The old course.

Back a few decades ago I was having a problem getting on the old course. Being in the Navy I had the chance to spend some time in the pig bar with a few locals. To shorten a long long story, after several Glenmorangie's The secret to the old course was revealed. It seems that in the bylaws, as long as you are on the course before 8:00 in the morning when it opened the caretaker would just come by and collect the fees from you as you were on the course. Thus the folks from the Navy with me play the old course. Is this still the case today? Thank you for your input.

I really don't know, I'm I guessing, but since that was "decades ago" and the popularity of golf has grown .. a lot .. my guess would be no. I believe reservations .. regardless of any special status .. must be secured weeks ahead of time?
