PoorGolfer
As expected, I played like **** again today. It was a stableford format match, I had 25 strokes and I had already decided that if by the 6th hole I didn't have at least 8 points I will quit the match and stop playing golf for an indefinite amount of time. I picked up my ball the 1st hole, bogey'd the 2nd, picked on the 3rd, 4th and 5th. I didn't even care to play the 6th hole. I am going to take a very long break from golf. I won't be back before May, that's if I decide to play again. I've been playing for 2 years now and the best I could shoot through all that time was 89 (19 over par), OK, I was satisfied with that kind of bogey golf. But since my leg injury I have been playing like a donkey. I cannot hit the ball anymore. I can't even get the ball airborne with my irons. Every shot is fat, topped, shanked, or shanked and topped. (waist-high going to the right). I'm done. Addicted to golf since February 2008 Best Score: 89 Birdies:
Moecat
Very sorry to hear that, but hopefully your doctor can pinpoint a course of action will alleviate whatever still ails you from the leg injury. After you address that, see if there's a good instructor who can work around your injury. Golf is definitely a peaks and valleys game. I hope you still have the itch during your time off, and that you come back refreshed with some new-found enthusiasm.
JohnBarry
I agree, time to see a doctor and get things straight. I said I would quit golf before, and drinking two, but I forged ahead, and boom, today, I am doing both, and doing it well! I might be back for a tournament that takes place mid May. So till then I vow not to touch a golf club and not to set my foot on a green. mudfish
I've been in that boat... at the end of the season last year I was feeling like my game was crap, and then winter came and I was forced to take 3 months off... Now I can't wait to get back to it... Work on getting your body back to normal, and hopefully you will get the urge to play again... If the game is not fun, it's not worth playing in my opinion... jamo
It'll be interesting to see how you do when you come back. My father plays about 2 times a year yet he still shoots in the 80's. Sometimes time off is the best remedy. I know last fall I was done with golf. Now here I am, the itch is back.

I got a buddy that really likes golf, but he has a ball-busting wife and he's cheap so he only plays when it's either dirt cheap or free. He plays maybe 5-10 times a year.....mostly shoots in the 70's, but is never much further north of 80. When I first met him, he was playing Cleveland VAS irons, and Top-flite rocks...and always around 75. Drives me nuts that he has that ability and doesn't play more. Yup, that happens to me every year. It sucks but I do get to play indoors occasionally.

We all talk about getting in lots of practice time and working on this and that, but I've played some of my best rounds, hit some of my best shots, when I've had lay offs. I feel like I always come out and play well in the spring after winter golf hibernation. Follow me on Twitter: @MattSaternus
Addicted2Golf
Golf is a very mental game and sometimes I just need a break from it. In Arizona, where you can play pretty much year around, I used to take a couple of months off here and there. Now the winter does that for me here. Anyway, enjoy your time off. Being away from it will remind you why you got hooked in the first place.
