I will also start with where I am at. I will baseline in a bit, but my goal is to hit a new personal best of 116 mph by the spring. To accomplish this I am using my super speed training with the PRGR as the foundational speed training. Also will be adding in workouts, trying to figure out if I can use some gym space and start some Fit For Golf training, if not I still have some weights at home I can use to work on things, though it will have to be modified. I plan to complete speed training 3 days a week and weight training 2 to 3 days a week as well. I also currently do daily yoga for core and mobility so I plan to keep that up.

Why not, I'll join in. I will get some baseline numbers tomorrow during my assessment. I'm probably going to also create a separate topic to document my newest investment into my game which should be starting tomorrow. Hoping for some extra speed is just a part of that, so we will see where it can go. I'll have a bit more of an idea what all will be involved in the process for me after the initial meeting.

I can't take part as I don't have a way to measure my speed... But we will get a banner made up for the winner 🏆 to put something a little bigger on the line.

I've gifted all my swing speed kit since it was collecting dust, but will follow!

Hope the mods don't mind me taking and putting MSG in the title, but as mentioned by a coupe folks in the off season work speed training is a big theme. I decided lets turn it into a friendly competition so here it is. The MSG Off-Season Speed Challenge.

The game is simple, before you start speed training, take 3 swings w/o a ball (my own rule since I can't hit balls in the winter and even March 1 will be too early) to get you baseline speed. Just post it in the thread and I will add you to the leader board. Then we will have until March 15th to get the speed as high as possible. In and around March 15 we get your new speed and the person with the largest percent increase wins (just pride not prizes). Of course we want to here about how the training is going through out the off season. Tips you have found, helpful videos, workout guides that you are using to reach you peak speeds. Would be great to get at least monthly check ins and I will keep an up to date leader board on here for folks.

Thanks @Getoffmylawn and @Vegan_Golfer_PNW for hopping on board early. Let the speed begin so next year we can all be hitting bombs like these.

Damn you @ejgaudette!!  I can't back down from a challenge!!!  😉

I will figure out a reliable method to test my current "speed" (that term is an oxymoron for my swing).  I have a Mevo, but it requires a ball to register... so while I'm not exactly following your rules... as long as I have the same setup through my "training" it should provide an appropriate % change.  If you deem my "with ball" swing speed unworthy for the challenge... I completely understand :).

So... just warmed up and took 3 swings... Average 90.5 mph.  195 and a cloud of dust baby!!!

When is the end of the challenge?

Just did a little math to see what I'm up against...

@ejgaudettebaselined at 104 and has a goal of 116 - that is 11.5% increase

@Vegan_Golfer_PNWbaselined at 109 and has a goal of 120 - that is 10.1% increase

So to stay ahead of them... I need 11.6% increase... so at my current swing speed of 90.5 - that means my goal is 101 mph.

too funny!  we were sort of talking about some off-season speed tracking at our last mod meeting.  I was thinking a Stack vs SuperSpeed thing, but this will work as well!  I'm curious if we'll have anyone sort of try their own thing and see how that works out vs a program like the other two.

You can count me in, but if I took my baseline swings right now I'd be down in @Golfspy_TCB territory while I'm on the mend for a small procedure and am not supposed to exercise.

I wouldn't want to be accused of sandbagging. 😉

I'll have to figure out the best way for me to record my swings.  The swing speed radar is probably less accurate overall (it seems to read about 3MPH faster than my Rapsodo does) but doesn't need to use balls.

I now have a garage to do training in over the winter, and I've been looking at different fitness options anyway as I have some covid... and hell some pre-covid pounds I'd like to shed.

Overall goal is going to be seeing ball speed over 160.  I haven't hit that yet and I really want to.  158 has been the highest I ever got on Rapsodo with my average good shot closer to 153.

I resemble that remark in a big way BOS!  I have good intentions...

Curious what everyone is using for measuring swing speed?  Isn't one of the speed trainers using PRGR as their standard now?  I have thought about getting something that can measure speed without hitting a ball... just not sure what direction to go.

BTW, I'll be using the RypStick for my speed training if that matters.

In! Thanks for coming up with this @ejgaudette

I am much slower than last year or the year before. I have done some speed training and has for sure helped my day to day swing

ill get some speeds this week maybe tomorrow before my round should be around 109/110. My goal would be to get back up to where I was but with control, 120.

will be doing speed training and once my gym is set up will be doing mostly pliometrric drills with lighter weight, I feel my best when doing that and feel like I can easily get to the 120 range without any real heavy weight training.

No problem close enough as long as you use a ball at the end as well, all good. I am going until March 15th  so be sure to give updates and have you final speeds in by then.

Glad to get some interest on this one so thanks @GolfSpy_BOS , @Golfspy_TCB, and @Lacassem. I will get those baselines into my sheet as they come in. Also great to see I have super speed, @Golfspy_TCB has Rypstick and if @Getoffmylawn gets in on the action we will have The Stack represented as well. So another fun sub-plot. which program makes the biggest jump.

Look forward to following along with everyone and I think I might be sending another prize to the winner to up the stakes just a bit.

(also @GolfSpy_BOS I think I'll have to give you  extra mph just to account for sand bagging)

I use a PRGR, I got with my Super Speed sticks as a package set. They still offer this bundle. I find the PRGR to be pretty reliable without too many wild readings and when I have been on a Quad speeds were very close. I know @GolfSpy_BOS has the blue sport radar which tends to read a bit high and bit more erratic, though based on what you said @GolfSpy_BOS is you are only losing  3 between that and the Rapsodo with hitting balls you unit might not be that far off.

I have been leaning toward the PRGR for various reasons... including swing speed training... so this may be just the push I needed... If I do get it, I'll re-submit my baseline.

By the way, if you would like to have the leaderboard at the top of the thread and on each page... let me know, I'm happy to make that update in the thread for you... that is a mod function (similar to how the leaderboard is displayed in the weekly virtual tournament threads).

I also have the PRGR to check speed with. For the most part it is relatively close, but it does give the odd weird reading. It seems to pick up swing speed without a ball with very little trouble, sometimes the ball is what causes the problem. I've noticed it can also be a little finicky about interference from other devices. The numbers tend to be a bit more erratic if I have earbuds in listening to music for example.

I have the SuperSpeed protocol I can follow, but I'm also going to be working with a separate program that I will go into some more detail on once I get the information on Friday. Will have to discuss whether the SuperSpeed protocol would be a good thing to follow or if I should focus on the changes that we might be making first. Going to require some work on my part for sure.

I was going to start my winter SS training next week,  so this is perfect.  I'm in.

But I need to read the fine print clarifications.  are we going for increase in cruising speed swings or just all out who cares if the ball leaves the property swings?

Right now with gc3 hitting a ball I'm at 99, with radar and no ball I'm at 101.

Feel free for everyone to correct me, but I believe that we are aiming for top speed. The assumption that actual playing speed will be less than the absolute top speed. The original post says average 3 swings without ball. Some participants may not be realistically able to hit balls due to the area they live.

Very cool. I just did a baseline two weeks ago, does that count? I’m hoping to finally get over 120 by the time spring rolls around. Started getting better about adding in some strength/power so hopefully this is the time.

Well I can't hit balls with my speed training so no ball is fine and I was going pretty hard on the baseline yesterday so top speed works for me, still just average of 3 swings.

Thanks for starting it @ejgaudette!  Sign me up at 109 for a starting swing speed.

As to what the goal is, I think we're just after a new "without a ball speed" and the winner of this competition is the one who's new all out top end speed represents the biggest jump from their baseline number they post here to start.  (Right?)

I do have a few other questions...will there be a drug test?  Cuz if not I'm about to start the horse 'roids to get this forum badge.  Goal wise I'd love to hit a top end in the mid-120s...don't know how realistic that is but go big or go home right?

And yes, I'm happy to represent the Stack, although I'm hoping to see @edingcget in the mix here too!

I will add you in and yes top speed without a ball at the end of line. Also I cannot think of any better reason to roid up than for an MGS badge. And I might be procuring an even better prize.
