What fund's your golf habbit?

Jmikecpa

Recommended Posts

Thought it would be cool to see what we all did for a living to fund our golf habbits. I am a CPA by trade (hence my screen name) and after 12 years in the asset management field as an external audit manager and currency trader I decided to venture into a completely new field of casino gaming. My current role is the Director of Finance for a casino that was just opened in NYC and have been here for over a year now. It has been pretty rewarding to see the project from inception to birth (I was employee #9) and now that we are open I get the challenge of running the property and hopefully preparing for some more growth and development in NY and in other parts of the country. The biggest downside is the job that pays for my golf habbit also keeps me from playing nearly as much as I used to with some of my other jobs. I got to play a whopping five rounds last year which was a good week for me in prior years.

I play golf for money, and my wife works. :D

I am a male model. Perhaps you have seen my work, if you have seen the evolutionary chart I am third from the left.

I own some patents and design machinery and systems that are built in Europe and have an interest in the factory. It is not near as interesting as it sounds, golf is more fun.

I manage a few phone switches for a communications company in the midwest. My company was just sold and the first thing the new company wants to do is get rid of all my stuff, so my golf funds may be running short. I'm ready to move on to bigger better things though, so I won't be to heart broken (my wife might be a little upset though). If I do get canned, I'll probably be heading back to Indianapolis, so I'll get back on some better courses.

I am the National Sales Manager (which doesn't begin to describe all I do) for a Clothing Brand House. We own a couple different Brands that we sell to stores all over the country. In the past, this has been mostly urban, but now it's suburban and skate/surf hip kid driven. Economy crushed us once, we went bankrupt, but we started a new company about 8 months ago and we are still around with our head above water....not many can say that in our business these days.

The economy is just flat out brutal right now. I left a job as a Director of Financial Reporting for a Fortune 100 company to go back into the asset management field with a pension fund and two days after I started Bear Stearns went belly up and then a month or so later Lehman went under. It made my life in that business almost unbearable and trying to make any return in the market was almost impossible. It got to the point that I left the company and moved into my current role and moved my wife and children from an area that we really enjoyed living in for a better work environment and more opportunity. I count myself as fortunate that I was never without work during this rough patch.

I'm a certified personal coach with GolfTEC, I teach and tutor (primarily test prep these days), and I'm a part-time woodworker.

Hey Matt, Chris here.

Mind if I pick your brain a bit about GolfTEC? I live in Calgary, AB Canada and understand you guys are opening up shop here. Any idea when? Know you might not know anything about it, but thought I'd try.

Thanks.

I'm a high school Biology teacher... almost exclusively to 9th graders...

Plus it's in a pretty bad part of town where we have a 45-50% drop out rate... Now the government wants to start evaluating teachers on how well their students do... Kinda sucks, especially when the start asking why did Daquan and LaMike fail? It must be because I'm a bad teacher. They don't care that Daquan got shot just above the heart and spent 5 months in the hospital, and LaMike shot 5 times into a crowd at a football game and spent the year in jail... but, yea, it's the teachers fault... Oh, Andrew gets beat weekly by his father, and is living at a different friends house every week. Don't blame the parents, it must be his teachers fault...

Sorry, that kind of turned into a rant...

I own a photography company with my wife.

We focus on weddings and portraits.

In the past I pursued professional mountain biking and bike trials, as well as worked as a writer and photographer for a newspaper.

Being a small business owners means that I work 7 days a week, but also means I can take off and golf quite regularly as well.

I'd spend more of my money on golf, but thankfully my wife has her head on her shoulders and is in charge of our finances ;-)

Feel free to ask anything you'd like about GolfTEC. If you'd prefer to do so via PM or email (golfspy_matt@mygolfspy.com) that would be fine too.

I do believe that the Calgary center is opening very soon. In fact, I went through training with one of the coaches who will be there, Ken Brown. If you get the chance, check him out and say hi for me. Ken is a super good guy.

A case of even the government finds it easier to lay blame, then develop the social programs or infrastructure needed to really change young families/kids futures. Teachers are underpaid.

We love to blame teachers and society, but everyone's personalities, manners, sense of right and wrong start at home with their parents, PERIOD!

Excellent, thanks.

My clubs have about one more season in them, and then I want to step up, possibly forged cb's. GolfTEC supposed to set me up with what I should be gaming, decent price hopefully. Not quite ready for Miura's yet..

I am a Healthcare Accountant. I have been a Hospital CFO (back in the day when Humana owned hospitals). I have over 30 years in Healthcare Finance. For the past 7 years, (anniversary was yesterday) I have prepared Medicare and Medicaid Cost Reports for Skilled Nursing Facilities(SNF's). While there will always be a need for someone who can prepare & file cost reports, I am now on the third owner in 7 years for our small 50 person consulting group. Every other year another bigger company buys the previous owner so we get the speech about better benefits.......and then we get the one how there will be no raises this year. I am grateful that I can pursue a profession that allows me to use my keen analytical skills to help others.

I also run a 75+ member Golf Ass'n that has a game every Saturday, all year long....(Tampa Bay Area).

I have played golf for over 52 years and hope to continue for many more.

So YOU'RE the guy who never pays the damn bills!!!!

I am a sales rep for a company that provides mechanical seals, pump rebuilds, boiler gaskets and refractory and ancilliary products to industry, institutions, and meduim-to-large facility management operations. I was teasing Foz because (some) hospitals are somewhat notorious for rather lenghty A/P cycles.

I'm in the tobacco business. Thank goodness not the cigarette side anymore.

Now I'm working for a small company selling cigar wraps.

Allows me to play golf on a regular basis, and the owner is usally right beside me on the course!!

And most of the time he picks up the tab!
