Over-priced accessories

I'll start.

I recently bought a Bushnell Launch pro (CG3 w/ subscription pricing) which itself is expensive and could be argued that is overpriced.   It comes with an alignment stick which BLP/GC3/GCQuad will recognize to calibrate itself to the target line.  Pretty slick.  I wanted an extra one just in case, I break it or lose it.   $150 for a fiber glass marker stick with reflective tape wrapped on it.  Granted, it folds into 3 sections, but $150?  That's 5% of the unit's price!   For that money, it needs to guarantee to straighten my drives or something.

I guess they figure if you have the cash to buy a $3,000 machine you can afford another $150…

You have a point there.  But, it's like paying $30 for a replacement torque wrench.  I hope they are not that much.   Mine do have cool Callaway and Taylormade logos on them :).    No foresight/bushnell logo to be found on my alignment stick!   

It doesn't really matter as if I ever break one, I'll likely just make one myself.

Just a note here, that I have been told by one of my club fitters that different brands might use a different torque spec so be carefull relacing or mixing them up. If you end up using one with a high enough setting above the original you could strip your shaft threads...

That used to be the case, but currrently most of the large OEM  Titleist, PING, TaylorMade, Srixon and Callaway are all interchangeble.  Only Mizuno and possibly Cobra have heads that don't fit the other wrenches.

There’s a business opportunity for you. Create the same product at a cheaper cost and sell it to those looking for an extra one

There's guy doing it on Ebay for $75.   I'll have to undercut him at $50.

I'm taking your thread as a vent.  Companies are very careful when they price their products.  They know their costs, their desired profit margins and what the market will accept.  You can always pass rather than buying.  To me a buck for an alignment stick is too much.  I have an assortment of older shafts in my closet that will fill that purpose or even irons that I'm not hitting while practicing.  I put some sort of alignment help down frequently when practicing but its something that I already have around the house.

 

Others, lots of others, like the sticks so people make them and market them.  There will always be a demand at the high end of that stuff.

Note: my Ping wrench fits exacting into the screw of my King F9 5 wood.

Other than Srixon that has always been the case. The concern is the torque rating, several of them had different ratings even though they had the same screw

Yes, it's a vent.  I get the economics of it.  If I really ended up making one, I will probably make 2 and see if I can sell it on Ebay for $50.  It's capitalism.   It's still fun to ****** about it, particularly as a group.   I was hoping for more examples of outrageously priced golf accessories for fun.   Like this one, a towel that attaches your clubs...

Speaking of which... got a friend of a friend working for MontBlanc... said they had some employee discount... I like their pens, the type you use your whole life if you don't lose it. Out of curiosity checked their keyrings... $250 for a piece of metal??? Gotta be out of your f****** mind lol
