Realized I need to focus a ton straightening my lead leg during speed training. When I do I see a huge bump in speed. Just need to be consistent.

Please forgive my potential ignorance here, but isn't ball speed a much better indicator of speed improvement? I know quite a few golfers who can swing fast and hard, but because their mechanics are poor, they don't have optimized ball speeds.

Not entirely wrong in my opinion, but you also have to keep in mind that some people won't realistically be able to hit balls due to weather, etc. Not to mention the effects of temperature on ball speed. Using dry swings with no ball is a way to normalize the field there with what is available to everyone. It also kind of sets a ceiling on potential speed. I would guess that most would see some level of speed decrease whenever a ball gets in the way of a swing.

Yes exactly this I am one of those people that cannot hit a ball most of the winter unless I get to a sim and since I started this well I went the selfish route and said dry swing speed so I am not left out 😁

Bummer - just pulled the trigger on the RypStick, but I'll be following along, for sure!  I'm about to buy the PRGR - thought I'd be okay with my Swing Caddie, but it's an older model and doesn't register swing speed even remotely closely enough without a ball there, so...I guess part of my bonus is paying for a(nother) new thing, lol.

Super curious to see how you all do! I'm a bit late to this thread, so catching up has been fun.

And FWIW, my driver speed is usually right about 100-101 - I'm aiming to get it up past 105 to see what that does for my drives.  I mean, 10 yards is 10 yards, even if it's 30 yards right. (I mean, right?)

Well, not much faster, but consistent. 108 on all three swings today. Small improvement with very little work put in so far. Hoping to see the bigger gains once the program transitions to the later phases.

I'll leave this one here from my 2019 progress with Mike's offseason routine:

Update:  I had a few minutes to myself and  did the warmup routine. The hip 90/90s almost broke my body. I never would have thought my hips were that tight. This should be good once I get back from Disney and can get on a schedule. Up until then I’m going to try to do the warmup every morning to get used to the app and such.

I’ll try to get an update swing speed tomorrow if it’s dry, otherwise I won’t have an update for a few weeks! I wouldn’t expect much change at this point anyway!

My hips did the same thing when I started. I sometimes get them to punch if my legs aren’t far enough apart. Fit for golf is such a great app and worth the money. Mike does an amazing job.

I would say the PRGR. The accuracy is pretty good and its about the same as the blue sports radar which is a bit more inconsistent.

The Rypstick RypRadar, Golf Swing Speed Radar on Amazon is probably the cheapest followed by the blue sports radar.  Both are probably good enough.  A step,up,would be the PRGR radar which is a bit more expensive but has some additional measurements when you want to actually hit balls.

Monthly check in, with some extremes.

107

AVG 109.33

I did do a 4th swing to see what was going on as a 7 mph difference seems very extreme IMO. It was 111 so there is a certain move that allows me to swing much faster. Will be working on pinpointing that.

For some reason I have always had the additional speed at times and have never been able to figure out why. My playing partner jokes with me all the time, I'll hit 13 drives the same distance and 1 will be 20-30 yards longer. No idea. I used to have it with my irons as well, which was terrible, however that hasn't happened in a few years.

That does sounds awful for the irons so glad that has abated.

Just got in my speed check with some flurries coming down here in northern NH and today was a fast day. was able to go 108/107/108 before my speed training today. Speed training went very well. Finally got back to hitting 130 with the light stick, 121 with the blue and 117 with the red. Matching some of my higher speeds back when I was training more regularly which felt great. I know the progress will not be linear but hoping to get the speed back I lost from dropping the training, about 110 at most, and then add on to that.

Good luck everyone on your check ins in the next couple days.

(I'm not part of this thread as a participant, mind you, but thought I'd chime in anyway)

I just bought the RypStick and the PRGR (separately, mind you), as everything I could find was saying that the PRGR was worth the price difference.  I found the PRGR for $199 on Amazon - everywhere else I saw it listed at $220.  It has more than just radar (so estimated distance, smash factor, etc.), but allows you to swing with no ball, which my current SC200 does not allow for.  I'll be offloading the SC200 to  offset the cost of the PRGR.

Hope that helps! It's apparently super, super consistent, and usually a small (but consistently the same) percentage off from the big-boy units, at a fraction of the price.
