Ping G425 LST Driver Shaft Recommendations?

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Just moved into a G425 LST Driver (10.5) with a Stiff (65) Tensei Orange Shaft on it.

I really like it - the dispersion is tight & the flight is good but it's just spinning a little too much on some shots. It's not major & I'd be happy to keep it but I'm just wondering if anyone can recommend a shaft that might help me eek out a few more yards?

I swing it about 107/108mph quite comfortably but could crank that up a touch. I also tried the X-Flex during fitting but interestingly, it was spinning high too.

Any thoughts? Something similar to the Tensei Orange would be ideal.

Thanks

It might not be shaft related as the shaft might not help reduce spin that much.

more details might help:  what is your carry distance?  When do you get too much spin as you indicated it doesn’t always happen?  When is ball strike when you get the high spin.   What are your spin numbers, spin deviation, AoA, and launch condition values from a launch monitor?

I would echo this the shaft likely won't change spin much at all. A slight change in ball, club loft, AoA, strike location, and more that cnosil mentions would be the places I would start, if your spin is indeed too high.

When you see the extra spin where on the face is contact? This will have more influence than a shaft. If it was shaft you would see it more frequently.

Also without any launch monitor numbers of your good shots compared to the spinny ones it’s hard to say what’s happening

To add to some of the other questions have you adjusted any of the weights or left it standard?

As @RickyBobby_PR pointed out above check where you are hitting on the face. If it’s only happening on some shots then something is different with those shots.

You could also go down in loft as @jlukes mentioned but I’m guessing you would be back saying you spin it too little on some shots.

Honestly, a fitting for the exact shaft would be best. But if you've been able to see spin numbers than you can kinda self diagnose.

One idea is to add lead tape to the bottom leading edge to bring the weight forwward

I'd look at strike location on the spinny shots and see what can be done about that.  A different shaft may help with strike location consistency and also dynamic loft but you'd have to go to a good fitter and look at the data for that.

The shaft doesn’t have as much influence as people think or want to believe. Unless the shaft weight and/or profile is a complexity bad fit it’s not the shaft that’s causing the issues. If a person is seeing to high spin it’s going be contact location being too low or it’s it’s swing issue that comes across the ball.

My experience is the more left my swing path, the higher the spin. Pre lessons I was at -5-7(righty) and my spin was high: 3500+
after lessons my swing is more neutral +.5 - +2 and my spin is never above 2900. Same driver setup for both: g410 LST with a Mitsubishi Tensei tx 60 gram. The spin was all about how I was delivering the club.
