Shankster
Driver: The driver Has always been my love/hate club. As a kid the Great Big Bertha was brand new, and half the size of our current selection. I made the golf team in high school without having any woods in the bag, I used a PING Zing 1 iron… only to be cut 2 weeks later. When I made my comeback to golf in 2013/14 Jason Day was on top of the world, so doing what a lot of consumers do, I went full Taylormade from top to bottom. That driver was the R1, and I absolutely loved it. A few years into its tenure in my bag, the strap on the cart came loose while I was going up a hill and my bag fell off, which of course broke the shaft and severely dented the R1. I believe right after that I was picked up for the i200 test. So me being a everything must match guy, I bought a PING G driver. I absolutely smoked this thing. I have no idea why I ever got rid of it. I didn’t replace it with anything for quite some time, I went 2/3’s of a season with just a 3 wood. Then tried the Mini Bertha 1.5 before purchasing my PXG 0811. The PXG has been an “ok” driver. I’ve finally gotten used to it and can hit some bombs with it but the miss is huge, and punishing. That’s all me. But I’m blaming it on Bob. I have not been fitted for a driver ever, so hopefully I can see some gains in both the distance and dispersion departments. As I mentioned, I am open to all brands except Callaway and PXG… unless of course I go Rogue…. But that is doubtful. Right now I am averaging around 270-280 with some real bombs occasionally. Shankster
Woods/Hybrids: Another underused slot in my bag. I use my 3 wood maybe once a round, and it usually is a mistake when I do. The 2 hybrid has been my go to fairway finding and distance wise it’s 240+, so having the 3 wood which can be great but more than likely punishing in the bag doesn’t seem logical. My pre fitting thoughts for this is possibly a 2 and 3 Mizuno CLK, at 14° and 18°, but we shall see what Mr. Fitter dude has to say. Not trying to brag or anything but I’ve not run across a time when I needed to hit 3 wood into a green. If I did have that shot I would probably lay up anyways to save a huge number. Currently have a TM SLDR 3 wood, and TM Jetspeed 2 hybrid in play. Stock shafts. Never fitted for these either. brogies, GrumpyGolf, JohnSmalls and 2 others
Shankster
Irons: My bread and butter… I love hitting irons, always have. There is nothing better than a flushed 3 iron. I’ve been through a few sets. Had some old Wilson blades as a kid, some old PING’s, Pal Joey’s, Titleist DCI OS, Titleist 990, Taylormade RBZ Tours, PING i200 (thanks MGS), PING Blueprints (Huge thanks MGS), and currently gaming the T100s (traded the blueprints for them to another MGS member). I have been “fitted” for these but it wasn’t the best. My game was not good either time. So I am curious to see if the T100s can be bettered. They are some of the best irons I’ve ever used, and they look great. Tall task ahead for whichever brand. I refuse to hit anything other than a players type iron. Huge bulky clubs scare the crap out of me. This section also includes the driving iron. Can’t wait. Again, no Callaway or PXG. Shankster
Wedges: A part of my game that I used to rely heavily on, in fact I used to miss greens on purpose so I could pull off a Seve-Esq shot. Today, I am much smarter than that, and a really good putter, so the wedges have the mop up duty when I hit a poor iron shot, or one of those elusive lay ups. I don’t find my way to the bunker very often, again this part of my game is fading because of lack of practice at it. The new course I’ll be playing is riddled with bunkers, so I imagine this part of my game will be relied on again. Wedges I have had in play. Taylormade Tour Preferred, Cobra KING, Bridgestone Tour B’s (thanks MGS), PING Glides, Vokey Sm6 54° & 58°, Vokey SM8 48°, a Cleveland Zip Core 48° (Thanks MGS). Oh and a Hi-Toe 56° TM wedge. Maybe a few others Out of all of these wedges, I probably liked the BStones the best. They were so buttery, and really opened up my creative side for wedges. I did like the shape of the TM TP’s the best though, with the Cobra’s in a close 2nd. I must be an outlier, but I find Vokey’s to be oddly shaped, so while not out of the running for a spot in the bag, they will be down the list. Really hoping the Mizuno T22 wins this spot, but I’m open to all brands except Callaway, Cleveland, and PXG here. Cleveland because the are just too bulky for my taste. edingc, TR1PTIK, brogies and 2 others

mynerds
Good luck, and looking forward to the review! Where are you getting fitted? Any preview based on the back and forth in the build a bag thread on what you're hoping to end up being fit to? I saw you mention both the one-length forged tech and the JPX Tours. I feel really silly for not having looked into Cobra more seriously before my fitting. I'm not to the point where I can handle the Forged Tech but I did end up fitting into the LTDx irons. I fully expected to end up with Taylormade, Callaway or JPX and the Cobra's were far and away my favorite. If I can be so bold, make sure you check out the Cobra LTDx and LTDx LS since you seem to be most open on the driver. I spent the weekend in a YouTube hole watching reviews of the LTDx line (as I await the arrival of my LTDx MAX) and the reviews of those with swing speeds in your neighborhood was overwhelmingly positive. Plus, as a righty you'd be able to pick from their limited edition alternate paint jobs if specific aesthetics are your thing. @chisag picked up the black edition over in the CHA thread and it looks clean. mackdaddy
I have only one regret from my last fitting. I was worried I had been losing yards to aging. I made the mistake of saying that to my fitter. I didn't notice at the time but all the clubs he gave me during the fitting were stronger lofted. I love the feel of hitting my PXG irons and they are longer than my previous KZG irons. The issue is I have lost my stopping spin. The ball rolls out on all my new irons. It takes to many options off the table for me. I can club up for the yardages or move up a tee box. I can't replicate the control of the ball I had. This week I pulled out my KZG irons and put them back in my bag. The results were very telling. I could attack pins again because the ball just hopped and stopped or spun back a yard or two. I love the feel of the PXG irons but the roll out takes to many shots into the green out of my bag. It is hard to notice on the launch monitor that the ball is rolling out 10-15 feet. I was planning for this purchase to carry me for the next 10 years. I need the less stiff shaft in the PXG irons but I want to go back to my 4 degree gaps and standard lofts at least up to 7 iron. FrogginBullfish
I'm also one who has a strong dislike of offset and big bulky irons. It's why I went with the 0311T irons of the PXG range. I'd rather play a hybrid than a bulky offsetted longer iron, which is why I only went to a 5 iron with my new bag. Sluggo42
Btw, I’m digging the 770’s more and more. Might be partly the Ventus red shafts too, not sure. I think the shafts get me more spin, so it’s enough. The extra 10 yds drops a club from the Hogan Icon blades, so the spin almost equals out. As always, everything depends on how well ya strike it.
