What’s Your Go To Golf Tee?

I’ve always insisted on wood or bamboo tees for tradition and biodegradability. However I go though hundreds of tees every year and that’s not without environmental impact, so I wonder if plastic tees might make more sense? Wooden/bamboo tees break easily (and may cost more as a result), litter tee boxes and don’t do mowers any favors, use more material and distribution impact, and mark up drivers. Plastic tees will outlive everyone in our families and then some, not good. [Yes I know bamboo is a grass, not wood]

I’ve changed the poll to plastic or polymer since they’re similarly non biodegradable.

I use plastic because whenever I use a wood tee it breaks after one or two tee shots.  Haven’t bought a tee in years and use the same tee until it gets lost or broke; which is  maybe a couple a year.   I don’t buy them because I will just pick up another from the tee box and put it on my pocket and I have bags full of them at home.

I'm with cnosil on found tees.  As a walker, I find a pocketful of tees every time I play.  I share these found tees with my friends and the high school golf team.

I have a whole bag of Stinger Tee's that I dip in from time to time, I don't normally break tees that often in a round off Driver, so put me down for team Bamboo

Same for me.  I rarely break a tee; probably a few more now that the ground is getting frozen!!  I usually pick up a few on the range before a round, and empty the pocket on my bag about 3 times a year.  I have bags of tees at home.  Why do I keep doing this?  Dumbass!!

I use the Yatta tees. Consistent setup for my driver and has really helped my game

... Something I never thought I would do, but I have switched to Martini tees after finding 5 of them on the course. My favorite tees, the 3 1/4" Evolution tees tend to break at the little spikes that hold the ball and sometimes it is hard to get the ball to sit on the tee. Impossible to see (without glasses) and I fumble around before realizing the spike is broken. Martini is the easiest to sit a ball on a tee compared to any I have played so I am using them for simple convenience. The fact that it lasts until you basically lose it is good for the environment because I hate plastic waste.

^^ Several of the guys I play with regularly use Martini tees exclusively. I always thought they were goofy, and I certainly don't buy their extra distance claims. But as I’m questioning the wisdom of wooden/bamboo tees I bought a bag of 5 recently with a store credit I was trying to use up. If I ever run out of bamboo tees, I guess I'll be using Martini tees too.

Right now I'm mostly using Callaway 3" plastic tees because I got them for Christmas last year.  I used to play Consistant-Tees for driver and standard 1 1/2" (orange stripe) wood tees.   I think I have a bag of them somewhere, but usually just picked them up as people would just leave them and not re-use.  Almost any tee I use lasts a long time, but the wood ones the head eventually chips.  I've only ever broken a few Consistent-Tee or Callaway tees.   I will break wood or bamboo tees if I tee high, so tend to stay away from them for driver.  I prefer tees with a wider seat since I can't ever get the thing straight up and down, so a wider base helps keep the ball in place.

... Right there with you, I don't believe in added distance claims for ANY tee. I also don't like the "lean forward for extra yards" Martini recommends because the tees are so bright and I don't want to see them at address. Of course the neon colors make them easy to find on the tee box after hitting a drive.

My favorite tees are plastic ones I got years ago from Monsta Golf, 3.25”. They were a DTC golf ball company that I tried on a whim.

I normally use the tees that I find in front of tee boxes. Mostly like the 3.25" or 3.5" tees for driver.

I've been using what I think are called "consistent tees".  I like the consistency, no pun intended, and I've been using the same tee for two months...

My club provides tees, so I use their wood ones mostly, but for some reason - even with free tees for the taking - I can't pass up an unbroken wood or plastic tee when I pass it on the tee box.  I usually end the day with 10-15 tees in my pocket... I think it is OCD.   

I have recenlty been using this "found" tee for the past several rounds. 

Similar to the Martini tee - I like the collar that sets up where I want the ball height to be, it has a large cup so I can easily perch my ball on it (I'm getting older... this is important  ), and it is bright orange and "should be" easy to see (though I have spent time searching the tee box for it more times than I care to count).

A year or so ago I was sent a ton of MGS tees and have been using those since. Great durability with the wood tees and yeah can't complain!

I typically use plastic tees for many of the reasons already stated.  I like the fact I can put one in my pocket and be confident that it will last not only my current rounds, but future rounds.  The robustness of the tees also helps the tee box from being littered with broken wooden tees.   Like others, I'll pick up "lost" plastics tees when I find them and put them to use.   On the rare occasion I come across a broken plastic tee, I'll pick it up, use a knife or pencil sharpener to create a point at the end and use it for par 3's.   Sort of like recycling.

I tend to like the 3.25" Evolution tees.  Another little rule I have (and I'm not overly superstitious) is if I have a particularly good round, I'll keep that plastic tee in play until it's broken or more realistically it decides not to perform any longer.

Always use wooden tees.  Never plastic.

If you break a wooden tee with a driver then your strike/approach angle  probably isn't right, so the wooden tee peg actually gives you as bit of feedback as well as being environmentally better.

If you do break them then at least the shortened peg can be used off par 3 tees or where you might use an iron, hybrid or fairway wood.

I play with people who persist with plastic and I spend more time looking for their balls.  Why?  Well for some reason the very same players seem to have this thing in their heads that a 2p tee peg is worth more than a £4.50 golf ball because they spend more time looking for the damned tee peg and less watching where their ball is flying.

If less value is applied to the tee peg, perhaps play might speed up a little more!

I am not saying plastic tees haven't got a use.  I do carry a few when I go to the practice ground.  We don't have those rubber things you find at driving ranges, so they do come in handy for that.

Currently using 4 yards more tees and martini tees…I like 4 yards more because it has a stop and sets the ball up with the same height every time.  Have not broken one yet…..

 This is an unused one but I find lots of orphaned ones mostly near tee boxes that I play.  The Evolution tee is a popular ABS material tee that plays for a long time as in many rounds and I notice they don't influence the ball for me as much other tees do.  With the 2.75" length pushed in about a quarter of it's length, the tee holds firmly but also flips out with minimal damage that only becomes evident over time usually as a fatigue crack mid-shaft.  This length works best for my driver and up or down 1/8th of an inch in height controls the height of the drive so I measure that with my finger pushing it into the ground.  The 1.5" length works for my par-3 iron tee shots.

I prefer the longer thick plastic tees, but they're not cheap and I lose them too often. I'll stay with longer wood tees.

Second these. They're initially expensive but I used the same driver tee all season. I lost one last year but only because I had to run off the tee box to avoid a sprinkler and forgot to go back and grab it.

Don't bother use the short ones, though. I just grab broken ones that I find scattered around. Take five minutes on any range and you'll find plenty.

I use the Pride Professional tees. Bought a combo pack of driver and par 3 several years ago and am still working with that pack.

I use Western Birch.   Was breaking tees like every few holes before picking some of these up plus these have some different looking colors/designs that I liked.  I'd say I can get through an entire round with just one tee at least half the time.   Never really liked the marks on my driver the plastic ones make.    A buddy of mine uses the martini tees but I think some of it has to do with how easy it is to get the ball set up as he is a bit older than I am.     https://westernbirch.com/?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIrJXpjuGU-wIVURx9Ch1BwQOfEAAYASAAEgIRmPD_BwE

I had made a little game of trying to never buy tees, using found tees was fine with me. Then I found a Martini Tee and loved it... So I bought a small bag of new ones but I haven't lost/broken the first one yet!
