Tough day at the office

This is my first season playing in almost 10 years. Before the hiatus, I typically shot around 90, could hit the ball pretty straight, short game typically costing me strokes.

I’m back because my 9 year old is taking up the game and we play together. Today, we played 18 and it was a rough outing. Every time I play, I feel like I’m getting worse. Lots of hooks, hitting the ball fat, etc. It’s pretty frustrating.

My son had a tough day, too. We talked about perseverance and today was a good test of that. I enjoyed being on the course with him, just wish I were improving in stead of regressing. Maybe we will stick to Par 3 courses for a while . . .

That's awesome that you and your son are getting into (Or back into, in your case) the game together, there have been a few of us that have made threads about kids or the family getting into the game. 

That being said, you could always look into group lessons that you and your son could do at the same time. I am sure your son would think its pretty cool, you guys working on your games and getting better together. You could also make it into a thread, you both would always have something to look back at and cherish what you did together.

Welcome back to golf and the site. If you have a par 3 course available I’d highly recommend it. 

I coach golf 5th grade through 8th. We do most of our stuff on the local par 3. The kids have fun. 
 

I bet your 9 year old will enjoy it!  Once you get to where you are hitting it well off the tee start hitting it off the turf. 
 

Whatever you do make having fun the number one priority. I did tgat with my boys and they still love to play with dad as 35 year old men.

Wise words. We usually do play a par 3 and it’s been pretty good. Today was more of a chance for dad to hit longer clubs, but it appears he needs to stick to the short sticks, too!

Thanks and good thoughts. Kiddo is in some basic lessons now, but I like the idea of doing the lessons together. Also, love the idea of a thread.
