I'm jealous of all the good finds I see at Goodwill in Florida. You guys definitely have a better selection than we do.

True but all RH!!
There are guys who are at the Goodwills every morning at opening to check out recent stocking.  One guy I talked to sells his finds at a weekend Flea Market.

That's an awesome find, especially for that price!

My best find was a set 2-PW of Wilson Staff Fluid Feel irons I picked up for $18 at a ReStore. I did a bit of cleaning up to them and can't believe how well they turned out.

Went to a garage sale in the neighorhood some 10 years ago, and the old guy running it notices that I'm checking a golf bag full clubs, with a few old TM Burner woods. "You look like a golfer to me" he says. I said that I play. We had a 15 minute conversation about different courses in the area, while I looking at everything he has. It was geting late on a Sunday afternoon, and he says he was getting ready to close up. I pulled a ball retriever from the bag, and I say "How much for this" and he says that he really doesn't play all that much, and then he says "tell you what, just take the whole bag, as it might end up in the trash". My daughter was with me, and she was getting antsy to go after all the gabbing, so I said "thats fine". Wished him good night as I loaded the bag in the trunk. So, got home, unloaded the bag, and started going thru it. First was the ball retriever-it was old style with rectangular cage of three pieces of loose metal. Still using it! About 3 Burner Fairway metals in this bag. Found an old rusty Vokey wedge. Going to clean it up one of these days. So, then there is the bag itself. It is a Bennington. Never heard of it before. Looked it up on the web- they are high end bags. Not all leather, but plenty of it on the bag. And the zippers are high quality. Full length dividers, 14 way top. This bag is older, but similar online on their site go for $300, and they go up from there. My Snake Eyes bag was getting a little thin in places, so I am still using the Bennington. The zippers are all intact, and work well. No tears anywhere, and the top dividers holding up well. Also has a putter tube down the side, and that is the only real wear on this bag. My SuperStroke 2.0 is just a hair snug, but fits ok. I look at bags, buy I really like this one. Most of the clubs went to the thrift store, but I am still using these pieces today. I always look when we go to garage sales for golf stuff. This one guy had hickory clubs that were a little rough. I just wanted them to put on the wall, but he wanted way more than I wanted to pay. I might find them one day...

The Wife told me about a garage sale that started today, the kids were still asleep so I decided to go check it out.

I got a Ping 1-A and a Belly Golf B4 Belly putter. I thinks it's $20 well spent.

Only thing I’ve ever bought at a thrift store was this butter knife for $2.

The majority of my bag came from yard sales and thrift stores.  I've got a bit of a problem and have picked up a number of clubs from these places.  Last year I bought a set of Wilson Staff blades with newer Lamkin Crossline jumbo grips (3-SW), plus Austro 11 and 15 woods, and a Nike stand bag for $25 at a garage sale.

Late in the season I got a pair of Titleist SM7s, a 50 and 54, from Goodwill for $2 or $3 each.  Those have been in my bag ever since.

IMG_20220731_125740563.jpg.9093438662e08567415d54f471eb86d3.jpgIMG_20220731_125731461.jpg.021f709dafeb07a7703ddb5a01b82053.jpg

Earlier this year I got a pair of Square Strike chippers and a C3I wedge for $2 each at the local Salvation Army.  I used the wedge for a month or so but not the chippers.

At a garage sale in May I picked up a set of Adams Idea irons 6-PW for $40 and they've been my gamers ever since.  IMG_20220731_125836952.jpg.2612cce204b18001353cb9e24dc609a0.jpgIMG_20220731_125856141.jpg.fb548496c0170fb402d63459413b4cbf.jpg

At a different garage sale the same day I got this Titleist 909H 21° hybrid; it too has been in my bag ever since and has been a money club from day one.  It was $7.

IMG_20220731_125635602.jpg.d3ae0145baf2f67f8877a40ca2a31b13.jpg

I've had a few other decent-to-me finds at thrift stores; a Tour Edge Bazooka 7 wood that is currently in my bag, a Nike Slingshot 4 iron that might replace it, a pair of Tour Edge wedges that were still in the plastic, and a Cleveland 56° that was my sand wedge last season, all for $2 a piece.

I am so excited that I haven't even had the chance to take pictures yet...

I just bought a set of Ben Hogan Apex Blades 3i-9i, plus the equalizer wedge with the Apex 4 shafts plus the 3,4,and 5 woods along with an ogio bag and a bunch of other random clubs and a chainsaw for $32

The guy said these were his first clubs he bought in the 80s and that he was never really able to hit them and they show it... they are in beautiful condition.

Best $1.58 ever spent at AMVETS used golf club emporium.  Ginty 29* Trouble Club designed by Stan Thompson in San Diego mid 1970s and patented the boathull shaped sole influenced by watching powerboats cleaving the waves, he thought a club with such a shape would flow better through tall grass in the rough, and right he was!  If the ball looks in any way difficult to hit with iron I pull out Ginty and get 100+ yards out of the strike.

2112091_Gintyface400h.jpg.277cbabeb74d7a85496160c2849667f3.jpg1873884938_Gintyback(2)400v.jpg.577f90a1df1557f75b444b1ed5ae83b4.jpg

Google it, there's some good reading there.

The Ginty is a CLASSIC.   I have a wooden version that was passed down to me.  I swear the only club that got more use in my Grandpa's bag was the putter!  He would use it off the tee, out of the rocks, off the fairway, chipping around the green... but I never saw him putt with it.  Probably never occurred to him 🤣

Those irons look phenomenal and with a little cleaning, they'll look spectacular. The faces look pristine!

Thank you @sirchunksalot

How would you recommend I clean them? I have read about bar keepers friend and steel wool but honestly there is no rust on them so I am not sure if that is needed. I think I also read about Windex but was a little skeptical of it.

It mostly looks like water stains, no pitting just chatter.

Also, is there a way to try to save the original grips? They are pretty slick and I would hate to have to remove them but I also really want to put them in play lol

I am not really a Hogan expert but they indeed appear to be 71/72 models. Woods would be the same era. Good sticks and those Apex shafts are first class

It mostly looks like water stains, no pitting just chatter.

Also, is there a way to try to save the original grips? They are pretty slick and I would hate to have to remove them but I also really want to put them in play lol

I have never used Windex but have used Bar Keepers friend and a scotchbrite pad or 0000 steel wool. I also use a product called Totally Awesome you can get at Dollar General. That product was reasonabally cheap but I have not bought any for a while because I had 6 gallons left over from doing the outside of my home.

On the grips try some course sand paper then a good washing in Dawn dish soap. If that does not do and you want to hit with out committing to a grip change wrap the grips in the athletic gauze and try that. Personally I am not into the properly restored wall hanging thing I attempt to play my stuff. I also do air install on my grips so I switch grips back and forth and that saves a lot of money over time

You have a great vintage set there!!!   🤩

Bar Keepers Friend for the irons, hot water and cleanser with a scrub brush for the grips.  Although I think you'll need some luck that the grips haven't got too hard to be recovered.  It is fantastic that the shafts aren't showing rust down by the ferrule.

The woods wouldn't be too difficult to restore if you want to get a nice even black finish.  If you don't care about the color and just want to protect the bare wood you could dip them and the re-whip the neck.

I agree with Stu...those Apex shafts were da bomb back in the day.  As far as I know Hogan wouldn't sell just the shafts.  I knew guys that bought a set of Apex irons just to get the shafts to put in other heads.

You're welcome!

I agree with @BIG STU, I would try Bar Keepers friend and 0000 steel wool. I would just make sure you get the BKF that comes premixed in the squeeze bottle and gently rub with the grain of the steel. You'll also want to use a soft cloth after it dries for a couple of minutes to buff it off.

I've also heard white vinegar will work. They say you spray it on and let it set for around 5 minutes then clean it off. I've never tried this and don't have a club to experiment on.
