Electric Car Purchase

Picked up the car and actually got to "unveil" it... which because we didn't have the baby seat and all that meant Allyssa wasn't there and needless to say she was not happy when she found out about it... Either way so far car has been great and had a good run around with it. Definitely something to get use to but really enjoy it so far and given the eco/brake regen system its efficiency is way up. Couldn't be happier! Plus it has a cool inboard 3d display which is unique.

That's one good looking ride, Jamie! Although, as a cockpit guy, I'm just a little disappointed I'm not seeing a photo of how it's set up on the inside. 🤣  That 3D HUD sounds interesting.

In all honesty, I hope you and your family enjoy cruising around in it.

Nice, haven't really seen much about these since there's no chance they ever land stateside. I like that it looks like an actual car!

Same here. They have the near exact same car in gas as well. The only difference is the grill lines are vertical not horizontal and some e badging. For being a lower height car is feels so much bigger and roomier which is nice. There is also next to no space for all sorts of nonsense here (parking, roads) so having a big vehicle is just a bad idea.

Interesting that the interior has the middle console division where the transmission/driveshaft goes on petrol cars. Guess they kept it exactly like the combustion cousin you mentioned! Congrats on the new ride

... Wow, after everything moving at a snails pace for 1.5 years things are suddenly happening at light speed. Ordered the Mach E in March 2020 and cancelled the order in November 2020 as the Genesis GV60 was due for a March 2021 release. That dragged on to June, then late summer. Finally a few weeks ago I was able to put a deposit down on my GV60 but no delivery date yet definitely by the end of the year. Just got a call and it is scheduled to arrive Thursday the 29th! Thankfully I already bought my Juice Box charger but now need an installation. Electrician said he should be able to install by the 29th if no problems arise on jobs already scheduled. At least I get 3 years of free 30 minuute charging from Electrify America and the GV60 goes from 20-80% in 18 minutes.

i put a pre-order deposit on a 2024 cadillac lyriq about a month ago.

they’re supposed to start taking orders in mid-2023, which works for me since my lease is due back sometime late in 23.

if delivery and reviews of the 2023 models go well, maybe this is finally the car that gets me away from the gas pump

... GV60 update. Wrong #$%$%^^&&% car! The only GV60s shipped were the Performance model not the Advanced model. HP jumps from 314 in the Advanced (plenty for me) to 429 in the Performance but also a $10k jump in price. So back to the waiting list for the Advanced AWD model and they have no timetable at this point. Bummed...

That sucks.  The gv60, ionic7 and ev6 are all pretty nice.

... Sounds promising. My Power Provider had a $250 instant rebate on the Juicebox 40 and the install is just under $500 and of course I need(ed) it by Thursday.

For me,  my current breaker box is full,  so to add in a 40amp service I need to add a secondary panel,  and move something from the primary to the secondary to fit the service breaker for the secondary. So after buying the new panel,  a couple 50 amp breakers, filling the permit and doing the work.... it was significantly more then $500. Glad that you can get it done relatively soon and relatively inexpensive.

It this gizmo works as the article describes it,  I'll be able drop my instalation cost by about 1k. Right now just using 120v, it charges about 3 miles of charge per hour.

My JB40 has been serving us very well. Pulls 39.9A just fine. Was going to leave it at 32A to follow the 80% rule but my electrician friend said it's fine as long as my breaker can handle it. He put in a 60A breaker for my JB40, and moved one circuit of wall plugs to share another 30A breaker

Interesting, I doubt my elec company would let me install this lol. They're literally the worst.

Right now I have a PHEV, so only a 14kw battery.  That's good for about 30 miles,  which covers about 90% of my daily driving.  If I get a full electric ill definitely need more charging power.  But averaging over 300mpg on this is pretty good.

Really late to this thread but we picked up a very low mileage 2021 Tesla S LD+ 6 months or so ago.  Really a great car.  We had a 2021 Tesla Y (short range) that we'd bought new a year before we got the S but wanted longer range.  We actually got $6K more than we paid trading in the Y thru Vroom.  Really happy we upgraded to the S and having the around 400+ mile range is great.

... Mine installed a 60A breaker as well. So since we have the same battery in our cars and the same charger my question is, how long does it take for a full charge and do you always charge it completely? My Power company offers a reduced EV rate between 11pm to 6am and of course I can program it to charge then.

with our Tesla, if we charge it up to 100% the regen breaking doesn't work for awhile until the battery goes down some, think 95% is a good spot to charge to for a long trip.  I usually charge mine to 80% every few days or when it gets below 200 mile range.  Seems I read somewhere to not always charge the batteries to maximum as it lessens their life or something like that......

... Update: My deposit was refunded as they have no timetable for the Advanced model. Most likely not available til winter 2023 but ya never know. At least I am still at the top of the list when they do start shipping. Probably gonna be 2 years from the time I put a deposit down on an EV before I finally get one. Crazy times ...
