Ok, so please let me know if I’m doing this wrong. 
Played Angel Park Palm course here in Vegas. It’s a Par 70 @ 6400 yards with a rating /slope of 69.8/125. I’m a 19 handicap and shot a 91. 
91-19=72 so I shot 2 over? I’m not sure what the rating/slope are for. How do I find/figure out the course handicap?

Course handicap will be -

your handicap x (course slope ÷ 113) 

so in this instance 

19 x (125/113) = 21.01 (you always round to nearest whole number) 

so course handicap of 21. 
If you shot 91 - 21 = 70 so you shot par.

You’ll also want to calculate net birdies.  Prior post shows a course handicap of 21 which means you get a stroke on every hole and 2 strokes on the 3 hardest handicap holes (pretty sure that is right ).  Looking at hole 1 you got bogey but since it is the 3rd handicap hole you get 2 stroke so net birdie on that hole.   Since you score par on 4, with the stroke that is net birdie.  I didn’t look up all the hole handicaps, but with 3 pars that is 3 net birdies.

@PeterHenric Badgergolf is correct in the calculation if your Handicap INDEX is 19.  Where did you derive the handicap you used?

Pretty sure since 2020 that the calculation is...

19 x (125/113) + (Course Rating -Par) =  21

Still equals 21 for this set of tees, but Course Handicap could be significantly different with a lower Course rating.

good catch Kenny.  I agree with your calc and comment on needing to use the rating as part of it.  Missed that in the original post.

I have used an app called Golf Pad GPS for all of my golf and shot tracking for the last several years. I always keep track of penalties and accurate shots/putts. In the app it told me that my handicap was 19.

Sounds good, just wanted to be sure it wasn't already calculating your course cap .  I have your score added to the leaderboard.  If you let me know the net birdies you had, and longest drive if you tracked that, I'll update the leaderboard.  Thanks for posting your score!

Thank you for the info. In an effort for me to understand a little better, if I was a handicap 25 would I get one stroke on every hole and then two strokes on the seven hardest holes? Also, if I was a handicap 12 would I only get 12 strokes total with no extra strokes on any of them? Further, with those 12 strokes only be applied on the 12 hardest halls of the course?

It does... this is where the handicap index (which is different than just your over/under score) and the course slope and rating come into play.  Since you have your rounds tracked, you could use the second link I posted above to enter each of your last 20 scores, and the slope and rating for each round at the course(s) you played, and it will calculate your index.  It may be the same as your app is calculating, but a good cross check, and pretty easy to enter if you have the data.

As an example...  let's say your handicap on a par 70 course based on your index and the courses slope and rating comes out to 21.  If you were to play a course that is a par 72, the slope and rating calculation would account for that (and the difference in general course difficulty compared to the Par 70 course) and your course handicap would be adjusted.  All things being equal in theory other than the par ... your course handicap would be 23 on the par 72 course.  

That is over simplifying it a bit, but hopefully that helps.

Yep.   And going further, if you were a + handicap, you would start adding strokes to your scores.   The goal is to get everyone on a level playing field and make high and low handicappers scores be more equal.

Really excited to post my round tomorrow... Just hope it doesn't rain too much. It is a long enough course the best of days and when it is wet it makes it that much worse!

I did play from the championship tees this time around so the 125 was applicable.

Yes the slope and rating is different for each set of tees on a course.  The course handicap is adjusted based on the tees played (due to the difference in slope/rating).  Your course handicap will be higher by playing from the longer tees, but so will your competitors.  @cnosil mentioned this in a previous post... the whole purpose of the handicapping system (and how index, slope and rating play into it) is to provide a method for all golfers of any skill level to compete against each other on a net score level.  

As far as advantage for your match based on the tees?  That is a more subjective discussion... but I wish you and your partner good luck and great golf in the match!

9/27 shot 77 at Ravenwood Golf Club.  

My handicap at that course from the Black tees is 6.  My net score was 71. 

I shot +5 Gross

I shot -1 Net

My longest drive was on hole 6 (334 yards)

Net Birdies 1 (Hole 17)

Net Eagles 2 (Holes 9 & 12)

I'm sorry to hear about your struggle on the 18th KoN.... 

For turning in your score for handicap purposes (i.e. GHIN), you are allowed ESC, but full actual scores should be turned in for the tournament scoring.

That was just hypothetically speaking/typing, but I've definitely had double digit scores on that hole.  But I definitely do get strokes here and there from ESC.  Thanks, I'll likely enter something next week
