2022 Season Courses - How many did you play?

GolfSpy_APH

Recommended Posts

Brought on by another member in their thread, but he managed to play 14 different courses this year!

How many different courses did you play and what was your favorite of the season? I know many of you have time left in your seasons and some of you already have snow or the courses are shut down.

For me I played 8 different courses.

Otelfingen Championship 18
Oberkirch Panorama 18
Schloss Goldenberg 18
Gonten 18
Holzhäusen 18
Weggen 9
Moossee 6 hole course (3 times haha)
Limpachtal 9 hole

I may still yet get another couple on my list here, however given the conditions I have experienced the last couple rounds I would say I am going to call it a season. Love golfing, but with it being so wet and muddy it really isn't a whole lot of fun.

So what courses did you play? How many would be your goal for next year?

My golf travel hasn't been nearly as prolific as many posted above!  Next year should be much better as I plan to attend at least a few Official and Unofficial MGS meet ups (Do You Hear Me PNW??!!).

This year (so far) I have played 107 rounds (according to GHIN) and 8 different courses.

Most of my play is at my home club, Willow Fork - but was able to get out and about a little bit

  • Memorial Park GC (Home of the Houston Open)
  • Apple Tree GC (Yakima, WA)
  • Suntides GC (Yakima, WA)
  • Jersey Village GC (Houston, TX)
  • Sweetwater CC (Sugarland, TX)
  • Quail Valley GC - Eldorado Course (Houston, TX)
  • Cinco Ranch GC - (Katy, Texas)

Still working to get an invite to Kingsland CC (where parts of the movie Tin Cup was shot), but that may be early next year.  Also would like to go play the Tour 18 course north of Houston before the year end.

Next year, my goal is to double my total this year... so 16 or 18 courses depending on how I finish this year.

So that's 24 different courses, seven US states and two different countries.  AWESOME, but could have been even better.  I had a staff meeting deprive me of Arcadia Bluffs (South), American Dunes and a couple other Northern MI courses, and Hurricane Ian cancelled my plans to spend a week in SW FL playing probably 4-5 different tracks.  Oh well, it was a GREAT golf year; on to 2023!!

Pretty fun to think back to the courses I played this year!

Played River Heights the most by far.

Buena Vista in Dekalb IL

Sycamore GC in Sycamore

Silver Ridge in Oregon IL

PrairieView in Byron (new this year)

Fairways in Rochelle

Timber Pointe in Poplar Grove (new this year)

Marengo Ridge in Marengo

Indian Oaks in Shabbona

Hughes Creek in Elburn

Edgebrook in Sandwich

Tanna Farms in Geneva

Orchard Valley in Aurora (new this year)

Mill Creek in Geneva (new this year)

Bedford Valley in Battle Creek MI (new this year)

Overall I played in just about 100 rounds this year, at 15 different courses.  Really want to go back to Prairie View, Orchard Valley, and Mill Creek next year.  Either the conditions or my gameplay (or both) were poor and I need another shot.  Probably had the most fun at Timber Pointe; played well and enjoyed great company!

Here is where I played in 2022

Midland CC, Pinehurst, NC

Mid Pines, Southern Pines, NC

Pine Needles, Southern Pines, NC

The Cradle, Pinehurst, NC

Whispering Pines, both Pines and River courses, Whispering Pines NC

Connestee Falls, somewhere near Brevard, NC

Foxfire Golf Club, both Red and Grey courses, Jackson Springs, NC

Country Club of North Carolina, Dogwood and Cardinal courses, Pinehurst, NC

Legacy Golf Links, Aberdeen, NC

When my wife asked if I wanted to leave Maine and move to where she grew up, I couldn't say no to Pinehurst, NC. I honestly don't spend much money on golf equipment, but I'm constantly reading reviews in case I ever get ready to buy

I swing left handed and have been the State of Maine Left Hander's champion since 1997, the last year they held the tournament. I'm currently a 7.1 handicap. Trying to get lower, but my gut gets in the way.

There are a few courses close by that I am looking forward to checking out. Some nice 9 hole courses too that are close by. With kid 2 coming it will be tricky, but I think 9 hole courses will be the name of the game and would love to make it 6-7 new courses for 2023.

It is such a fun challenge to play more courses vs the same ones over and over, but I guess if the course is good enough then it really doesn't end up mattering!

What do you all think? Prefer playing a variety? Just your member course or course close by? What are your 2023 plans for courses?

95 rounds on 25 different courses. Favorite was Merion West.  I haven’t been invited yet to play the East course. I was invited to play in a member guest at St George’s in Toronto and that’s right at the top of the list as well.
I’m retired and belong to a private club. I wake up every morning and remind myself that life is good.

If you use GHIN, there's a new feature called Rewind that gives you a quick summary of your year.

So I posted 117 rounds, up by more than 20 from 2021, at 30 different courses.  I can identify 14 in Virginia, 5 in CA, and 10 in NC, and one that my quick review couldn't identify.

Golf treated me very well in 2022.  I managed to play a personal best of 100 rounds on 29 different courses.  The bulk of them were at my home club in the Portland, Oregon area, but I also wondered from home a bit.

Home club:

The Reserve Vineyards and Golf Course, South

The Reserve Vineyards and Golf Course, North

Other Portland area courses:

Chehalem Glenn

Eagles Landing

Forest Hills GC

Langdon Farms

Meriwether National

Meriwether Executive

Oregon Golf Association course

Pumpkin Ridge GC, Ghost Creek

Quail Valley

Rock Creek CC

Other Oregon courses:

Bandon Dunes Resort, The Preserve course

Bandon Dunes Resort, Sheep Ranch course

Bandon Dunes Resort, Bandon Dunes course

Sunriver Resort, Meadows course

Sunriver Resort, Woodlands course

Sunriver Resort, Crosswater course

Pronghorn GC, Nicklaus course

Tucson, AZ:

El Conquistador CC

Washington state:

Chambers Bay

Gamble Sands

Gold Mountain, Olympics course

Salish Cliffs

Michigan:

Arcadia Bluffs, Bluffs course

Best of golf to all in 2023!

TPC Sawgrass, Stadium Course, Ponte Vedra Beach, GL

Well, Stadium Course counts the same as 50 other courses based on greens fees + caddie fees alone. Awesome that you checked that off your list! 👍🏼

Thanks for the nudge down memory lane!

Played 13 courses in 2022 -- more than I would have thought by probably 5-6.

Favorite was probably Pilgrim's Run (Pierson, MI).  Had heard about it for years but finally got to play it

Pilgrim’s is a great track. I grew up around Grand Rapids and was lucky enough to play there a couple times. Tons of good golf in that area.
