Mizuno irons

Recommended Posts

I’m a 16-index…I currently hit JPX 900 hot metals irons w/ graphite shafts. I had them fitted perfectly. And, I absolutely love ‘em. To put things in perspective, I hit my 7-iron 150-155yards.

The pro that sold and fit me continues to nag me to step up to the JPX 922’s…says yes, they are that much better. I’ve swung them. They are indeed nice. However, are they that much better? I don’t know. For the money, I don’t think so.

But, I’d love some impartial opinions…will I really see “that much better” results?

If you don’t feel that your current iron set is lacking anything l, than you really won’t have much to gain. Irons are about precision and consistency, not distance.

That being said the JPX 921s Hot Metals are more refined than the 900 HMs.

I agree with jlukes.  If you are getting the results you want from your current irons, I can see no reason to change.

if the pro that fits you thinks they are that much better; I don't think they are,  have him put some skin in the game.  Ask him how many strokes your game will improve if you get those new irons and that he will refund your money if they don't.   🤣

I’ll bite on this one only to say that I love the 921s hot metal edition. For me they are great. Hard to justify though if you have no gripe with your current irons

If you’re happy with your 900HM’s, you shouldn’t change. There’s no way you’ll see an appreciable difference in scoring, maybe a couple strokes, more likely no change.

As noted above, irons are much less about distance, more about “precision and consistency.” I am playing JPX900F’s and love mine. I hit the 919F and then the 921F when they came out, and there was no significant difference. So unless the 225’s or the 923F’s change my mind, I’m holding on to my 900F’s.

Tough to make the case for a new iron set based on your feelings on your current.  That being said, I bet you would find a tad more forgiveness and feel, but unlikely it would mean much in the grand scheme of things.

However, golfers always do love new shiny things in their bag, so I'm not sure what type of weight that holds for you versus the cost.

the only way to know is to hit them and see the numbers and hopefully get a course demo too. i struggle with doing great with my new irons for a month or two and then struggling. I keep reverting back to my 20 year old Hawk eye tungstens and the only thing i can come up with is the sole/turf interaction. I hit those old clubs the same distance as my Loft Jacked PXG 0311 gen 4.
