Week 1 FINAL

Message added by GolfSpy TCB,

For those that may need to calculate your course handicap, here is a helpful link to the USGA Course Handicap Calculator.

https://www.usga.org/course-handicap-calculator.html

And another site that calculate the course handicap as well as your Handicap Index based on the last 20 scores posted including the slope and rating for each course played.

https://www.calculator.net/golf-handicap-calculator.html

I hope these are helpful.

@Bang60, we would accept two 9 hole scores for your 18 hole entry. As long as they are both within the posting week (Monday - Sunday) 🙂

That is a GREAT score Foz.  I should have been more clear, that the first week of competition is intended to begin for rounds played starting tomorrow.  My round from today was used as an example on how to post scores and what the leaderboard will look like. Sorry for the confusion.

This is an AWESOME idea.  Quick question:  if you play more than one round per week (unlikely, in my case, but a guy can dream), do you only keep the best score?

I was expecting this question Samson! haha.

Two scenarios in my mind... one is... you play a round early in the week and post it.. then you play again later in the week, and would rather use that to post.  Second scenario is... you play more than one round during the week, and wait until you are finished playing to post.  In both cases, the end result would be the same... the better of the rounds would be used for the week's leaderboard.

So to answer your question, we can support posting multiple rounds during the week, but the latest one would be used as the 'official' scoring.  Or if you prefer... you can wait to make your post at the end of the week... just be sure to get it in by Sunday night!

VIRTUAL WEEKLY MYGOLFSPY FORUM GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP

Week 1 Kick Off - September 26 - October 2

Let's get our Competition ON!!

Up for grabs is a Coveted MGS Badge for the weekly Winner!

Rules to entry:

Each week, play one round of 18 holes as your tournament entry.  Because we at the MGS Forum are all HONORABLE people, and in keeping with the traditions of this great game of Golf... this is an Honor System

Using your handicap index (USGA/GHIN, or other equivalent means such as Diablogolf.com), calculate your "Course Handicap".  In this thread, post your Course Handicap, your 18 hole score, and your score to par.  Your weekly standing will be your "Score to Par" less your "Course Handicap".  The weekly winner will have the lowest net score based on your handicap.

Feel free to add pictures, graphics or detailed description to recount your rounds - similar to the "How'd You Play" thread - this is a forum after all.

For Example, My handicap index is currently 4.6.

image.png

With my course's slope and rating, that equates to a Course Handicap of 5.

image.png

Today, I shot 37/38 = 75 gross or +3 to par.  Less my course handicap of 5 - my tournament score is -2 net (2 under par).

Additionally, we will award a Weekly Badge for Most Net Birdies and Longest Drive.  Again - this is an honor system - and some good natured fun to compete weekly against your fellow forum members 🙂 .

In the example round above, I carded 4 net birdies or better... and my longest drive was a wind aided and hard pan rolling 270.

Any round during the week starting Monday and ending Sunday can be used, as long as it is posted by Sunday midnight.  We will post the leaderboard for the Weekly Net Champion, Most Birdies Champion and Longest Drive Champion each Monday following the competition week.

image.png

Let's have some fun and see who has bragging rights on the forum each week.  We will also keep track of the results each week and post YTD points leaders as we move through the Virtual "Season".

Hope to see you all on the E-Course. 🙂

My index is not calculated by any approved system; I don't play in any comps that require it anymore.  I keep all of my scorecards (well, my wife does) and calculate my own index using the USGA system.  Per the rules... am I not qualified?

We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”

Some weeks at my club we only play the front Nine, it depends on how many visitors etc.

Problem? I've played the 1st nine 4 times some weeks, I've complained but they don't listen to me lol...

I’m a hacker who loves nothing more than to change how I play, be that grips shafts and heads its all fair game lol…

Honor system Kenny.  Not trying to exclude anyone, just hoping to find a level playing field for us all to have a little friendly competition 🙂

Not a problem, You can just use your full 18 course handicap and apply the number of strokes on that 9 based on the hole by hole handicapping.  That would be how you would calculate your net birdies as well.

For example, if your course handicap is 22, then you would get 11 strokes for each 9 played.

If you have questions on how to score your round, you can post your scorecard(s) and I can walk through it with you 🙂

Thanks!  Are you providing the table for us to input our data?  I'm assuming that net birdies or better are Par or better on the number of hardest holes equal to our course handicap.

I don't currently have a form/table... partially because we want to encourage members to post into the forum thread, rather than submit a form - so we can have as much interaction as possible - you know virtual banter ;).  We'll look at potential options for that as we move forward, but for now a thread post will get your info to me so I can compile it. 🙂 .

You are correct - net birdies or better are calculated using the highest handicap holes up to your course handicap - par or better on holes where you get a stroke.

Whew, 'cuz my score today stunk.  Not that I'd come close to winning this tournament anyway.  Also out of town with no chance to play for at least a couple of weeks in the season, so not able to net many scores.  What the heck, I'll play anyway!

You should be able to figure out the course handicap for most short/half courses.  A lot are published, and some apps will tell you your WHS course handicap for the day based on the tees and holes you are playing.  I know The Grint does, not sure about others.  The pro shop should also have charts.

Fantastic idea!

To confirm, does it have to be the same home course week to week … or can the course played be different?

I don't currently have a form/table... partially because we want to encourage members to post into the forum thread, rather than submit a form - so we can have as much interaction as possible - you know virtual banter ;).  We'll look at potential options for that as we move forward, but for now a thread post will get your info to me so I can compile it. 🙂 .

You are correct - net birdies or better are calculated using the highest handicap holes up to your course handicap - par or better on holes where you get a stroke.

Why not just create a template on here so all we have to do is reply to you with the info filled in (I added an additional item):

Name:

Course HDCP:

O/(U):

Net to par:

Net score:

Net birdies or better:

Longest drive:

Closest to the pin:

Thanks Mike, Different courses is great, as long as you use each courses slope and rating to get your relevant course handicap.

You're Hired Gary!!  🙂

That would certainly work as the post format.  I was thinking along the lines of a application add on template, that could also help compile the data ont he back end... but that would take away from the conversation "in-thread".  Still thinking about that... your list above works just fine in the meantime.  KP is an interesting one, though there is some variability from course to course on the length and difficulty of pin placements... for example... one courses par 3 might be 105, where another course (like mine) are all 165+... not opposed to it, just harder to make it a level test across all players at different sites..  That being said... anyone living in Colorado will have an advantage on the LD category 😉

Whatever makes it easiest for you, as having to re-enter data could become a bit taxing.  Scores can still be posted in a thread to promote discussion.

I sincerely hope I'm overwhelmed with entries each week, that is a good problem to have 🙂
