Going from 104 gram steel to 64 gram grafit shafts... What to consider...

Recommended Posts

Hej. Im planning to go from 104 steel iron shafts to 64 gram grafits shafts.

I`ll expect some change in swing weight, due to the overall weight change.

ill be okay to goo a couple of point down in swing weight, but is there a way to control it, some formular or likewise, so i can built them, with out just try and try aging.. ?

im going from stiff steel to reg grafits, due to age and a bit slower swing speed at the moment..

I will do the tip trimming according to manefactor specs..

all shafts are extended 1 inch

Now Ping I500, Ping AWT 2.0

Next : Ping I500, Recoil ESX 460 F3  :O)

I would probably do just one club to begin with, 7 or 8 iron, and see what tweaks would be needed to make it playable for me before building the rest of the set.

Unlike some here, I don't believe in getting fitted for everyone all the time, but yours is a case where a fitting would be money well spent. That's a radical change, not one I'd make without guidance - and not a free fitting at big box store unless you know/trust someone. I insisted on a fitting going from 105 gram steel stiff to 95 gram graphite regular with my irons - I wouldn't consider 104g steel S to 64g graphite R without guidance, but do as you see fit.

Yes, I agree.  I went from 98g (AWT steel) to 80g (MMT's) and noticed it.  Aside from the OP's rather significant change is shaft weight, I also think anyone moving from steel into graphite would be wise to get fitted if possible.  I personally found BIG differences in shaft feel and performance testing composites - much less dramatic than when I tested various steel shafts prior to moving into graphite.

along with Swing weight the feel will be completely different as you are leaving steel and going to graphite. The feel will be muted. not bad just different

Driver - 44.5" 5.0 flex 10.5 deg Graphite Design XC 6S GP MCC4+ 1 deg closed

Irons - 5-pw, GW stnd length 5.0 flex same grip 1 deg flat. Type low medium offset cavity back, no diggers

Wedges - 56 and 60 tour grind wedge spinner and mcc4+ grip 2 flat 10 and 8 in bounce

Putter - Makefield VS LH

Ball - truvis

Carried in a Sun Mountain C-130 USA bag - BE PROUD.

HC - LH but 85 is a good number, playing in Ohio.
