Quigleyd
Just finished listening to this. While I do agree that the notion of "aim small miss small" is a bit false. I have also seen that blades can for the right person be better. Personally, I play blades currently. I don't really miss the center of the face, but that does not mean I always hit the ball straight. Also, considering it is my money, I will spend it on what I like and play what I like, and find enjoyment in the game with it. I have played cavity backs, and probably will again. Right now, the Mizuno blades I am players are just fine. I really do not think I would play "better" playing something else. cnosil
There are a bunch of threads about will hitting blades make you a better ball striker and I didn’t want to creat another topic so I’ll just drop this here. TylorJudd
That was a great article, if anything, I like how you can use them as a feedback tool. I am going to try a set of "blades", not true blades but very far from GI. One could get a lot of useful information about their ball striking just from that Itzpiiz 1 Quote I like golf. Read an article on Plugged In Golf on that topic today and thought he had some great points on the topic https://pluggedingolf.com/do-blades-make-you-a-better-ball-striker/ That was a great article, as I've been thinking about moving back to blades anyways (currently game Titleist CBs) There is another thought about blades vs. GI/SGI that I haven't seen brought up in awhile. Is that classic blades/forged clubs actually have a bigger sweet spot RELATIVE to the size of the face than those GI irons. Yes, your off center hits with the GI will go further, and you can get away with those toe or fat shots that you can't with a blade. However, when you are finding the center of the face with a blade your shots can actually fly further and straighter. Perhaps this is an underlying peice of the puzzle as to why blades can make someone a better ball striker. I've toyed with the idea that my GI are just slightly to big of a head and that I need to go a touch smaller for this particular reason! RickyBobby_PR
What really doesn’t get talked about a lot is vcog and how that can affect how a club works for a golfer. Its something I’m not 100% knowledgeable on due to not reading too much on it and really only read about it in discussions on wrx. Jbreck10
Personally,I play blades (Hogan Icon irons) and have been playing blade or muscle back irons for the last decade. I just prefer the look, shape and most importantly the turf interaction. I love the v sole of icon irons and it just fits my swing. I’ve toyed with going down the GI route lately and tested quite a few irons. but through all my testing, it has reaffirmed that the clubs I currently use are the right ones for me. It has also shown me that turf interaction is a really underrated part of the club fitting process.
