Has anyone ever used stadium turf for a golf practice space?

Recommended Posts

I have an opportunity to get my hands on some football stadium turf. Is there any difference between this versus what you can find on a golf site or landscape section of the hardware store? If you've used stadium turf or hit off it before, what is it like?

Hitting mats in general are pretty much a get what you pay for item. Sports Turf is usually pretty hard(firm) to hit off and without a good pad below it can cause wrist pain or injury. If it's your only I option,  it will work, but I would recommend short hitting sessions.

Agree with @Thin2win on this.  However, my BIL has set up a putting green in his back yard with stadium turf that has held up for going on 10 years with very little wear or damage. His is actual football stadium turf that he procured from a head stadium grounds keeper back then when they redid the surface.

I would imagine it's fine for covering the whole area, but for the hitting patch have a removeable section that you can replace when worn and add cushioning underneath to reduce risk of injury.  Or put a dedicated golf hitting mat in.

Thanks for the feedback all. I think I will use it for a standing surface primarily, and get a smaller padded piece to hit off.
