RookieBlue7
Okay, so I'm no Robo, and I'm not cooking the paint off the head of this driver. That said, I have started a new project (to the point of waiting on material to come in so I can finish it up... sucks waiting). Anyway, I started this morning and tinkered with this in intervals throughout the day, mainly because I had other stuff going on too and worked on it tinkering while I could. Here's what I started with (bought here from a WTB ad): I was at the local Wal-Mart last night when I remembered I need to strip the head on this monstrosity. They didn't have any Tal-Strip (my preferred paint eater). So I ended up going with what I was hoping was a similar product. It's simply called Stripper. I'm thinking, hey, $5.87 for a stripper in a can... MAKE IT RAIN!!! The old lady monitoring the self checkout even commented on it when it asked for ID (stripper, need to see ID to prove you're 18 or older, hey, I get it). She says "Wow, what kind of stripper comes in a can that small? A leprechaun? Call the National Enquirer, quick..." Yes, she was a strange old bird. Anyway, I got home last night and had other things on my mind and didn't touch this thing. Today, however, I had a few 15 minute intervals so I figured what better thing to do than start a project you know you can't finish because the material isn't here yet? Makes sense to me, so here I go, with my Tiny Dancer in a can. Set the head up in the little jig I made (see old steel shaft crammed in the ground at a 45 degree angle overhanging the concrete". I sprayed liberally, not really knowing what to expect because this was a product I'm unfamiliar with. I know with Tal-Strip, I spray liberally and watch the paint roll off before my eyes. So me and Mrs. Gold Club's Lexus get down on the G10. I watch, waiting on the paint to start bubbling before my eyes and .... nothing. I just downgraded this stripper to topless only bar caliber. Anyway, I wait 15 minutes and go check it. Nothing again... Okay, this stuff might just be tassles and no in the buff quality stripper. Regardless, I decide to try and see if it's at least softened the paint some, and go to work with a window scraper. It does peel with some effort (and it eats the purple nitrile gloves I'm wearing, making me change 4 or 5 times in the process). I rinse and still have paint left. At this point, I'm frustrated and spray it liberally again and let it sit for 15 more minutes. Put on long sleeves and goggles and go to work with a wire brush. More paint comes off, but not all of it. Yep, this stripper is struggling to make ends meet. It's like old washed up saggy stripper on dollar night, still gets no action. Regardless, I go for the gusto and give it one mre coat and let it sit for 10 minutes. This time, I pull out all the stops and hit it with a red scotch brite. It gets most of the paint off but there are still some spots left. At this point, I give up on this stripper in a can and decide it's just a go-go dancer. I then go to work with some 60 grit (hey, if it ain't rough, it ain't kinky). After some hand sanding, finally all the paint is off.... An hour later, when with Tal-Strip it'd have been literally 5 minutes. Anyway, now that the paint is off, I can begin to mask this thing off. So I get out my trusty green bodywork tape (it leaves crisp lines where regular masking tape can cause problems). Trim some pieces for the contours and go to work replicating Ping's body lines (there's a faint ghosting of where the paint was versus what used to be polished so you can make it out). Finally got it all taped up (those little s-curves at the back fo the crown are a PITA to get right). Anyway, here's where I'm at at this point: I'll update again once my material gets here and I get my spray on. Just figured I could give an in progress post for now, you know to build the suspense. And I know one or two of you know what I'm doing with this, as I've told you about the project. Don't throw a spoiler in here cause it makes it less fun to build suspense... (I'm done so no worries now, copying and pasting from my post elsewhere). I'm finished, and as promised, it's WiLd... Yep, I was inspired by Mr. Watson. So, this is how I Bubba... RoverRick
My wife and I were talking about getting a new golf cart this weekend, (before the gui called and said ours could be fixed for $150 so we will not buy a new one just yet) and she said she wanted a pink one but knew I would not drive a pink one. I told her I would drive a pink golf cart as long as we could put the outline of a Breast Cancer Awareness ribbon on it. I said Bubba has made pink a man's color. This was before he won the Masters. Sant the clear off your current fiberglass shell, prime and paint it pink. (Use an HVLP gun, not rattle can). Should cost around $60 in paint and material max.
