tony@CIC
We're not leaving for our Tampa condo til this Saturday, but like @fozcycleour place is located in Zone E so we don't have to worry about storm surges or rivers flooding. On the other hand the rain... that'll be monumental almost 16" over three days (see pic below). Hope @revkevand his family are in a safe location. Our thoughts and prayers for those in more precarious situations. p.s. how ironic that we chose to buy a place on the gulf side vs east coast because it was less hurricane prone. Golf2Much
Here in Key West we're hoping we dodged a bullet. Like in many hurricanes we've had, it's the storm surge that causes the most damage. With Ian slowing down, we'll likely it will be due West of us with wind and rain for our next high tide at 11:30pm. It's a king tide to boot. Good luck Ft. Myers and Naples. We'll be keeping our fingers crossed for you! We use to winter in Key Colony Beach (Marathon) which was almost completely wiped out in the last hurricane in the Keys. It certainly is! We stayed for Irma in 2017. No power for eight plus days. No water for four or so and then only for a couple of hours a day. Key West was lucky for that one too as it hit just up the road in Big Pine. Two weeks after Irma we traveled to Tampa to rescue a beagle we were adopting. We heard all the reports and thought we were prepared. All the way up the Keys it was one disaster zone after another. There were miles of destroyed appliances along the road. Houses off their foundations or collapsed on itself. It was a very sobering ride! Golf2Much
Key West made it through the night as Ian slowly passed by us. With the wind and rain, we expect some trees to be uprooted and branches down. However, as with many hurricanes, the real damage is from the water surge and high tides. Many of our friends woke with 2-4 inches of water in their bedrooms. Just to give you a sense of how bad the surge and king tides can be, this is a picture from a friend's house during last night's high tide. This was taken just a few blocks from where we used to live. Thank God we're on higher ground now. The damage here is from Ian just grazing us (got within 70 miles as a Cat 3). Thoughts and prayers to those between Ft. Myers and Tampa where it's expected to make landfall as a potential Cat 5. Inland, Orlando is expecting wind gusts up to 70 mph and there's talk about Ian exiting on Florida's east coast, gaining strength and hitting the Carolinas. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for all of you in Ian's path. Edited September 28, 2022 by Golf2Much resize picture. Golf2Much
Here in Key West Hurricane Ian left flooded homes and cars, downed trees and other damage. For the most part, what was lost were things that can and will be replaced. Looking at coverage of Ian's devastation over the last 24 hours or so, it's not surprising that that hundreds of lives may have been lost. Unfortunately, those victims cannot be replaced. My heart aches for all of those who lost family and friends from Ian's impact. Here's hoping that forum members, family and friends in Ian's path are and will remain safe. Larryd3
We were very fortunate here in Oldsmar, (little north of Clearwater) no damage in our area that I've seen other than tree limbs. Still really windy today so will hold off putting things back outside until tomorrow. So very sorry for the folks in the Naples, Ft Myers area, they got the brunt of Ian. Heard from @revkevlast evening and they were doing fine in St Pete. alfriday101
Yesterday afternoon was a bit surreal. I played golf with my next door neighbor on a beautiful, sunny day in Iowa. He owns a winter home in the Fort Meyers area. The radar showed the eye wall close or going over his place. He was glad to play golf as a way to take his mind off the storm. We still don’t know what, if any, damage there was to the house. Kenny B, Rickp and MattF

revkev
Sorry guys - We lost internet for a few days But no significant damage to our property. Thankfully - I’ve been dealing with several none hurricane related issues amongst congregants and also assisting a couple of people who did experience significant home damage from downed trees. Finally got my wife and daughter home - they had evacuated - their trip back from the East Coast was a nightmare. I did hear from sportsman who is a less active MGSer in Port Charlotte - he got hit pretty bad but his house is structurally in tact.
