Pretty sure none of my 3 would do this and the dalmatian would just run off to be friends with every other golfer on the course.

I have two who fight and chase down chip shots in my yard, when I say fight I mean try to steal them from each other no actual dog fights. My dogs love chasing balls and bring them back to me when I ask them, but they are force retrieved so they know if I say one word they have to.

I am working on trying to teach my puppy to "stay" while the ball in at my feet.  Right now, as soon as I start my backswing... she jumps for the ball... so as you can imagine... I haven't taken any real swings with her outside.  She will bring the ball back out of the net and drop it at my feet on the net though... wanting me to let her chase it again.

Mine will watch me intently so I take a practice swing and they go back thinking that I hit one give that a try it may fool her so she doesn’t try to get it and get hit by the club

Yes, a few of my practice balls .. and birdie balls, too .. have doggy teeth marks on them

I had a Dalmatian in the 1970's; he would run off anytime, anywhere... covering a LOT of ground!!

We are lucky ours is great off leash and never have to worry about her in that way, but yeah exactly like you said they cover a lot of ground. We had a fit bit on her and while we sure 5km she did 18km.

Mine would probably try to fetch me people's balls off the green.  Or bark at people trying to drive...  Or attacking golfbags when people are pulling them.  I can keep thinking of scenarios.  Enough to say no to the dog on the golf course idea.
