@Golfspy_CG2 - On the linked page is the "one length" option, but I don't see that as an option in the main post - just wanted to clarify if that was something they'd be willing to do, or if it's strictly the Tec/Tec-X options.

Amazing giveaway!

  • I have been DYING to get my hands on a one-length set, and the minute I saw this hit the market, they've been on my must-try list.  I'm currently in GI irons, and as my game has improved (handicap from 20+ to 12.4), currently and have been looking to make the move to a players distance set-up, and this just checks every box. I chose the steel-fiber because I've had some minor joint issues, and as I'm now in my mid-40s, it's only going to get harder to keep swinging steel around. As for the grips, I have a ShotScope setup, so no need for the Arcos gear.
  • Matt - Santa Clarita, California
  • TaylorMade Sim Max (2020)
  • 12.4
  • And like you could STOP me from posting on the forums, lol. This has become my happy-place.

Assuming one-length are an option, here's my dreamy set-up.  If not, I'm happy to amend to a different set-up.  Thanks to Cobra for getting these into the hands of some lucky member!

I picked this model for two main reasons.

  1. One is that the lofts are most similar to my current set, though they are still a bit different at the shorter end.  For instance, my PW is a 43.5, and have an AW at 46.  But, I think this is workable.  Also, the length composition is more my current playing style, nothing longer than a 6-iron in my bag ATM.
  2. Second reason is that it has a lighter swing weight, whereas the Forged Tec has the same weight as my current clubs.  Why would I change?  The last fitting I went to they recommended a D1 club, so think I may end up benefiting from a lighter swing weight.  Going to another fitting with a different brand later this week, I may ammend my thoughts after the fact...

Morgan/Portland, OR

In the bag are Wilson Staff Di9 6-PW.

Current handicap is 38, down from 42.3 last week.  These clubs may be a bit out of my handicap target group, but think that I'm heading for mid 20's soon.  I generally play well with my Irons and hit them solidly most of the time.  Maybe all of this new technology could help gain a bit more distance and let me know what the club is doing better, therefore allowing me to find new play options.

I would be thrilled to talk about my experience.  Isn't that why we are all here?  To learn from others and share our successes so that others may benefit is why I am here.

  • Explain why you chose the model you did and what you'd hope to get out of them performance wise: Love the look of a players iron along with solid forgiveness. Hoping to get the best of both worlds and have a set that grows with my skill set. As well I always wanted to try out $ taper shafts and would get the chance here since my KBS Tours were not a selectable option.

  • I chose the X model to try and gain a bit of distance in my irons without sacrificing accuracy. I’ve never played a true game improvement set. Irons are the strong part of my game, so my thought is try and amplify them as much as possible.

Thank you Cobra and Thank you MyGolfSpy for this opportunity!

Good luck to all who apply!

  • I chose the Cobra Forged Tec model because first off, it's a very attractive design to my eye. The thinner top line and reduced offset are something that I very much prefer. Contrary to what my handicap suggests ball striking is one of my strong suits and the emphasis of that for this model is exactly what I am looking for to increase distance and playability i.e. shot shaping. In addition to that the material and technology in these irons would be very interesting to compare with my now ~15 year old irons and from what I could tell would be a great fit for me.

  • Chose the Forged Tec X because I don't have any intentions on making the game more difficult than it needs to be. I hit my irons well, but I enjoy having some forgiveness. I'm sure technology has advanced many times since my basic cavity back irons came into existence. I know that the lofts are significantly different from my current set.

  • Explain why you chose the model you did and what you'd hope to get out of them performance wise: I hit a forged tec 7 iron against others in this category, and the flight and distance control seemed great. The x model worries me about consistent distance and I hit it far enough that I don't need the extra help. I hope that they give consistent distance and flight across the set, even on less than perfect strikes (my current irons drop off in distance, spin and trajectory f you don't button them and I would like a little more forgiveness!).

Awesome! Here goes:

  • Explain why you chose the model you did and what you'd hope to get out of them performance wise
    • I'm around a 10 handicap right now, so I probably could've gone with either version, but I decided to go with the KING Forged Tec because I plan on improving into the lower single digits. I'm looking for more consistent flight, but also starting to shape my shots and this model should excel at that.

  • Having tested the MIM Tour irons, these are the most similar in spec (offset, lofts, etc) - Approach is the strongest part of my game but there's certainly always room for improvement. I place a heavy emphasis on consistency of an iron head that leads to less flyers, greater control and improved dispersion patterns. Cobra has proven itself to be a category leader with innovative designs so I look forward to testing this model in particular.
