How is your gapping compared to the T200's (or whatever you were using prior to the HL's)? I'm intrigued by those irons if the gapping holds up comparatively.

Also, looks like I need to update your posted score... some of the numbers got a little out of sorts.... assuming you weren't 78 strokes over par 😉

As for gapping, I was using the PXG Gen 5 XP.  The lofts are definitely different, the 7 iron loft on the PXG is 28 degrees.   The Mizuno's are 32, so it's a full club "shorter" which I saw on the course.   Not that I was looking to get shorter, but as long as I know how far each club goes that's the important part, whether I hit a 6 iorn or 7 iron into a 135 yard shot doesn't really matter. Yeah, I know fo rsome of you that's a PW but that's another story.   Wedges, the PW is 45 and I have the set gap wedge at 50 and then vokey 54 and 58.

Oh and on the score, I tried to post +6 for the Net Score isnstead of the 78 but it didn't take it.  Maybe i entered somehting wrong?

Thanks Rob,

Yes, I expected the distances to be a little less due to the HL lofts, the controllable height and consistent distances is the win with these irons.  FWIW, I am not far away from your distances 🙂

Re: the posted score, if you enter the gross score, your course handicap, and the number of strokes you shot over par (in the gross over/under field) it should calculate your net score to par and overall net score.  This is how I edited your posted score:

Ah gotcha, I see I didn't know it was going to add a net field after I entered the amount over par.  I'm sure that was in the instructins somewhere, but I who reads those...ha

Yeah, the stopping ability from the increased height and spin came in very handy on some of the shots.  I'll work on increaseing distance with some off season speed training---"he says every year"  ha

Dumb question.  I notice that with this thread, width of the page seems to be adjusted to accommodate the table at the top resulting in the font sizes being really small and difficult to read.   Happening on my iPad, would need to check other devices to see if it is happening there.   Anyone else?

That is interesting... I do most of my forum "work" on  my computer so I didn't realize it adjusted the size of the thread to the leaderboard... I'll reach out to our technical team with that concern/question... may be able to adjust the leaderboard to maximize the thread view.  Thanks for the note!!

Might just be an ipad or tablet issue??  I just checked on my phone and the thread is full size... I have to scroll to the right to see the full leaderboard data... but I'd rather that than what your are seeing...

Doesn’t seem to be an issue on my phone (safari or chrome). I am using safari on my iPad.  If I rotate to landscape and then back to portrait it adjusts the sizes but then the text extends beyond the right side and I have to swipe/scroll to the right to see all of a single line.

Ok, thanks for checking.  I reported the issue... hopefully we can get it fixed.  That would be frustrating to deal with...

With Hurricane Nicole hitting the mainland of Florida, in the Keys we had 20-25 mph winds and occasional bands of brief showers.   That didn't stop us from hitting the links!   The wind direction was uncharacteristically from the West and made the course play quite differently today.  I didn't have my best day:  net 2 over.  Approaches were unusually short leading to several chips and one putts for bogey.  I hit 12 out of 14 narrow fairways in regulation, but only two greens in regulation.  With the exception of a natural birdie on the par 3 16, my missed putts were within inches of the pin.  26 putts with eight two putt greens (rest one putts therefore good chipping day).  A wind-aided 189 yard drive helped keep my string of "long for me"driving day streak in tacked.

Just returned from a quick 9 and my second evening 9 of the week.  Why is it easy to string 9 holes of good play together, but playing 18 holes is a recipe for disaster??

Earlier this week, I shot +1 37 (two bogeys, one birdie) on the front 9.  Tonight, My driver was on fire... left myself with wedges in on all but one par three, and that is only because it is a long dogleg left... still had a 7 iron in and stuck it to 3 feet.  Ended -1 35 (one silly bogey on a par three) and 2 birdies.  8/9 GIRs (silly par 3 😕 ).  Even par for the combined 18 holes.

In other news... swinging the Otto-Phlex shaft in my TSR3, and placing my PRGR radar down on the tee... I reached 96mph on one drive and 95mph on a few others.  With some help from downhill slopes, I had 2 drives that measured 291.

Happy Friday MGS Forum Members!!!

The winter is certainly starting to take its toll across the country, and with that - Golf Opportunities are more and more limited.  I saw that Central Washington received snow earlier this week, as did other northern states across the country.  As will probably be the case over the next few months... participation will be lower than previous months in the MGS Forum Member VWCT... but we will keep the weekly event alive for those that are able to get a round in here or there.

This week, we currently have 9 rounds posted, and I know the weekend will bring more golf and scores for the leaderboard!!

Also this week, we rolled out the new "Post Score" feature, and it has been working very well, and we will continue to improve and enhance it as we head through "Season 1" of the VWCT and into "Season 2" this coming spring.

As a helpful reminder on how to use the "Post Score" tool, I offer the following.  Additionally, I will work to add these comments right in the form so it is more intuitive when you are posting scores:

image.png

One thing to remember... you don't need to post your net score or your net score to par in the form above (unless you want to talk about it in your comments section) - those numbers will be automatically calculated based on the other answers given above.

Have a GREAT weekend everyone.

Play Often - Post Often

And if you can't get out to play - be sure to check out the PGA Tour at the Houston Open at Memorial Park GC on TV (I can almost see the course from my office window... and I can most certainly see the traffic from the event!!).

My problem also.  Stamina is the tough part and our balance goes before we feel tired.  I usually poop out around the 12th hole.

My story this week is similar to yours.  Too bad WHS is using combined 9s.  It leads to a greater measured ability vs real life.  I need to be careful about what scores I submit.  Not that it matters too much as a 38 handicap with a standard deviation of 12 strokes. 😝

Two back to back days of glorious 47° sunny afternoons playing hooky.    First round played with a found V1 and had terrible slices off the tee box.  Didn't learn until the 8th hole that I should be using my hybrid to get into the fairway.  The rest of the game was ok, but approach and putting sucked.  Still working on good contact with my irons and tend to fat a lot.

Typical tee shot of the day:

Second round was a bit better feeling but wound up giving up an extra stroke compared to the first round.  Played with the new 2023 Titelist V1x (PROTO 348) that I'm testing currently.  Wanted to see back to back course comparisons, playing with the new V1 on Sunday.  Also made a MAJOR change to my driver swing.  Straightened it out and maybe gained some speed.  No way to know.  However, most of my drives had no curve and carried about 50 yards more than my previous average.  Due to the muddy conditions they didn't roll out more than a yard or two, but was getting near 200 yards average on the drives for the round and mostly on or near the fairway.  I'd like to say some of it had to do with the ball also, but it's all so new I have no way to say.  Unfortunately, wasn't able to get any Shot Tracer captures as I was paired with two other guys and the course was surprisingly busy on Wednesday compared to Tuesday.  Again, irons proved to be my major downfall and putting suffered due to my lack of being able to adjust for how much more lively this test ball is off the putter face compared to my current gamer.

I did hit a skyball on the #6 hole that found a good soft spot 132 yards out.  Made a long hole a bit longer..

Hey 227 in the slop is not a bad drive Mr. M.  So what was the major swing change you made on the 2nd round?  Playing Hooky Golf is some of the best golf there is!!

Can you post your score using the "post score" button?  I just realized I didn't have the manually post score functionality built into the back end of this new feature.

Changing up the venue for Week 7 tour play, Concord Crest Golf Course in Springville, NY.

Rained the whole round from light to heavy downpour and everything in between with a slight letup of the deluge on the 18th.  Totally amazed that I had 4 pars in one round!  Lots of net birdies, though as result of the last 2 rounds the SwingU handicap dropped by 1.5 strokes.

Screenshot_20221111-145418_SwingU.jpg.63cefd056eaf65c151566e7f6e45fb51.jpg Longest drive for the day was 191 yards.  If I'm counting right there's 9 net birdies on the card and applying HCP of 25 that makes the round a Net 65 for +6 on the Par 71 course.

Not a bad way to spend Veterans Day.  I was the 3rd golfer on the course, saw the others a few holes ahead of me and they only played 9.  From the 5th to finish it was my private golf course with only grounds crew about on occasion.

Probably a typo... but looks like you shot a MINUS 6 to par.  Great round!!!  Make sure you post your score using the "Post Score" button so your info will be updated to the Leaderboard.

Yes, that field has been confusing... I'm working to edit the description on that.

If you edit your post, and enter the strokes over par in that field (you shot 90 on a par 71 so that would be 11 strokes over par).  When you enter 11 there, it will subtract your course handicap and post your -6 🙂  Let me know if you have any trouble editing the post and I can give you a hand.
