Break80once
Average player, 16 handicap with a driver going around 220 metres. Been playing Chrome Soft Travis but have been trialling TP5 pix. I like the TP5 better around the green but there is a noticeable difference in distance on irons, at least a club. I assume it is added spin but keen to know if others have found similar? The difference is more obvious with the new CS. Quote Driver: Callaway Epic Max LS w Hzrdus Smoke 6.0 2H: Srixon ZX w Hzrdus Smoke 6.0 4H: Srixon ZX w Hzrdus Smoke 6.0 Irons: XXIO X 12 5-PW w N.S. fixyurdivot
I have recently played TP5's against CS while playing two-ball solo rounds. I found them to be very comparable tee to green, but can definitely feel the higher TP5 compression. The CS might be a wee bit (like 1-2 yards) longer. Admittedly, I may be the forums worst source for ferreting out golf ball attributes. Try as I have, I simply find so many to yield so little difference in play. Minor differences, yes... but nothing that is a game changer. If you haven't done so, check out the most recent MGS Ball Lab report and the independent review of that review by the forums de facto golf ball analyst. sirchunksalot and cnosil 2 Quote G410 Plus, 9 Degree Driver G400 SFT, 16 Degree 3w G400 SFT, 19 Degree 5w ZX5 Irons 4-AW Glide 2.0 56 Degree SW (removed from double secret probation ) ER5v Putter (Evnroll ER5v Official Review) AI-One Milled Seven T CH (Currently Under Product Test)
bens197
Ask a question about a golf ball and you'll get a million answers. Some folks suggest starting around the green and work backwards. Some suggest total distance from the teebox and proceed from there. You have to ask yourself what is most important for your game. It's ambiguous but there are so many factors that contribute to making this choice. With wedges, it's too much for my game and balls rip off greens. I personally didn't see more distance from CS vs TP5, but given how much more spin the TP5 gave me, it wouldn't surprise me if the CS was eeking out a couple extra yards on full swings. Both are pretty soft, but CS feels mushy to me, which I don't care for. Break80once
Thanks, I’m a good club longer with CS and around 20 yards longer with driver. Ive made it hard for myself by preferring a patterned ball, just walking to it and seeing it early before the next shot etc. I know that makes little sense, but golf…. Question I do have is x balls, is that really swing speed related or are us weekend hacks actually better off, or no worse off, playing something like a TP5X? Not sure about swing speed, my driver averages around 240, my 7 iron is my 150 yard club. TheRadly
Hi new here! But I wanted to say i always liked how the TP5 felt off the tee, especially when hitting an iron off the tee. Though I have since switched to the CSX LS. Especially of the tee I dont get in as much trouble. The MGS golf ball test showed that even slow swing speeds had better distance with higher compression balls like the MTB-X. Ever since the industry went from liquid to rubber cores, any golfer can play any ball and as MGS proved out “soft is slow”. So go ahead and take a sleeve of X balls to the course. I’m a higher handicap player and love the firmer feel and admit I get a bit more distance and definitely better green-side spin. Break80once
Thanks and interesting. I play golf in two locations, Melbourne and Tasmania. Different bags so testing balls takes a little longer even if the set ups of the bag are the same. I played rounds and did a bit of practice with the CS, CSX, TP5, TP5X and the. Bridgestone B XS. CSX and TP5X were the better options. I then tried the Srixon Z Star and have stopped testing. It’s longer, better tee to green and does everything I look for around the green. Will see how that goes for the rest of the year and whether the one ball only consistency results proves right. Tsecor
CS was shockingly long for me.....all the "SOFT" talk and "mushy" talk leads people to think its slow and short.....definitely not the case. The new TP5 was radically changed IMO and is a shell of its former model, which was crazy good for me. ParFore74x 1 Quote Golf is cool
JohnFP
to me, the chrome soft is VERY soft compared to the TP5x. I think the TP5x may be a shade longer but its all about what you feel more comfortable putting with. Either one works, they both bite fine. Somewhere someone posted a golf ball comparison, and if I remember the new Bridgestone was the longest. Cant remember where I saw that, it mught hav been on MGS Quote Driver , Taylormade Sim2 10.5, Hzrds black 6.0 3Wood, Taylormade R15, Hzrds blank 5.5 3Hybrid, Taylormade SLDR, Stock stiff shaft Irons, 4 - P Callaway Apex 19 stiff tour elevate Wedges, 48, 52, 59 Vokey SM 6 Ball, Prov1x
HDTVMAN
TP5 is a 5-piece ball, Chrome Soft is 3-piece. Big difference. I tested the TP-5 for TM when they were introduced and found the flight and spin the best of any ball I've hit. Quote Certified Club Fitter. Not sure about swing speed, my driver averages around 240, my 7 iron is my 150 yard club. I’m under 90 mph squeezing out 200+ yards. In the ProV world, the higher launch and slightly more spin of the X gives me more yards than softer feel balls. I’ve tried the Tour Maxfli and the Tour X version. I’m not impressed with the Tour but the X has resulted in 4 of my 5 longest drives this year. The cover scuffs easily but is a suitable alternative on non-competition days. Also not available in amber. So much for ya got to compress the ball to boom the ball. Your “window” is the best criteria for which ball to use. Higher swing speeds may be hurt by softer balls and lower swing speed players may not see benefit to give up on a soft feel.
