I don't suppose we could get a points/contest ranking mid way through? Obviously we know how much everyone is posting, but there are other ways to accumulate points...

I was thinking about this earlier in the week, I'd like to think I'm in the running, but there could be people with only a few posts and tons of referrals and blog articles...

 

But I'm not sure if I want to see exactly where everyone is either...

You can check this, sort of. Click on the member tab at the top. Select all and then select sort by post count. To get referrals, you will have to scroll through the list and see who has been listed n the referred by box.

In other words, what's the point in having a bunch of non-participating members.

I made a suggestion (not my original idea, but I'll let the originator out himself if he chooses) that the number of referrals be capped at 10 in the interest of:

 

A) Rewarding those who post, not just those who open up their email address book and flood referrals

 

and

 

B ) Getting us to refer people who will actually use the forum instead of just doing the aforementioned opening up of the address book

 

and

 

C) Allowing people to have a better idea about where they stand in this contest

 

I have not gotten a response to this suggestion, and this post is not meant as a complaint about the lack of response in any way, (MGS is welcome to run this contest in any way that they see fit, they don't need my approval) but simply to see what other members think about the idea.

I expect that you're correct, and it might be that they simply want to have a very large number of members, whether those members post or not. That is said with absolutely no sarcasm or sniping tone whatsoever. It is MGS's board, and he should run it in the way that he sees fit, period. More than anything, I am overwhelmed by the prizes that have been assembled and I appreciate the opportunity to participate in the contest.

The intent of the original post wasn't to request a change in the rules. I was merely suggesting it would be good to know where we all stood. We are all working hard to create interesting topics and discussion so I think that's fair.
