Wells Fargo Championship - 2022

Whoa...wait a minute... who is this guy?  Arguably the most talented journeyman player on tour who, many agree, has far too few wins, will be in the field to defend the title.  Hard to bet against Rory and he has shown recent signs of finally breaking loose.  There was a time not long ago where many thought he would dominate each season Tiger fashion.

The event will be played at TPC Potomac Avenel Farm because Quail Hollow is busy getting their track ready for the Presidents Cup.  While TPC Potomac has not been on the main tour schedule the past few years, it is rich with event history. I did not know this course only has two par 5's.  Generally a tour players best friend, and better than average odds at eagle opportunities, I wonder how they like this set-up? I also did not know that the "Avenel Farm" suffix is in tribute to the historic "short horned" cattle farm... the largest in Maryland history.

I finally picked the winner (Rahm) at The Mexico Open 🥳.  Still undecided on this weeks pick in attempt for the B2B win. Maybe one of my young gun rookies (Cameron Young or Davis Riley?)

Don't forget to make your pick for this weeks winner https://runmypools.com/JRMPNWWF.  Good luck!

Rory McIlroy hangs on to win Wells Fargo Championship

Yes, but much better than Mexico at least for my fantasy squad. I am happy to have Rory, Leishman, Kuchar, and Straka from my regular rotation going this week.

Matt is among a handful of surprise underachievers this season.  Certainly lots of golf left but nothing I've seen makes me think he'll suddenly become a serious East Lake contender.

Agreed. That said, I would gladly sport that Matt's swing, Cam Smith's mullet, Erik van Rooyen's 'stache, Ian Poulter's pants, and a Bryson bowler if it meant I could make a living chasing a little white ball.

I'm bummed about this one.  I had an invite to go out for Monday and Tuesday practice rounds and visit the tour trailers of two OEM.  But can't get away from the full time job due to large outings going on 😞

Weahter is perfect here early this week.  Some rain forecasted for Friday and Saturday could soften the course up in which case they will most likely pick this course apart.  it was redesigned a couple years ago to toughen itup a bit.   But still not overall long compared to modern distances.

Thanks guys. I had it planned to get some good content from the trailers, pics videos to share on the forum to give an inside look.

The thing is.  My boss would have said ok if I asked for the day.  He’s just that way.

But these are my clients and I feel the responsibility to be here during their outings   Even though I rarely do more than meet and greet and thank them as they leave.  But I think I hate not being here when I have an outing going on

There may another chance later in the summer during the BMW Championship when it’s played not too far from here.

I love getting peeks into those tour trucks - so incredibly cool what they're able to accomplish in such a (relatively) small space.

Good on you for being there for your tourney - it's entirely possible that it's not necessary, but I guarantee it goes a LONG way with your clients when they get to shake your hand and thank you personally for all the work you did - I know it would for me.

I always love these tourneys between the Masters and the PGA, especially since they moved it to May - none of them feel HUGE, but they're at great courses and the fields get better and better leading up to the next big one.

Loved seeing Rahm win last week, but loved even more seeing Finau MURDER the weekend after barely making the cut. That guy - if he ever can turn it on for four days, no one will be able to catch him.

Appreciate the kind words.

i agree 100% on Rahm. I think of all the current players on tour he has the most complete gsme, that if he could bottle it all up for a full year or two, we’re talking multiple majors and several tour wins in that span.

He was really close to 1 year ago when he had the COVID withdrawal at the memorial.   Then he comes right back to win the US Open.  But nothing after that.
But Feel safe in saying.  He’s not done with Majors.

Chalk won last week but it's never the best bet; these guys are too good. [Champ with a lousy drive, Rahm with a cart bounce on his and maybe the order changes]. No Rory for me, I wouldn't take Tiger against the field in his heyday either. Arrrgh - just by saying that, Rory will scorch the field by 15 strokes.

Different course though not unfamiliar, I'm checking on who has a nice uptrend going. Conners looks good as a breakthrough. Good luck to all.

A course that most pros hated before the renovation in 2008. Only events I remember being there after hat was the quicken loans 4-5 years ago. Don’t recall hearing anything from the pros good or bad.

The parts of the course I saw when I did a pxg fitting a few years back had some of the rolling fairways we see in courses in that part of Maryland. There were some tight holes

It's nice seeing Fowler back near the top. Starting off a little wobbly today, hope he keeps the wheels on 😬.  The course, with help from the weather, certainly seems to be playing tough - projected cut at even or -1 as things stand now.

So I hadn't gotten fully spooled up on this latest buzz about Sergio. Sergio Garcia Lets Loose After Lost Ball: 'I Can't Wait to Leave This Tour' - Morning Read (si.com)

Not very surprising to me.  He like a handful of others seem like they are in the primo point in their careers to "cash in"... while they can.  With their window of opportunities on the main tour quickly closing, and bonus bucks being offered by LIV, I suspect others are thinking what Sergio blurted out in frustration.

It is definitely an interesting dynamic;  does the tour "suspend" all the players that have submitted applications to play?  If there are big name players involved what will the short and long term impact be to the PGA tour?   While we will know some of the names soon,  I think it will be close to a year before it all settles out.  Success or failure of the LIV tour will have to be shown before the PGA tour will have to make a significant move.

Asking for just an exemption I don’t think they would suspend them but if they are denied the exemption and play in the Saudi league then yes.

There’s big names rumored already with Sergio, Poulter, Westwood, Bubba, Fleetwood and some other Euros. While they are all big names none of them really are contenders week in and week out on the PGA tour. I don’t see these guys not being on tour having any negative impact.

If would take the likes of Bryson, DJ, Rahm, Morikawa, Rory, JT leaving to have an impact

Watching the early coverage on ESPN+ and the British Open has come to Maryland.

i can’t believe they are still able to play.  We’ve had over 2” of rain since yesterday.

They had to dramatically improve the course drainage during the remodel. There is no way the old course would have help up.   Looks like they will get it all in by Sunday at this rate

Pulling for Denny McCarthy a local kid who played HS golf just a few miles from Avenel.   Also of course pulling for JDay as I’ve told the story many times about him and my pro am experience many years ago.  Plus Chad Ramey as another media acquaintance played with him in the Pro Am.  Said he was a great guy snd lot of fun

Also pulling for Rickie and Wolfe  of course.  So many great stories
