I understand Badger... stay tuned, the Mod Team is working on a SIM competition for the "offseason" which should be a blast.

This will be fun, I'm going to try get out next week but offseason in the SIM will be really cool. Can pick the same course for everyone to play each week or something.

May I suggest a "Thanks for coming out" award? It would be given to the person in last place each week.  We always appreciate honesty and participation.

Hopefully tomorrow!

In all seriousness, I do think it would be in good fun for something like that. It's the award that no one wants but it's an award nonetheless.

I shared this story in the How Did You Play, but it is worth repeating. I have started playing with a guy who just started playing in August and caught the bug hard! We played 18 today at a tough course and because he can hit pretty long he joined us from the Whites (back tees). We played with another guy who was a 24 or so hdcp. It was a good litmus test for him. Anyway the first 7 or 8 holes were pretty good. Of course some horrific shots, but thats golf. The middle holes were a struggle with big curves on his shots, however come 17 and 18 he put it together and made a good bogey on 17 and made his first ever big boy birdie on 18. It's golf, its tough and sucks a lot of the time, but those small good shots and holes keep us coming back for more! (found out he went to his home course and range for 2 hours after to work on his game... guy is all in!)

Edit: @Golfspy_TCB I had 4 Net birdies, not 6 sorry! I should have been more clear. Popped on 2 and had 2 other natural birdies.

A much better round today, though I feel like I could have done much better.  Hit driver too many times when I had no business doing so.  Lots of unfortunate branches jumping out in front of the ball. Duffs.  Showing up late and feeling rushed.  Freshly punched and sanded greens that were basically beaches.  Like, they didn't drag them at all after dumping the sand.

Still, thanks to PeterHenric for holding the anchor this week!  Look at my score last week, you didn't do too bad.

Rose City Golf Course
CH: 37
Par:72
Actual - 111, Net - 74 (+2)

I have one tracked as 249, but I sliced it so bad I think it ran out to the street, couldn't find it.  I dropped it where I thought it should be, but I don't think that counts.

Yes, 'tis the season for punched greens.  Still - good playing Mr. M!!  Rose City is a challenging track.

As much fun as being on top of the leaderboard is, I am a bit nervous of being knocked out of it. However really hoping we see some more rounds! I won't be playing till next week, but hope we see some weekend rounds get submitted! ... Would love to be the first Mod to win a week!

The course is very difficult because of all of the big trees. It literally just reopened after being closed down for receding so all the grass was grown in kind of patchy, and the greens were in very good shape, but needed to be mowed so they were very slow. None of that was contributing to why I had such a poor score other than all of those stupid trees.

I have 1/2 a round on the books for this week.  I will most likely play 27 either tomorrow or Sunday if the kids want to go out and drive me around the course in the afternoons.  So I should be able to post the 2nd half before the week ends.  I have my MGA weekly event tomorrow and my standing game on Sunday morning, so that gives me 2 1/2 chances to creep up the leaderboard to try an knock @GolfSpy_APH off his perch 😉 .

Hope all y'all are are getting out this weekend too!!

Yes, 'tis the season for punched greens.  Still - good playing Mr. M!!  Rose City is a challenging track.

It is, but seemed much easier this time around than the last few.  Played there a few times over the last couple of years.  Once in Feb of 2020 it was the first course open after a big wind storm.  Branches everywhere in the fairways.  That was challenging.  Another time we played just after a snow melt, still plenty around in the shadows.  Lost a few balls there.  Also found some that others had buried before the melt.

They've changed the course a bit since you've probably played last.  Brought #9 green closer, now adjacent to the pond.  #18 is also closer by about 20 yards, so it's a bit easier.  ShotScope hadn't remapped it yet so my distances were a bit off on some holes.   Need to test out a new range finder next time they are up...

Yes it has been a few years since I played there... last time was in one of the Oregon Golf Association tourneys (OGA Pub Links I think).  That would have been in the early 2000's?  yikes.  Either my swing, or the course ate my lunch that weekend.  I choose to think it was the course 😉

I played today, but I have a bit of a conundrum: I used The Grint to keep score, and they apparently use an 80% index?  With my 13.9 index, that gives me 11 strokes. The OP showed his 100% course handicap index from GHIN. GHIN shows I should receive 14 strokes at 100%. So…

B03F84C3-6D80-401C-A3B8-436F23FEF167.png.99dd0d9fb2c6383aa0a975a231944166.png

If we use The Grint (80%) it’s 40/41 net 70 (-2)

Six net birdies, one net eagle.

If we use GHIN, I get additional strokes on holes 5, 10 & 18, so it becomes 40/41 net 67 (-5) as I add net birdie on 5, bogey as opposed to double on 10, and net birdie on 18. (Confused yet, I am… 😵🤔)

That makes eight net birdies, one net eagle.

This course is as tight as the first turn at Monaco, so no real place to hit the big stick with impunity. Longest drive only about 255 yds.

Anyone know how to switch The Grint to a 100% handicap? Guess I’ll score using GHIN next time. 🙄

Anyway, this is fun and I appreciate the Mods & MGS hosting!

Using the USGA Course Handicap calculator with your index of 13.9, course rating on your scorecard of 68.3 and slope of 123 and par being 72, your course handicap is 11.  The Grint apparently uses that same calculation to give the correct Course Handicap for you playing that set of tees.

You should use this calculator to determine your Course Handicap when you play different courses or different tees...

That calculator gives me 14 strokes at 100%. That was the point of the post. OP showed his course handicap at 100% on GHIN.

MGoBlue - If I am following correctly... you played a course with a Course Rating of 68.3, a Slope Rating of 123 and a par of 72.  Also, your USGA GHIN Handicap Index is 13.9.

Using those parameters, plugging it into the GHIN Course Handicap Calculator - your Course Handicap at this course from those tees is 11.

image.png

So I believe your GRINT Card is calculating correctly based on the GHIN Course Handicap Calculator.

Either way... great round playing under your handicap!  I'll get your stats added to the leaderboard!!

Okay; I was confused getting a different number from GHIN. Not looking to win; more concerned that everyone is calculating the same way and somebody who deserves to win will do so.
Thanks!!

No worries.  Is it possible the slope and rating are different in The Grint than you are using the the GHIN system?
