help with loading it onto my cart or into the trunk of my car.  Also, as others have mentioned, the strap slots do not line up with the straps on the back of a golf cart.  They are perfect for my push cart, which I use 95% of the time anyway.  Overall, I'm happy with the bag and have no regrets buying it.  I wish I could say the same about the Ping Hoofer I bought recently.

Regarding the Callaway Org 14 - great looking bag, lots of large pockets.  But club dividers around putter well separated from bag top in less than 6 months.  In looking at reviews, that's a common issue.  I sent back to Callaway, I assume they will ship replacement.   One other issue with Org 14 - its too short for Sun Mountain cart (Pathfinder 4).  The top cart straps slide up across putter well unless you hike bag up - I've been running it 3" above the bottom bracket - because the bag is wide it was also rubbing on front wheels of my 4-wheeler.  I'm likely going to replace it with a Sync.

I'm on my second C130 cart bag.  The first blew out a side zipper after maybe 3 years of constant use (I play 3 times a week).  That pocket was were I kept my valuables, so I searched for a new one.  Gave the old one to a friend 2 years ago, and he is still using it.

My new one is starting a little hole in one of the two large side compartments, but it's otherwise in good shape.  Like I said, this goes in and out of the car trunk and onto the cart some 12-15 times a month.

It's a hefty bag, so I don't take it on travel trips as I worry it will simple weigh too much.  I can hold anything tho.

I have a C130 great bag and well worth the money CS is located in Missoula MT and they will take good care of you. And I like that

I had a C130 and it was black with orange beading, it started to fade, so I called them asking what they could do? Next thing I know I have a new bag and sent the other back

I am not sure if they are made in Missoula but the quality is well worth the $70

I Play in SW WA and in the PDX area

I like to walk, I have a Clicgear with all the accoutrements and I am considering getting a V2.

@Tyler86 Just wondering where you found the C130s?  I haven't had any luck locating one to date.  On the C130s does the stand mechanism interfere with the push cart?  The pics I found doesn't  really show the mechanism so can't see if it is the same as the SM 4.5LS bag

It does not fit too great on my clicgear 3.5 due to the stand foot mechanism. It works well enough where it doesnt like fall off but its not the most secure fit.

My other grip is that its supposed to be a C130 with a stand yet there are features left out of the "S". Some being the additional utility loops and a magnetic closing pockets. But all in all I am pretty happy with the C130S considering I got a good deal on it
