The Valspar Championship - 2022

Well, no rest for the weary.  After the craziest Players event on record, a week long slog that only Pete Dye could love, the field heads to Tampa Bay area and Copperhead CC for the Valspar Championship. Sam Burns returns to defend his title and, at least for now, a pretty healthy field, to include many from The Players, are expected to be there.  The weather forecast looks much better... I cannot help but think that will help any last minute travel plans.  Those of us with Fantasy teams will have another dimension to factor into the play & sit decision. 

Some fun facts about Copperhead CC:

• It was designed by Larry Packard and opened in 1974
• A contest ($250 purse) was held to name the course and included; Big Divot CC, Run Gator Run CC, and Skinny Squirrel CC
• Copperhead snakes are not indigenous to this part of Florida but Cottonmouths are... hmmm 
• The desire to name the course after a snake was due to holes 16-18 being considered the "snake pit".
• Paul Azinger was quoted as saying "it's the best course on tour" and Curtis Strange said "if I had to choose one course to play the rest of my life, it would be Copperhead"

Indeed, he, Rahm, and a few other top names have been a bit off their games of late... but that won't last long.  When these gets get it going, they make up lots of ground quick.

To those of you who are participating in the weekly pool, what does your standings show?  I have no idea what score 27 and 1203 strokes means?

I believe the 27 is your score in relation to par for the players you have selected.  The 1203 is total stroke taken for the events.    Am assuming the stars indicate the events that have been entered since everyone doesn’t enter every week.

All I know about the score is I went from 2nd at -70 to +70 and way down the leaderboard the last 3 weeks

So did you pick a winner in any of the events?  Maybe Jamie knows but, at this point, I have no idea how this app is keeping score.

No winner. Just choose 1 guy from each tier and total score to par is your score

Missed this post.  That makes sense.  Not sure about the asterisk's though as I've picked a player for every event (7 so far) and got the system acknowledge that it was made.  I've poked around on the web and the app site trying to glean insights on how it works but no joy as yet - beyond the note field.  I totally forgot about the +100 for cut players... that's harsh .

This is definitely not the caliber of Rob's Office Pools for the majors, but it was free and neither Jamie or I felt like springing for the $25/event cost of Office Pool.

You're thinking of Rob's Office Pools format.  This one only allows one player to be selected for each week.

I think the asterisks are how many players you've selected that have missed the cut. That's why I have more asterisks than tournaments played

Their talking about the likelihood of a record low cut line for the event... quite a contrast from last week .

Wow, B2B wins and Sam's second of the season!  These rookie players are getting more impressive each year.  I think that speaks to how well college golf programs are preparing these players.  Much like college football and basketball, they are moving into the professional ranks with, seemingly, little growing pains. I see this as a HUGE difference to the PGA fields of 20+ years ago.
