Streamsong Courses

I can recall seeing this on a NLU video and put it on my bucket list to go. Anyone here played here? Anyone done both here and Bandon and have a preference between the two?

I don't believe I would be going this season or next, but would be looking at maybe something in 2024 being a real possibility!

Streamsong is great. I’ve not been to Bandon but I’m guessing it Streamsong is not at that level. But it has the same course architects plus Gil Hanse, and it’s all about the golf. Modern style resort hotel rooms and pretty good food at the restaurants. The Red course is really great and the others are very good. The Black has a different look and feel than the other two, a bit more Australian sandscape  style.  If you stay there, you are stuck to the resort for the trip because you are far away from anything else.

I was at Streamsong while black was being built so did not get to play it.  Does not compare to Bandon really though,  nowhere really does though lol.  Resort is super nice and the rooms are big and nice.  But yes as LICC said you are stuck at the resort, closest town is half hour away if i remember correctly as someone in our group had to go out for aloe vera.  Golf courses are still great though and worth the trip.  When we went we started at Bay Hill for a night and round then headed to streamsong.  You will not be dissapointed.  My only problem was with the pro shop prices, if i remember correctley they actually charged $10 over msrp for Pro V1s.

I have been lucky enough to stay and play at both Bandon and Streamsong. Can't go wrong either way. Streamsong is way out in the middle of nowhere and does not carry as much acclaim as Bandon Dunes. From a pure golf standpoint I gave the edge to Streamsong, all three courses are awesome. Also, much better weather in Florida. Warm and no wind.

I am based in Switzerland so Florida is certainly easier to get to, however I do have Bandon on my to do list as well. However with a growing family that will have to wait a few years. I am thinking doing it for my 40th or something like that.

There is only one Bandon; with 5 great courses it is hard to beat !  I love Streamsong too for a shorter golf trip.  Food is comparable at both.  Lodging is equal at both.  Service is equal at both.  If you go to either in the off seasons they are both good values.  Peak season at either , you will pay dearly.   The walks are a little easier at Streamsong.  More memorable holes at Bandon because of the ocean views and cliff holes.  Both resorts are in the middle of nowhere.  There is a casino about 30 minutes from Bandon that you can go to via their shuttle.  I have been to Bandon 8 times and Streamsong only once so I need to go back to Streamsong and play the Black course.

This is where I land (having played neither of the resorts). Maybe I am a wimp but if I am planning a golf trip for 12 months out the last thing I want is to get there and it is blowing 30 mph and raining. I know that is GOLF but I guess I would just rather have it be sunny and calm more often than not.

What I like about both resorts (especially Streamsong) is that the fairways tend to be WIDE. I do not, for the life of me, understand why so many other "resort" courses are so narrow (Sea Island, Harbour Town, Most all of other Florida/South Carolina resorts). I understand that coastal property is expensive and they are trying to squeeze a golf course into a small footprint but having 35 yd landing zones (or smaller) is like the LEAST fun golf in the world to me. Never mind the fact that when playing resort courses (I usually play by myself so I get paired up with others) I can't recall seeing anyone else that I have played with break 90. Hell when I was at Harbour Town I shot in the high 70s and the other 3 gentlemen averaged like 105 or something like that. I don't understand how that is fun (for them). Sea Island was very similar. Same with Caledonia etc. All that said, I think the Kaiser's have it right. Sand Valley looks very wide. Golf should be fun not mimic a PGA Tour test (there should be some courses that are HARD but I feel like too many have tilted in that direction). It's the main reason I don't think I would ever play a course like PGA National (Championship), Whistling Straits, El Camaleon (Mayakoba), etc. They just look super penal.

Sorry for that rant, I just have played golf too many times while on vacation now where the courses are all just these tiny ballparks. The easy response could be "play better, hit it straighter" and I would agree with you but also I have realized I am just never going to get my driver dispersion smaller than 30 yds.

Having played Streamsong twice and going on a trip to Streamsong in a couple weeks, happy to weigh in.  I have not played Bandon.

Streamsong is a 4 star luxury resort with all of the trimmings including food and beverage offerings, spa and recreation that you would expect from a remote Golf Retreat.  During season (Dec-May) the course is walking only and closed to the public with room rate averaging $400+/night.  The room product is nice, definitely a larger than normal executive suite (I do not recommend paying up for a view).  The Hotel itself looks like something out of a Bond movie, with three restaurants in the main building and one each at the course clubhouses.  The highlight being a rooftop bar which is a wonderful place to enjoy a cigar and whiskey through the evening.

Golf, wide open resort style golf with exceptional grooming and routing.  Black so far has been my favorite, but I am yet to play Blue.  My favorite part, being someone that sprays my tee shots, is the lateral OB rules in place.  No more three off the tee.  Green complexes are amazing, some spanning acres and give you challenges no matter the placement.  Caddy service is highly recommended (request Kong or MJ for a lot of fun) but all have bene professional during my rounds.  Greens fees average $200, can be $120 during the height of summer and $280 during the season.

Overall flying into Orlando or Tampa and having the 90min or so drive is worth it.  I've had nothing but fun at Streamsong.  It is in my top 5 golf destinations (3 or more 18 hole courses in a resort or highly local area) in the US.  I would also highly recommend  adding a couple days to include Innisbrook or TPC Sawgrass.  In central Florida  can play 5 "top 100 courses you can play" driving a total of 6 hours.  (Jacksonville to Tampa). Also note Cabot Citrus Farms to open next year as well.

$10 over MSRP for ProV's at a Top 50 resort.   You found a bargain 🙂   The top courses often charge $65 to $75 for ProV's

I live just 2 hours away from Streamsong but have yet to make it out there to play. But I have heard so many great things about the course and the resort and I can't wait to finally make it out there soon with a group of friends. From the pictures and videos I've seen, the course looks like an absolute gem and I know it's going to be a great experience. I'm looking forward to enjoying the beautiful views and testing my skills on the challenging greens. Can't wait to make it out there and check it out for myself!

A friend of mine goes down every June—I think when they have a 2 person tournament package.  I think it started as a Father-Son but to get more interest they just opened it to any 2 Person Team.

He loves the place.  He’s a scratch and his father is about a 16 and they both enjoy it equally.

Was there a month ago.  We played 5.5 rounds (red 2x, blue 2x, black 1.5x) over 4 days.  The .5 round was day we arrived.  Courses were great, caddies were great (ask for Taylor, Ty, or Bailey), service at restaurants was horrible (but you are captive as no where else to go).  The service issues could easily be fixed if they hired more cooks and waiters/waitresses.   We waited for over an hour that caused us to almost miss our 2nd round tee time of the day.

your caddies are the same for each day there.  Found that to be great as they know your game and distances.  listen to the caddies as they know the greens inside and out.  Don’t go in any grass that you can’t see your feet.  There are rattlers and cottonmouth snakes.  The resort does not have anti-venom for the cottonmouth.  If you get bit, you will die…that is not a joke.  If bad weather / lightning is rolling in, again listen to your caddie and head in.  You are on top of a former phosphate mine that has heavy iron content.  Again, very dangerous and the clubhouse is pretty far away from the furthest point on the course.

black course is completely different from red and blue.  Some say they don’t like the course, but I enjoyed it.  Was 2 over on the back 9.  back 9 is different than the front 9.  Red course has a massive alligator on hole #2.  By massive, I mean like 2000 pounds and probably 13 feet in length.  Red and blue are intertwined with red on outside and blue on inside.  Really enjoyed red. Blue had more elevation changes than red.  Black was more flat (excluding a few holes) and more windy (prob avg 20 mph with gusts to 40mph).  All courses had a lot of wind, but black had probably the most.  One par 3 is 165 yards uphill into a 40mph wind in our face…played like 210-215 yards.  Black also had wider fairways.

Playing 36 walking is going to be tough.  You are walking a lot on sand.  We did walking first 18 and riding second 18.  We were all wiped at end of day.

pack lots of sunscreen.  You will use it and the caddies will remind you often to reapply.  They also will remind you to hydrate.  I found that to be helpful.

the resort is an hour and a half ride from Orlando or Tampa in the middle of nowhere.
