Puma PwrAdapt Leather 2.0

Anyone sporting these Puma golf shoes?  I'm reading some reviews stating that Puma tends to run about 1/2 size large and trying to decide whether to buy my true 12 or an 11-1/2.  Thanks

I have three pair and they do run 1/2 size bigger. I wear a size 11 and 10-1/2 fit perfectly. The first pair I made the mistake of ordering my true size and they have a little to much room in the toe box. Then the next pair I went down a 1/2 size.  Lesson learned. Perfect!

The Puma web site even tells you that they fit long and to go down a 1/2 size. Wish I saw that the first time but I didn't get them directly from PUMA.

Thanks Tom.  I did see that on the Puma website but that was on the non-leather version. I don't see a similar sizing note on the leather 2.0.  IGNITE PWRADAPT Leather 2.0 Golf Shoes, 192989 (cobragolf.com).  PGASS website reviews suggest they run true to size. I should probably contact Puma and see what they say.

That's the exact pair I have plus another with the cable tension thing.  But you might be correct that the leather runs differently. I would call PUMA customer service and ask. They were very helpful for me when I had an issue with the first pair that were two years old. The sockets that held the spikes were ripping out of the bottom of the shoe. Their customers service told me that the design flaw was fixed and gave me a credit for a new pair on their site. I liked them so much I picked up another pair.

Thanks again.  I just stumbled onto @edingc's review on two Ignite PwrAdapt styles he gamed and described (with photos) the failure of the sole and cleats 😬.  I also found a thread on Hackers Paradise talking about issues with cleat mounts failing. It sounds like Puma made design changes but since the pair I'm looking at are new, old stock, maybe I should move on?  I don't think I'm overly tough on shoes, but I do walk a lot.  Too bad as these are nice looking...hmmm 🤔.

I bought a pair of these like those pictured and went down a 1/2 size. Length is perfect. Mine are also the wide version but they don’t seem to be as wide as other brands. Just a bit on the snug side.

In fairness to Puma, the replacement DISC laceless set is still going strong and is primarily my range/stay in the trunk pair of cleats. They're "waterproof" but not as waterproof as I need them to be. I also have a set of laced ones that I won on MGS and they don't really see much use anymore because they are a pain to get on and off. Those are the ones that have worn through in the heel, which is probably the result of them being about 1/2 size too big for me (they do seem to run long).

For actual on course use I'm almost always on New Balance Striker v2s, but if it's dry the Pumas occasionally make an appearance.

The spike retention cleat issue was a pair that was at least three seasons ago. During their second season they failed and Puma replaced them last season. I'm sure the stock that you are looking at are not as old as they were. They did fix the issue of the retention material.  If you like them go for it. Puma customer service was great. I sent photos and within 24 hours (on a weekend) they replied and told me to pick out a new pair on line. Gave them the size and style and they shipped the next work day.

  • 1 month later...

So I did buy a pair of these and here's the good, the bad, and the ugly.

First the good is their styling and excellent traction. They are one of the better looking shoes IMO, the leather uppers appear of better than average quality, and they offer excellent traction.  I've worn them in damp and dry conditions and they stick like glue.

The bad is that they are the hardest golf shoe to get into I've ever had.  Interestingly enough, while performing gymnastics getting them on in the parking lot prior to one of our PNW meet-up rounds, @Thin2winmentioned he had a pair, hated this aspect about them and got rid of them.  The neoprene sock/cage concept should come with a shoe-horn.  They are a real PITD trying to slip on.  That said, once that feat is complete, they feel really good... until they don't.

The ugly aspect is that the Puma designers felt the need to put some kind of reinforcement in the heel area (probably knowing it would prematurely wear out from the insane efforts required to slip on 😆).  After a few holes walking, I start to feel that mystery reinforcement and it bites you in the heel.  Maybe no issue riding in a cart, but problematic for us walkers.

I know Puma is big on these "caged" designs with neoprene sock fit but I think they will be a pass for me in the future simply due to the effort required getting into them.  I'm not sure if other similar designs also have whatever reinforcement they use in the heel area but, if so, that would be a no-go as well. I'll try some mole-skin in that spot to get them to the finish line.

Bottom-line is that I think Puma missed the mark on these designs and needs to spend some time back in the blackboard (or whiteboard) room refining these shortcomings.  Sadly, I can only squeeze out a 1.5 star rating.
