Is there a way a PX flighted shaft could fly a little lower?

Hey everyone,

I am using a Px 5.5 flighted shaft on my X-20 tour irons, I thought it would be cool to have a higher ball flight but am now kinda regretting it. So I just wanna if we could lower down the "Flight" of the ball?

Would "hard stepping" it help?

Hard stepping your shafts will make them about 1/2 a flex stiffer, but I don't think that you will notice a much lower ball flight. sorry.

First, it IS cool to have a higher ball flight. Especially with the long irons. Tour professional hit the ball a country mile high in the air. No one hits the ball as high as they do, so have a higher ball flight works well. Don't regret it. Stick with it, and enjoy being able to hold greens much more often.

Current bag: Some Callaway, some Cleveland. Down to 2 OEM's!

getting new shafts that are non-flighted would really be the only option.

I agree. Try DGS300's, or nonflighted PJX 6.0

I disagree but my solutions are more dangerous to the beginning golfer's development.

First and foremost though, getting the ball high in the air is a sign of strenght and skill in the golfer, if done right. Nicklaus in his youth was much admired for the height he could achieve with his 1, 2 or 3 Irons. Tour pros and the best amateurs fly high and land soft. It simplifies the game to just fly far and drop dead because all you have to worry about is your carry and direction. If you have to factor in low height and roll you need to consider obstacles and landing areas very carefully.

You can lower the flight by standing a bit wider thereby swinging a bit flatter, putting the ball a ball diameter to the rear or swinging flatter by putting the ball a but farther away, or combinations of all of the above. You can also make a mess of your game and get lost by playing with these controls if you don't know your own swing very very well.

Yep, we have a winner. The flighted shafts are made to hit the ball a little higher.

I'm with golfware. I'm yet to see an amatuer hit the ball too high unless they have a low swing speed. Tour pros hit it super high.

Swing speed equates to height so unless you got a crappy fitting you probably aren't hitting it too high.
