Post your “Hole of the Round”

null

Recommended Posts

I’ll get things started. Had 4 birdies today but #17 was probably the most textbook.

The hole was playing a little down wind so I pulled my hybrid out (normally I’d hit 3 wood) and piped a beautiful baby draw down the middle. 2nd shot is over weather and I had a little over 150 yards left. I pulled 9 iron to allow for the wind to give me a little more carry and I hit a beautiful shot that landed and stopped 12ft from the pin. Slight downhill right to left putt was good from the moment it left the putter face

I don't have either, but here is the hole of the round for me the other day. Par 5 13th 523 yards dogleg right tight launching area with no real way to cut the corner at least for a 15 HDCP on purpose. I hit my 6 iron about 195 left center fairway and had about 330ish left to the middle of the green. I don't have a 3 wood so I grab my 3 HY and promptly hit it about 6" off the ground and it leaves me 174 to the pin. 7 iron hit the green just past the hole and the balls just off the fringe into the thicker grass. I chip to about 4' then somehow keep my knees from knocking and make the putt for what felt like a really tough par.  The tee shot is deceiving as you can only go about 230 before your in the crap with no chance at hitting the green in 3. This is a 3 shot to hit the green unless your skilled or lucky enough to bend a driver around the corner on demand.

Can't wait to hear some better stories than mine.

Played three holes today before we called it a day.  Cold, wet, and windy.  But I got my first birdie of the season!

Took a rather roundabout path on this one.  It's a dogleg left with the wind coming from the right and going towards the hole from the leg.  I played for the wind and crushed it (for me) dead straight...just as the wind died, lol.

Wound up pretty far into the adjacent fairway; the smart play would be to punch it back through the trees and in front of the creek to lay up.  Luckily I'm not smart so I pulled the 5 wood that I use maybe once per round, launched it over the trees with the wind at my back and stuck it half a ball away from the pin for a tap in birdie.

  • 2 weeks later...

Had a favorable wind direction on this par 5 yesterday so I tees it high and hit a beautiful fade over the corner leaving me a PW (downwind) in. Played left of the tucked pin and had 30 feet left for eagle. Rolled a beautiful putt and it just rolled across the front of the cup and had a tap in for birdie

The wind has been howling here in FL for the past 6 weeks. Last week was no exception. We had a 2+ club  blustery wind in the face on almost every hole. In spite of that I was still able to make this birdie.

I'll post two from Saturday's round. Both pars, given the conditions (30s and blustery), I'm happy.

20220418.jpg.a3116e4252cda8e1bcaa1013818e23fb.jpg

Into the wind on No. 7, middled a 4 hybrid from the tee that pushed just into the right rough. Approach shot wasn't very good (was a hair away from a shank), but a nice two putt from 30 feet on a tough green.

No. 16 only had a crosswind to deal with, thankfully, and hit a nice little cut that again just barely rolled into the right rough. Best drive of the day and very happy with the distance as both myself and the ball had been out in the temps for over two hours at this point. Played a low wedge into the green (not a good shot, came up very short of hole), hit a meh first putt but sunk a 7 footer to save the par. This hole is quite long from the back and narrow so a par is a good score on a nice day and a great score in the conditions we were playing in.

No.  I am not sure what the deal is here.  I had a similar shot last year.  I used a 3 iron though and it was in the swamp.  It’s not downhill much, and the wind is rather light. I nearly did it again, another 3 yards and it would  have rolled in.

Going to try the driver next time I play to see if I can clear the swamp.

Here is the hole that ruined my chance at breaking 80.

Number 10 at Painted Mountain GC in Mesa AZ is a short par 3 125 yards to the middle. The green is guarded by water in the front and slopes that direction.  The pin was in front at 106 yards not a hard shot just an easy A wedge or grab the 56 and give just a touch more to not come up short. I grab the 56 as that’s an easier shot for me than choking down and swinging easy, I, 8 out of 10 times will flub this shot.

I tee it up just off the top of the grass and make my swing, contact is squarely in the middle of the ball. This is evident as the ball goes flying towards the green just to the right. Over the green it goes and into an orange tree in someone’s yard 25 yards behind the green and comes to rest there. I’m like ok, tee up another one put it on the green and hope for a boggy. I proceed to fat this one and into the water it goes. Pleasant trees are voiced, I take my medicine go up to the drop area and proceed to play out from there. A fabulous 7 on that hole.

I didn’t realize the effect this would have until after the round when adding up the score. This isn’t the only hole that makes the chance but a quad on a or three is kick to the nards.

Number 10 at Las Colinas in AZ. Long Par 4. I usually try to drive this at the trees on the right, but I hit a weak push that never got much elevation and run out a bit into the left rough. Really unfortunate because the hole plays long and there a ridge at about 250-260 where if your ball goes over it will run down the hill some. Not uncommon for me to hit 280-290 drives here. You want to be close for a controlled approach because this green has an elevated upper tier, and if you are on it putting down the hill there is no way to stop your ball. Its 3 putt city. Of course the pin is front center, so I'm trying to underclub a hair to not go long, and I just absolutely flush an 8 iron. Its right at the pin. I mean right at it like it going to land in the hole. Lands on the green and takes a couple of bounces. Flier. No good. The ball keeps rolling to the peak of the tier. Im yelling at it, no no no no no no!! The other people in my group are so confused because I just drilled this shot to 15 feet. But I've had that nightmare putt before and didnt want it again. Your ball is going to run 8 feet past down the hill unless you hit it the cup. The ball stops for a few seconds. I'm using a bright @Yellow Ball so everyone can see it sitting there on the peak,  and then it moves. Wait, did it? Am I dehydrated? Drunk? I thought it wiggled. And then again. WTF. And then for sure its rolling back in slow motion. We all start screaming. Come back! Back! Yes! Go go go go go go!. It picks up some steam and rolls right by the hole and luckily stop about 3 feet short of it. Tap in bird. But the excitement from the group was the fun part.

Definitely this one: my first eagle!  Tee shot was good but that hybrid was nuts! My depth perception is terrible; I hit a rope that felt good but I was looking for my ball around one of the trees on the right closest to the fairway.  My buddy Randy looked up and noticed the ball on the green about five feet from the pin.  Managed to sink the putt.

On this round I was pretty happy I almost got my first hole in one, but that isn't my hole for the round. 18th par 5 488 yards wind coming from the left and little help which I'll account for the driver shot, There is a speed slot on this hole as well. My second shot was from 163 to the pin. There is water from about 130 in all the way on the right side of the green. A lot of times if you hit the green and your ball is moving right it will make it to the water as there is a wall and the green is cut right up to the wall. I hit a smooth 7 left of the hole and it's holding the line and I was like please be the number. Then it starts drifting right and I'm Iike noooo stop going right. Ball lands about 3' right of the pin and stops at about 8'. I was like ohhhh thank you. Putt was flat, straight and all i needed was to get the speed right, Which I did for my second eagle, whew.

More about the recovery than the hole as a whole😅

16th hole playing into a 20mph wind. Solid drive, followed by a massive pull hook with my 5 wood. Blind shot over the elevated 17th tee from the 18th fairway. Put it to about 8 feet and made a downhill left to right slider.

Fridays fun, let’s take one that I all around played well.

18 at Greystone, the closer, 380 from the blues.

Wind in the face off the tee, hit 3 wood which left me 155 to a back left pin.

80% 7 iron that found the middle left of the green and 15’ for birdie. Made the putt and closed out the round on a bright note.

Yesterday. I had a little help from my friend, Windy… but this was nuked anyways… of course, I pulled the wedge shot.  As you can see, I reinstalled the sensors… but eventually I’m going to replace them with grips, or a different tracking system.

probably should have been the loan birdie hole, but this was way more fun.
