MGS Off-Season Speed Challenge

I'm in - should be able to get my baseline swing speed figured out sometime next week.

I'm game to play.  Team Rypstick Mevo+ SwingTraining mode 95.9 (avg of three swings w two weights)

Hip replacement in a week - so if I can at least be at that speed by March 15 I'll be happy - anything over will be a bonus - so this baseline is a good motivator.

Good comment.  I will be using my TSi3 with Tensei AV Blue 65 for the baseline and progress.   

Any on course gains I get with my Ladies Shaft will be just icing on the cake in the Virtual MGS Forum Member Weekly Championship Tour  .

Great to see all the various folks joining with their various speed systems and training plans should be fun. I have added @THEZIPR23, @WaffleHouseTour, and @edingc to the sheet and we should be at at least 12 competitors. Let the games begin.

Got a baseline for this earlier today. It's not where I should be, but it's where I am at currently. Log me for a starting average speed of 95 mph. Hoping to get closer to 110 by the end of this.

Got another speed session today and will pair that as the warm up for my weight session. Going to keep the weights light as I get back into that. Looking forward to seeing everyone's progress

As we all embark on our off-season training, I thought I'd share this video from Sasho.  It's a little bit focused on the Stack, but overall I think it does a good job of communicating the importance of managing expectations relative to speed training, which goes across all training methodologies.  Bottom line: don't expect linear progress, the point is to stay with it and trust that the progress will come!

Ok, I received my PRGR today.  I will have my baseline by tomorrow.  I did take a few free swings and it was pretty spot on to the Mevo as far as swing speed, but I'll see if I can amp up a few mph as the starting point for the competition.

I'll start the competition with a baseline of:

I'm not proud of it.  But it is my reality :/.  

My off-season regimen intention is:

• Dedicated to below November 1 through March 15 (4.5 months)
• Rypstick protocol 3 days per week
• Targeted muscle toning 3 days per week
• Carrying bag at least 18 holes a week / Pushcart at least 18 holes a week

Goal: 100+ mph 3 swing average.

Gonna be hitting bombs next year I just know it. Also 'targeted muscle toning' makes it seem so graceful though when I lift weights grace is not the word I would use

Also you were working off a 90.5 average from a previous session so ill give you the 0.16 mph as a rounding error

Well I was trying to figure out how to describe what I hope to follow through with... Resistance bands, kettle bells, slam ball, stretching/yoga, and box jumps (in addition to my frequent ascent up on the soap box haha).  It is more than just weight lifting... thus "targeted muscle toning"   And graceful would NOT be how I describe my attempt at any of the above!!

I had a recent trackman hit with the TSR I bought for a new baseline after clearing out a shaft rattle to make sure everything was good, it's 96.3. I don't want to be accused of goosing the system

This looks like fun.  Given a recent snow storm, that may limit real golf for a few days, will baseline in back yard and then Superspeed.

Touched 133 with my light weight stick today. Mind you this is also being sore from offseason lifting for the last 4 weeks. I can only imagine when March rolls around and i let everything recover I should be in pretty good shape. Nice graphic at the top. This will be fun!

So to give a small piece of info, I'm going to be working with a physical therapist nearby that specializes in sports performance and primarily golf. To start with, we went through the MyTPI assessment and used a K-vest to get all of the important pieces of my swing measured. It was not a good swing day for me, but it did show the areas where I need work. 

The first couple of weeks are going to be mostly various stretches to increase general mobility, then moving into working on strengthening the necessary stabilizers for the golf swing. Finish up some overall specific strength training. The whole program is going to be 12 weeks, so my game will probably take a hit for the first few weeks until I can relearn to sync the swing up with the newer movement. 

Sequencing my swing should give me a solid speed boost even without the other pieces, so it will be fun to see where I can get to.
