DIY Wedge grinding?

I just got this Maltby Max Milled wedge in. For $60 I figured it would be worth a gamble. I've been playing the TSW wedges in 50° and 56° and love them. The grind is a very versatile C type grind that allows you to open up the face when needed.

As much as I want to love the Max Milled, it's just a very "square" approach no nonsense shape. I've considered grinding in some heel relief or maybe a similar C shape.

Has anybody had any luck doing their own wedge grinding? I've got a 10" grinding/buffing wheel that should do the trick but it's a complete 1st for me. Any advice or experience would be very much appreciated

Thanks!

Sorry to muck up your thread but I can't resist - when I lived in Connecticut I did a lot of wedge grinding - lots of rocks just under the soil there - hit it in the woods and you put your clubs and skeletal system at risk in a big way. 🙂

Taylor Made Stealth 2 10.5 Diamana S plus 60  Aldila  R flex   - 42.25 inches

SMT 4 wood bassara R flex, four wood head, 3 wood shaft

Ping G410 7, 9 wood  Alta 65 R flex

Srixon ZX5 MK II  5-GW - UST recoil Dart 65 R flex

India 52,56 (60 pending)  UST recoil 75's R flex

Evon roll ER 5 32 inches

It's our offseason so auditioning candidates - looking for that right mix of low spin long, more spin around the greens - TBD

If they are chrome plated it’s not that smart to do.

if they are raw/unplated then your are fine.

the wedge you are looking to grind looks chrome plated

Oh they're chrome plated for sure. Aside from the risk of rust by grinding off the chrome, are there any other concerns that I should have?

This is more of an experiment to see if I can create something better than what I'm currently using. If I eff it up, I'll just add it to the pile 😜

I believe removing the chrome releases toxins so you need to be very cognizant of the process and protective measures you take.
