Week 1 FINAL

Message added by GolfSpy TCB,

For those that may need to calculate your course handicap, here is a helpful link to the USGA Course Handicap Calculator.

https://www.usga.org/course-handicap-calculator.html

And another site that calculate the course handicap as well as your Handicap Index based on the last 20 scores posted including the slope and rating for each course played.

https://www.calculator.net/golf-handicap-calculator.html

I hope these are helpful.

I didn't add a long drive as it would be a guess. The only one I know of for sure was #5.  I was just past pin high but left about 20 yards. I think it was 275 to the middle, the pin was a little forward of that.

We had 59 players Saturday, a new game record.

You must have finished pretty good in your group of 59 Foz with a net par score!

I have no Idea is the reason I posted the card. I am not sure what holes I would get dots on.

As a 17 handicap, you would get a stroke on all the handicap holes 1 though 17.  The only one you don't get a pop, is the par 3 14th.  So basically any hole you scored a par of better (except the 14th hole - par is net par on that one, but a natural birdie is still a birdie 🙂 ).   - you would get a net birdie.  You had a net eagle on the 4th hole... a natural birdie with a pop 🙂

Glad you were able to get out and play at least once.  What course were you at.  Were those 4 birdies natural?  what was your net birdie count?

Ok, hoping I get this correct......

Played Reynolds Lake Oconee Preserve (or RLO Preserve if that’s easier), par 72

My hdcp is 11.3 but course hdcp from the tees I played is 9 (so only get 1 stroke for 9 hardest holes, correct?)

Score: 80     Netscore: 71    Net to par: -1    net birdies: 3  longest drive: 264

Haven’t played in a few weeks, but have had a number of range sessions.  Struggling with what I believe is long Covid.  Had covid mid July, recovered, then 6 wks later suddenly struggled with dry eye ranging from moderately bad (on a good day) to almost devastating.  Today was modbad, a bit windy and a lot of tearing and blurry vision.  Mid round wind was dying down, and focus became much better so shot 42/38.

Fourth hole pushed approach to the tight of the green and a bit long and buried in Bermuda rough. Hit one of my best shots, hit fringe of green, very slowly rolled downhill an inch from the hole, and rolled, rolled, rolled off the green. Chipped back up pin high a foot to the left, then rolled back off the green. Ended up with a 6.  Have never seen anything like it. But all in all, was a very good day with 10 pars, 1 birdie, 12/14 FIRs, 7 GIRs.

I was lucky enough to get a few rounds in over the weekend.  My play was pretty solid.. until today when all the wheels came off my game.  Since it was the Member/Guest at my club, I did a mini tour of courses in the area before going back "home" today... Maybe I should have stayed away!  haha.

9/29 - Memorial Park GC - Blue Tees

  • Course Handicap = 7
  • Par 72 / Gross 83 / Net 76
  • Net Score to Par = +4
  • Net Birdies = 3
  • Longest Drive = 262

9/30 - Sweetwater CC - White Tees

  • Course Handicap = 6
  • Par 71 / Gross 77 / Net 71
  • Net Score to par = Even
  • Net Birdies = 4
  • Longest Drive = 272

10/2 - Willow Fork CC - White Tees

  • Course Handicap = 5
  • Par 72 / Gross 88 / Net 83 😱
  • Net score to par = +11
  • Net Birdies = 1
  • Longest Drive = 258

This is why I love and hate golf. +4, Even, +11 all in one week. Talk about a rollercoaster of emotions.

Looks like you have it correct... you get a stroke on handicap holes 1 through 9.  Played pretty well in light of you still struggling with Covid.. Hope you get past it soon!!  Sounds like you were automatic from the tees today... good round Gary.

You have that right.  Today it was pretty difficult to keep my mental zen... need more clearing my mind of the bad shots... but when they came as fast and furious as they did today... hard to work from a clean slate.

One of my group in the post round review aske me how I took a 9 on the #4 par 5.  I told him I pulled my 4 footer for an 8.  😉

Yes, thank you.  To be clear, I don’t test positive to Covid but when I had in July, it kind of kicked my butt for a few days and at the time settled upper sinus and behind my eyes.  Never gave it a second thought at the time until I started to feel very unusual eye issues 6 weeks later, and it’s been ongoing for a month now. Felt great to be back on the course today ⛳

Nice Round DoP!  I want to hear more about that sandy birdie!!

So your birdie count.. is that natural, or net birdies count?

That birdie count is natural. I had 3 Net Birdies.

The natural sandy bird was on #10. As you can see it is a very short par 4, but that huge bunker protects the green. Normally I hit like a 5i & flip wedge, but I decided to challenge the bunker. I hit 3 wood and almost cleared it, but got caught in the top right corner. The green sloped  severly away from me to the left, but I had a lot to work with. I just hit a solid shot and got lucky that it took the slope and ran out of gas about a foot past the pin for a tap in.

It was actually Friday.... You are too young to be losing time 😉

My handicap is not USGA compliant, so I won't bother with the details, except to say I birdied the same hole by sinking a 15-20 foot putt before he could tap in.

We played from the tips, which didn't make the course too terribly long, but it did mean I was hitting a hybrid on 4 of the 5 par 3's.

Nice Round DoP!  I want to hear more about that sandy birdie!!

So your birdie count.. is that natural, or net birdies count?

Maybe I missed this.  Are we counting natural birdies as Net birdies on holes we don't get a stroke?

We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”

Well... yes.  A natural birdie on a hole with no stroke is still a net birdie (the net just is the same as the actual score).  Sorry if that wasn't clear in my original outline.

By posting the net, it levels the playing ground for all players... Someone with a scratch handicap won't have any pops, but they can still count any natural birdies or better they have... just as a player with 18 strokes can count any natural par or better they may have as those would be net birdies or pars.

But you don't get to count a natural birdie on a hole with a pop twice 😉

I would assume so.  Birdie - 0 = Birdie in my book.

Don't like my chances of keeping that level of play up now I'm back to work and only weekly rounds. Won't stop me from keeping with this.

  • 2 weeks later...

So my first card, not sure I've got the numbers right or it's creative accounting lol. I got some numbers but missing some as well, been along time since I worked out the results from social tournaments I was involved running. Ok so 2 nett birdies 4pars and 3bogey, @Golfspy_TCB if you would be so kind to correct my input I'll learn how to do better. Cheers Colin...
