This came up in another theead and i thought it could be interesting...

If you were a pro which tournament would you most want to win ?

My choice would be the British Open.  The history, links style courses, the weather, the creativity needed, the most knowledgeable fans.... I like it the best of the majors.

As I said in the other thread it’s The Open championship.

The Masters is next line because it comes with lifetime exemption to the event, champions dinner every year and lots of other perks. Watch all the media attention and sponsorships that come from winning a green jacket.

The US Open after that because very golfer wants to win the Open championship of their country

Masters for me, please.

Driver: Taylor Made Stealth 2 10.5 Diamana S plus 60  R flex   - 44.25

Fairways:  Ping G410 5, 7, 9 wood  Alta CB red 65 R flex

Hybrid:  Ping G410  26 degree  Alta CB Red 70 R flex

Irons: Ping G430  7-PW, 45, 50 Alta CB black 65 soft R flex

Wedges:  Ping 195 S54, E58

Wedges and irons are - 1/2” and one degree flat

Putter: Sacks Parente Duke 32.5”

Ball: Titleist Pro VI or Callaway Chrome Soft X ls

While not at the same time I was fit for every club in my bag as well as the Pro VI ball. I use the chrome soft x ls on my league course.  It has much softer softer greens than the club that I belong to.

I’m on a mission to shoot my age - lifetime lowest round is 66 and I’m currently 67.

For me, winning The Open or the US Open would be the one that I would cherish the most.  You're competing against the best in both the amateur and professional sport.

As a fan talking about it, I have to say the Masters.  Its always been my favorite.  It marks the beginning pf spring and the golf season for me.  Just all the ceremony and tradition.  And it can be argued that the best of the best compete there.  With a fan's mindset that's where I would want to hoist the trophy.

That said if I were a pro who had worked my entire life to reach the apex of golf, then it would be the US Open I think.  Its my nation's championship.  It can be argued that its  golf's most strict test - no disrespect to the The Open Championship.

What's so special with the green jacket and why only green? Is that a symbol for something I don't know

I agree with what actual pros say (in same order)...

Quote

Player Preferences (based on a Sports Illustrated survey in April that asked 50 pros: “Which major would you most like to win?”):

1. Masters 50%

2. British Open 25%

3. U.S. Open 23%

4. PGA Championship 2%

... The Open Championship. Everything about it screams GOLF. I love how it isn't fair at all and for one round it might possibly not reward the best player, but over 4 rounds it evens out and dealing with bad breaks is part of the mental game. Love that most bunkers are actually hazards and strategically avoided where the other Majors players actually aim for the bunker. It rewards all aspects of the game so a player that is outstanding at any one aspect doesn't have an advantage. Too often it takes a really skilled putter to win the Masters and US Open but even an average putter can win The Open.
