Sluggo’s New Driver…

Went in for a driver fitting today, and guess which one won the day..

hint, it wasn’t the rogue, stealth, cobrah, mizzy, etc, which interestingly all seemed nice, but didn’t really go longer than the Mav…

it was the TSr2 9° on a Tensi Blue 55g S.

i did hit a few of the TSr3’s 5-7 yards longer, but I also hit a few shorter. It seemed like as long as you got the club on the face ANYWHERE, it went long. Now remember I’m just a fat old guy so my Mavrik were avg 255ish. The tsr2 avg 273, and the tsr3 avg 273.5. While the 3 went longer on sweet spot hits, it definitely went shorter on off center hits. The tsr2 just went good every swing. So i ate my ego, and decided the reality is that I’m not the guy who bangs the sweet spot again and againI kept mixing in my Mavrik SZ to make sure it was all apples to apples. It literally averaged 18 yards longer, and even the tired out final swings were still going 5-10 longer than good Mavrik shots. Now, I doubt I’ll see 18 more yards avg on every drive, but honestly, if I see 5-10, with more shots in the short grass, I’ll be ecstatic.

i tried the 10°, and the regular shafts, but the spin went up and the descent became more abrupt. 

it’s ordered and will be here in 2 weeks or less…

I just ordered new TSR2s too yesterday (sig line) - they all blew away the 2018 Callaway Rogues and Miz CLK I’m happily ditching. My fitter told me 3-4 weeks, but admitted he was practicing ‘under promise, over deliver’ - not a bad practice IME.

Ok!, first day out.

well I only had two bombs, that went slightly longer than the Mavric SZ, but, and it’s a pretty big but, I hit 12 of 14 fairways. I actually had a pretty poor day of ball striking but low and behold, they were all decent 240-260, and in the fairway! Ended up with a +2 ,73. 
and this is why I’m super glad I got the 2, and not the 3. On 2 holes I would have hit one less iron in, but I got to hit short irons in all day. It was chilly this morning, and I had a few layers on which restricted my swing a bit, morning dew, etc. which all hinder distance, so no real surprises

now the feel and the sound are incredible. Good hits were a good snappy crack, and actually felt kinda soft, similarly to a clean iron shot, you don’t really feel it that much. But the sound is delicious. 
anyways, a very positive first outing, although I envisioned an extra 20 yards every shot, that didn’t happen, but my partner said he didn’t think anything was going to go longer than the Mav did anyways, but the accuracy and mostly the forgiving-ness was wayyyy better…

next round is Friday- can’t wait

I gotta tell ya guys, this driver is amazing. I only missed one fairway today- and had 4 bombs in the 270-280 range, one of those was over 300, but it’s downhill… the others were those 240-260 mishits, that were still in the middle! The old Mavric SZ was just as long on good hits, but the mishits were very punishing. 
it was expensive as one club can get- but after 2 games- it’s priceless!

I would say that you should really be honest with yourself about getting the 3 or the 4, as you need to be a very precise ball striker. Yes, on a clean hit, they’ll go farther- but if you’re like me and tend to miss the sweetspot more often than you care to admit, get the 2. It’s a remarkable club
