Basically the theory is that all shafts have a hard spine and that if you orient the spine correctly when gluing the shaft you can get more consistent delivery of the club at impact.   The trademarked name is Puring.   Spine and Flo is the generic name for the processes.

Just dropped the venerable Titleist 975F 20.5 degree back into the bag - ousting a 2021 Mizuno CLK 3H.

The old 975 is just money at the moment.

Now, having played with the 7 wood for several rounds, I must say that I love the club.  Works really well out of the rough and on downhill lies.  Really love hitting it and I already have a lot of confidence in it.

I recently got more honest about what I needed in my bag vs what I thought I wanted.  Over the last couple months, I have replaced my 4 iron with a 4 hybrid.  For me that's about a 190-195yrd carry.  My 3 wood carry is about 220-225 off the tee.  I'd love to be able to hit it well off the deck, but the reality is that it just doesn't work most of the time.  While I really like my 4 hybrid, it has a pretty long roll out.  I tried a driving iron, but that was worse for roll, and harder to hit.  Eventually after me trying to make something work, my fitter had me try a 7 wood.  Magic!  It carries around 200-205 for me, but the landing angle is almost what my 7 iron is, and it's way way easier to hit off the deck than my 3 wood.  I've only had it in the bag for a couple of rounds so far, but it is fast becoming a go to club.

7 Wood is the ticket for many of us!  I have the Cleveland Launcher XL 7 Wood and occasionally sleep with it...

I think it's worth it to at least try in a fitting.  I hit a 3H and 7W about the same carry, but the 7w is a much steeper landing angle.  I feel like I am much more confident stopping the ball on the green with it.

ok, ok, ok.....   no w i need to find a bargain or used 7W--I have fallen out of love with the 3H and the 4 iron is inconsistent from the fairway.   after reading this....  well i guess I know what I need to do and the question is who gives up their spot....

Yep....started using a Callaway Heavenwood about 5-6 years ago.  The only reason that I replaced it was because I found the Ping G410 7 wood.....either one of them are money.  Then....I actually got flat out crazy and experimented with a Ping G425 9 wood (24 degrees).  That club is money as well.  The only reason that it is not in my gamer bag is because I discovered the Sub 70 699 Pro Utility 4 iron.  I had it bent to 24 degrees and it gives me a few more options.....plus I consistently hit it well...which has not been the case for long irons.  But...if I had not found that Sub 70 Utility iron.....the ping 9 wood would definitely be in the bag beside the 7 wood.

 

Golf is a lot more fun when I don't stress, standing over the ball.  The 7 and 9 woods removed that stress.

I have a Cobra 7 wood that is a joy to use.  It gets great height and comes down like a teardrop.  Holds greens great and easy to hit.

Added a Makser 7 wood and a 9 wood to my Makser 3 and 5 woods years ago, but these Makser 3, 5, 7, and 9 woods were replaced with Taylormade 3, 4, 5, and 6 hybrids because these hybrids were consistently straighter.

II prefer a wood design vs a hybird.  In my opinion the hybird is are more of a iron swing(divot) while that is different from that of a wood.  I’m a sweeper, so a fairway wood is better suited to my swing.  But, I’m not a teaching pro, only offering my opinion, as to what works for me.

I love my 7 wood. I can hit 190 or choke down and hit 170. Game changer for me!!

As I see it, try it out and see how it feels for you. Even if a few yards are lost but you increase your consistency thus confidence, you are ahead of the game.

I'm thinking of selling mine. It's a great club, Cobra F6.. I love my three iron too much to pull it out of the bag so it just sits most of the time. If you're interested shoot me a message and I'll figure out what it's worth to me as well as send you some pictures.

I have a PXG 7 wood 0211 and I love it.  I'm 71 years old and I can hit it 170-175.  It's very easy to hit.

Driver - PXG 0211

3,5,7 Woods PXG 0211

Irons Cobra F-Max combo set, 6,5,4 are hybrids

Cobra F-Max GW & PW

C3i SW 59 degrees

Also, in case you don't know it, PXG gives discounts to Veterans, Active Duty and Police and Firemen.

I picked up a Callaway Rogue 7 wood to replace a 21 degree hybrid.  Much better carry distance and slightly better total distance (220 vs 215).  Really easy to get airborne.  This club is great out of the rough!

Does appear to be closed but is actually square to the target line.  I have to trust the line and play the ball toward the middle of my stance.

 I also added a 5 wood that is easy to hit off of the fairway but only about 10 yards longer than the 7 wood.

I know I'm a little late to the party on this but the Ping G and G30 fairways are also really easy to hit. They can be had at a good price in the used market, yet hold their value well. So, if you don't like them, you can often sell them again for pretty much exactly what you paid for them.

Thanks---I just picked up a HeavenWood which I saw available locally.  It may be a better fit for me vs a 7W considering what I would like to accomplish with it.  I will give it a try soon.  thanks again

I now understand....   wow the heavenwood is just a treat.   I can't compare to a 7W because I never had one in my hands, but the heavenwood is just a pleasure to swing--smooth and workable.   I was able to do a lot with it --high and long and effortless.  I know this was at the range and it may not be so easy "when it counts", but I can see a lot of places and cases where this can be "the answer" off the tee on some holes or a long shot from the fairway.

I just went to Roger Dunn to swing some 7 woods, but they didn’t have many available for hitting. But they had a Halo, and that was such an easy club to hit, but it just went a little too far for what I was looking for. I think an epic max 7 wood will be the deal. They did have a “heavenwood “ and that was longer like the Halo. There was a nice ping 425 9 wood, but that was just a little short…

Updated my bag with PXG 0211 5 & 7 woods, dropped my 3 W and 9 W.  Am very happy with results as I only used my 3W a couple times per round. The PXG’s  are awesome.

So something I am noticing, it is hard to come back for stock 80g class shafts for 7 woods. You can direct order from callaway for one but PXG you cant unless you pay an upcharge.

I'm considering replacing my #4 Hybrid with a 7 wood. I had a Warbird Heavenwood and Divine Nine back in the 90's and loved them. Why I traded them is beyond me!

I have been carrying a Titleist 7 wood, 915, after getting fitted by Titleist during a 3 wood fitting. I had not found a Hybird that I could hit until the 7 wood. Still in my bag today, not leaving anytime soon.

Note, my biggest issue in this is not too many companies make 7 woods in left-handed clubs.  So, we will see if this works out.  I usually end up with some shop credit over the course of the year as a result of senior events at my club, so the cost likely won't be too much if I do this later in the year.  Last year, I think I got about $200 or so for the cost of $35 joining the senior group - we have over 80 members of the senior group, but in a given week, generally only about 30 members play.  So, the guys who play these events regularly tend to come out ahead (the events are based on net scores and mostly as part of a team).

I have a LH Tour Edge 7 wood that I picked up USED few years ago.  Great club!
