The Tour X is comparable compression to the XV but the XV is lower-spinning. If judging solely on spin, neither of the Maxfli balls are that similar to the XV, but the regular Tour is reasonably comparable to the standard Z-Star.

So I'd say that neither are going to be like the XV for a few reasons. The Tour X is probably going to be the closest BUT it's still going to spin a bit more. I'd say if you have an extra high spinning drive, you might have to re fit your driver to match the ball, I.e. lower spinning shaft, head, etc and that might not be optimal for a ball switch. My driver spin is very low so even the tour X isn't perfect for me and I get much better distance with the Tour because it brings my spin up to the low 2000's. IMO the Tour X feels better than the XV though and plays about the same around the green and iron shots. The regular Tour also plays about the same.

Overall you might be giving up some distance due to higher spin but might find a trade off with better post-drive results

Ya of lately the XV has given me some bomber drives and I get plenty of spin off my irons. I did game prov1 for a little bit and had decent success so maybe the Tours would be the ticket. Might just try a box and if I like them stock up. Still have 2.5 dozen of the xv left

I used to play the XV's and got really good #'s but it felt a bit hard to me. It's a great ball for sure! Tours are worth a shot. The Maxfli Tour believer conversion success is pretty high so you might just end up joining the fold.

See Tom's answer above.  However, if you have deep pockets, the proper thought process is that closer to the hole is always better....so go for it!

... Be careful what you wish for:

"The longest drive in PGA Tour history, technically, is a 787-yard drive hit in the 1992 Texas Open by Carl Cooper. Cooper's tee shot on the par-4, 456-yard third hole hit a downward-sloping concrete cart path way right of the fairway and took off, ultimately going 787 yards and stopping behind the 12th green at Oak Hills Country Club. Cooper took another three shots to get back to the green, then two-putted for a double bogey."

Not the best day to give the Maxfli Tour a try. Temperatures were quite a bit cooler, wind was from the North instead of the usual South, and we got light rain the last 6 holes or so. My perception is that it is OK off the driver for me, but seemed short off the irons. Hopefully, we still have some better days ahead to get a better feel for the ball.

I used to play with a friend (sadly, he passed away a decade ago) who would regularly play the cart path on certain par-5 holes where it was difficult to get into much trouble with a sideways bounce off the path.  The best shot that I ever saw him hit like that was on a seriously long par-5 in far northern NJ, where he put the ball next to a greenside bunker (on the hole we we were playing), and had a short pitch shot onto the green of that 550+ yard hole.

The course my college team played at had a hole like this. Par 5 with a dogleg and a concrete drainage ditch at about 290 off the tee. I could bounce it into that ditch for an extra 15 yards or so, but one of my teammates could carry his 5-wood about 280, stock, so he would muscle it up and periodically (with surprising regularity!) hit it on the fly and have a flip wedge/pitch into the green. We always knew after a qualifying round whether or not he hit the ditch as he basically never made birdie. 3? Nice tee shot. 5? Missed the ditch this time, huh?

Finally played my way through the last dozen Snell's and picked up a box of each Maxfli model to start testing. Curious to see if there's any discernable difference in trajectory between the two and whether or not I notice the difference in spin. I expect it will mostly just come down to feel. Regardless, it will be nice to make a pitstop when running errands to restock rather than waiting for a shipment or trying to time a purchase with some sort of free shipping deal.

I'm still loving the Tour, it does everything I look for in a ball. The most eye opening thing is how well it sticks to the green on approach shots. I'm not traditionally a higher spin player and with the MaxFli's I've seen several shots end up close to the pitch mark.

I think my biggest problem with the ball is convincing my buddies they should try them. I think MaxFli and quality don't go together in the minds of golfers who don't really dig in to the equipment side of the game. I've about talked myself blue in the face trying to convince some of the guys at work they should give them a try. I think one guy might pick up some, otherwise I might have to let them try a couple of mine to convince them that this is a great ball.

I get the same sideways looks from my playing partners, one of them offers me all the non-titleist balls he finds because he thinks if I play Maxfli, I will play anything.  Haha.  Nope... I choose to play the Maxfli Tour, thank you.

I expect I'll get similar reactions. Just mentioning that I wanted to try Maxfli, my buddy goes, "Have you ever heard of Vice?" lol

I was playing with @Tom the Golf Nut and we found one of the Vice Pro Soft balls and we both gave it a try. I wasn't too impressed, felt bad off driver and irons.

Well, I guess it’s my turn in the popcorn popper. I went to galaxygolf.com, and bought 4 doz. “Tour” balls for $112 delivered to my door. They arrived in two days!

let me begin with What a great ball!!!!! I’m kind of a PV1 snob, play almost every weekday, and I really couldn’t tell any difference. It’s long, and spins well. It’s definately a no brainer, just buy some. I got the tour, and not the X.

And, another convert!

Finally put a Maxfli ball in play! Wasn't really up for testing today as I was playing with a buddy, but I finally lost my last ProV1 and reached into my bag for the first sleeve I could grab... Tour X. Gotta say, I noticed a difference in feel which shouldn't be too surprising coming from the ProV1 but even compared to the Snell MTB-X I had been gaming for some time I think it felt a bit "clicky". Anway, it performed great for the few holes I played with it, and I can't wait for the chance to dive into a proper test!

I gave out a sleeve of my tour before I called it quits in my round yesterday and the guy was surprised that I would do that but he liked what he saw when I was hitting it so if I could do anything good in my last round of the year it is give out some of these to covert more

Wait, so I shouldn’t use the cart path in an attempt to inflate my driving distance stats?!?!?! 😬

I agree.  I have hit a couple of drives about 300 yards because I hit a specific cart path on my home course.  Almost could not find the ball either time.  Our rough is high and I almost did not look that far forward - could not see the drive hit the cart path from the tee.

Well I’ve got about 5 rounds in with the Maxfli Tour now, and still can only relate how impressed I am. It does everything well. Everything…. And at the price at basically $2 a ball, for a $5 ball, what’s not to love

Sluggo, wondering what your experience is on the feel of the Maxfli Tour compared to the ProV1? I got a test sleeve from a fitter and used them in my round yesterday. I have never played a ProV1 on the account that I still lose too many balls, but is is by far the best feeling golf ball I've ever used. I just can't justify putting them in play when I lose a few (or sometimes more depending on the day) golf balls per round. I know the Maxfli is super popular among MGS users. TIA!

I found them to be maybe a hair softer? But that might be my imagination. What’s good is they spin very well, and they are long, maybe longer than pv1, but, these are non-quantified results. But, I sure wouldn’t spend money on pv’s when you can get these for less than half. And of blindfolded, I wouldn’t be able to tell the difference. Altho if blindfolded, I wouldn’t be able to hit the ball anyways…
