Mtbryant01
I got a group of 12 driving up from Birmingham, AL to Big Cedar Lodge in a couple months to play all the courses. We plan on stopping in Memphis to break up the drive and play a round. Anybody got some course recommendations to play? Tom the Golf Nut
If you're a smooth talker you can try TPC Southwind. I got on right at the start of Covid. It's private but sometimes you can get on (pricey too). For public try Quail Ridge or Miramichi. Justin Timberlake had something to do with getting Miramichi built or something like that. Good condition and fast greens. Very reasonable price for 18 with a cart. There are a couple courses just South of Memphis, in Tunica, Mississippi, that are pretty good. I’ve played Tunica National a few times and it’s challenging and fun. Better be ready for playing in the wind there! Look around Tunica as it’s a resort area with casinos, so some nice places to play. A bunch of us were headed up to Fairfield Bay in Arkansas for golf. I had a "business meeting" in Memphis along the way. I played TPC Southwind with customers and they played Miramichi. They want to go back so it sounded like they enjoyed the course. But they were more interested in hearing about TPC. TPC Southwind had full PXG sets of clubs for rentals (for my customers). Now that was a nice course. Then we played Indian Hills and Mountain Ranch in. Fairfield Bay. A few years earlier I played Tannenbaum in the same area for a power plants golf outing. RoverRick
Several of us forum members met at Miramichi probably 5-6 years ago. It was great. They have a par 3 course and an 18 hole course. We talk about going back there but haven’t yet. The par 3 course was the site of my worst score on any par 3. it all started by me aiming at the wrong green and not realizing it until after I hit. Then an impossible pitch to the right hole that buried in the downslope of the bunker and sculling it into the other lip, and then a couple more bad shots followed by a 3 putt. I think it was a 13 on a par 3. It was a train wreck and is the first thing I think of about that course. Mainly because I could have re-teed the ball, three times I could have taken unplayables. There was no reason I had more than a triple or even that if I would have stopped long enough to think. But, NO!, I had to go for the hero shot, and it spilled over on to the next hole, I made a brain dead double there, I finally got it together and played pretty well the rest of the time. But we had a great time and at the time the course was great. Mtbryant01
Thanks guys for the responses. I went ahead and booked a round for our group at Mirimichi. $38 for a round seems like a steal looking at the course online unless its course management has gone downhill the past couple years. Either way, should be a great opener on our way to Big Cedar Lodge. vandyland
On this topic, has the King-Collins re-design of Overton Park finished yet? Love Sweetens (this is definitely not Sweetens but I am on board with K-C until proven otherwise) and they have 1/2 par holes which I have never seen before! If you make a 3 on #4 or #6 is that a birdie? A bird(ie)? A bird? Mtbryant01 1 Quote STZ 230 9.5* PinHawk SLF 16* STZ 230 Hybrid 21.25* MALTBY TS1-IM 5-GW Equalizer II 54* Glide 4.0 (S) 58* L.A.B. Too late for @Mtbryant01 Yeah, I’m excited to at least support K-C and go play over the summer at some point. The par 3.5 is an interesting/unique way to make it fun/hard/frustrating. Make a 3, you get a birdie, make a 4, it’s a bogey. I have seen other screenshots though where hole 4 and 6 say par 4. vandyland 1 Quote Cobra Connect 5 participant G410 Plus, w/ X stiff 75 g Project X Evenflow Black shaft driver / Radspeed w/ Smoke RDX Blue 70S shaft Big Tour 3 wood/ 5 wood w/ Fujikura X F3 60S shaft 4 Hybrid w/ Project X Catalyst 80S shaft Copper MIM Tour Irons w/ KBS $ Taper Balck 120S shaft Snakebite 50, 54, and 58 wedges w/ KBS Hi-Rev 2.0 125S shaft Newport 2.5 putter MTB X golf balls RH, Alabama
