fixyurdivot 17,416
The 2022 seasons first major (warm-up) is next up on the Florida swing and held at TPC Sawgrass, home of the infamous #17 island green. Having opened in 1980, it's a relative newbie amongst the list of tour stops. JT returns to defend his title and, in his own words, try and repeat "probably the best round of my life". His final round last year was indeed amazing and I dare say one that will be a challenge to repeat. This years purse more than beat inflation and jumps from $15M to $20M. I see that Bryson will still be out on the DL and Rickie will also not be in the field - first time since 2009. The field is stacked with top shelf players and this should be a great contest. Don't forget to pick your winner in our pool. I'm going to keep selecting Brooks until he finally wins one . https://runmypools.com/JRMPNWWF. Good luck! Doesn't look that intimidating to me... you? 2 Quote G410 Plus, 9 Degree Driver G400 SFT, 16 Degree 3w G400 SFT, 19 Degree 5w ZX5 Irons 4-AW Glide 2.0 56 Degree SW (removed from double secret probation ) ER5v Putter (Evnroll ER5v Official Review)
Kenny B 33,381
From this side of the green... no. Seems like the Rickie got a raw deal with The Players only having a 5-year exemption when the majors have a 10-year exemption. Yeah, he hasn't earned a spot, but still... 2 1 Quote “We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”
Middler 3,586
Can't wait, my third favorite tournament of the entire year. There are at least a dozen players who have the tools to win, but you never know who will peak this Thur-Sun and who won't. Current highly ranked players who have not won there: Rahm, Morikawa, Cantlay, Hovland, Scheffler, DJ, Schauffele, C Smith, Matsuyama, Oosthuizen, Speith, Horschel, Koepka, Berger Top players who have won: McIlroy, Thomas 1 Quote Callaway Rogue 10.5° & 3W Mizuno CLK 3H 19°, JPX900 Forged 4-GW, S18 56.10, S18 60.06 Evnroll ER5B Fit@TrueSpec ER2 Maxfli Tour Snell MTB-Black Ping Pioneer - MGI Zip Navigator AT

fixyurdivot 17,416
Almost forgot about a secondary contest for total number of water balls at #17. I'll wait to see what the weather conditions look like on Wednesday before making my guess. Your entry must be posted in the thread by midnight Wednesday. Mystery gift to the winner (if in the lower 48). DannyDips 365
Balls in the water on #17? 66.... I love The Players. Pete Dye, Toughest field in golf, tons of variability, winners are always complete players and in solid form. I do not like the "5th Major" status. Yes, it's certainly the 5th most exciting PGA tournament but there can be only one "Major" played on the same course every season.... 1 Quote Location: Golf Capital of Tennessee Epic Max LS 9° Driver, X stiff MMT 60 shaft (MGS Tester) G410 17° hybrid, X stiff M1 20.5° hybrid, X stiff JPX-921 Tours 4 iron thru PW, Modus 105 X stiff S18 50°, 56° & 60° Single Stock #3 34.5" putter 2019 MSG Forum Tester- Bridgestone e12 2021 Callaway Epic Max LS Driver Test

I would think there would be less balls in the water because the green will be softer. There are a lot of balls that hit the green, after it gets baked in the sun & wind, that roll off into the water. That happened a lot last year when they let the green dry out at the end of the week. Made for a boring final round as no one challenged that front right Sunday pin location and just aimed for the middle. I'm guessing that wind will cause issues Saturday but the other days you're spot on and they should have an easier green to hit. Pin location can play a part too, too risky and they will all hit to the middle and take a 40' putt. I still think it will be slightly over what looks like an average in the 50s... Fun to wait and see! 2 Quote Location: Golf Capital of Tennessee Epic Max LS 9° Driver, X stiff MMT 60 shaft (MGS Tester) G410 17° hybrid, X stiff M1 20.5° hybrid, X stiff JPX-921 Tours 4 iron thru PW, Modus 105 X stiff S18 50°, 56° & 60° Single Stock #3 34.5" putter 2019 MSG Forum Tester- Bridgestone e12 2021 Callaway Epic Max LS Driver Test
fixyurdivot 17,416
There are definitely some years in the table with "interesting" numbers. Like 2005 where, simply based on a full vs. cut field, the numbers are reversed. Quigleyd 811
Always a fun event. There is always the 5th major talk and the tour really really really wants it to be a major. I think the players should just be the players. It does just fine standing on its own. Lots of long bunkers off the fairways so it can be penal in that regard, but lots of room to play safe. Interesting but not crazy greens.
