Welcome Forum Members!!

WEEK 9 of the MYGOLFSPY Forum Member Virtual Weekly Championship Tour (VWCT)

is underway!!

I know it is a challenge for many for find breaks in the weather for a round of golf this time of year, but if you do happen to play (or play more than once) - tell us all about it by posting your score here using the convenient "POST SCORE" button at the top and bottom of this thread.  You can also give us a shot by shot retelling of your round in the comments section is you want :).

As always, each week's low net score, most net birdies or better and longest drive have the honor of sporting the MGS VWCT badge on your profile.  Last week's winners included:

@Blueberry_Squishie @Mr. Mushball @fozcycle @JFish350 and @Golf2Much

Check out the final Week 8 results here:

https://forum.mygolfspy.com/topic/54855-week-8-mgs-forum-member-virtual-weekly-championship-tour-vwct/

We also have the MGS FORUM TURKEY SHOOT going on this week through Friday.  Build your 2 Person Best Ball Team and post your two individual rounds by the end of this Friday.  Turkey Shoot Winners will be announced over the weekend - but the leaderboard will be updated as scores come in.  Learn more about that event here:

https://forum.mygolfspy.com/topic/54809-mgs-forum-member-virtual-turkey-shoot-2-person-best-ball/

Good Luck!!!

I feel honored being associated with my fellow Week 8 Virtual Weekly Championship Tour winners.  As consistently the shortest driver of my fellow competitors, I guess I must be doing something right to be even in contention.

Originally from Rochester, New York, I feel for those impacted by last week's snowstorm in Buffalo.  After dealing with the cold, snow and cloudiness most of my life, I now get to enjoy the warmer and sunnier weather of Key West year-round.   For those up North struggling to get their last round in before the deep freeze sets in, come on down and give Key West Golf Club a try.  Guaranteed no snow and shorts weather!

Was a really fun day. Mud balls all over, however was happy with how the course played and its condition with all the rain we had got the last few days and weeks. Played so much better than last time around there and only lost one ball due to just simply not being able to find it. Had a lip out for back to back real birdies, 3 other lipouts on pars. Struggled with the putter... that will be in another thread though.

I made it happen today. Course was busy for the front nine so I walked then hopped in the cart to finish up the back nine in about 50 minutes lol

Been  making huge improvements in my swing the last couple weeks and it's starting to show. Consistently getting my drives to 290 without wind help. Only drawback is that I need to relearn my distances. Nothing like setting up a second stroke about 130 out and sailing an 8 iron over the green. Feels bad but also kinda good.

Highlight of the round was #18. Was almost 6 PM and all I could do was try to figure out how the swing felt to get an idea of where to search the big dark field. Drive was a mishit and came up a bit short but found it's way to the middle of the fairway. Felt like I caught it off the toe a bit and I think that's what saved it. 2nd shot I opted for a 4 in the hope that if I'm short of the green I might have a chance of finding it. I found it - in the sand. An awesome sand shot put me a couple feet from the hole and I ended the round with a tap in birdie!

We get a couple more days of 50* weather here so hopefully, I can get a couple more rounds in this week.

Got out early this week since Thanksgiving will not allow a round later this week. Finally started to play like I feel like I should. The driver was mostly cooperating and had a few drives in the 280 yard range. Best one was 284.DF62C3AD-3C28-486A-9A75-B7C48D03B28A.jpeg.da5def9532f18129f1402d597d7b1376.jpeg

In the other thread, I am testing the Titleist prototype balls and was able to use the V1X and 348 today. They are great balls that perform very well. I still can’t tell a difference between the new and old 348 dimple ball.

Nope, the view was blocked by a front bunker. As I strolled up to the green, my buddy said I didn’t need my putter!

I posted some of the details for this round in the Turkey Shoot Thread... but this ties my all time best score (which I shot earlier this year).

4 birdies and one bogey (and it was so close to being a clean card... good drive in the middle of the fairway and left my approach shot wide right, but had a good lie and chipped to about 8 feet... lipped the putt for par... but I'm not complaining).

I hit several 3/4 approach shots... using my 50*, PW, 9 iron and even one from 140 with my 7 iron - on 18 to about 4 feet... and my 4th birdie of the day :).

**Note... I am proud of the fact that I broke the post score form as it will not accept a negative number in the gross strokes to par.  Luckily, I know someone that can help me with that fix... but I'm going to wear the fact of shooting under par as a badge of honor 🙂  Until it is fixed, my actual net score to par was -6. (I edited my course handicap to 6 so the net score would calculate correctly.. .not trying to pull anything... just want to accurately reflect my net score until I can have the form fixed to allow a negative gross score to be entered).

Great day today!!!! New irons, beautiful weather, new putting stroke and putter were great, and I figured out my driver swing on the back 9. Can’t complain. It should’ve been a 73… Choked the last three holes.

Nice winter ball.  Got some data entry to do as ShotScope can't handle the cold and missed some of my tee (maybe 2nd and 3rd) shots.  Got a good score to tie for first again...

One more for this week, though on a course I don't usually do well on.  May be a lights on, lights off kind of week. We'll see.

After rain for the better part of Thanksgiving Day, my course was pretty soft and sloppy today, plus the wind was blowing ~20mph by the end of the round... made for a challenging day.  I was able to keep my drives fairly straight (though short) and was hitting my irons ok for the conditions - though I was needing 2 or 3 clubs more on many holes due to no roll out with the driver and the wind knocking the ball out of the air.  Kept the ball on or around the green, my chipping didn't hurt me, and my putter saved me several times.  2nd day in a row I birdied the first hole... though today it took me 14 more holes to card my 2nd birdie.

Not a ton to say, lost 3 balls. Great weather! Haha. Still fun but man it was a struggle out there at a very tricked up course.

Looking at the bottom of my scorecard, I should not have done as well as I did.  Most shots off the tee were errant, but went far enough that I could either get an easy second shot at the green, or clear enough to get a rescue shot to position for a third shot on.

The ground was soft as it had warmed up and rained the day before.  Not so much roll out, but the greens were easier to play than earlier this week.  My approach shots were usually short, but many times was able to get to the fringe, so it was usually a putt to get on, then maybe two to get down.  Had very few 3 putts compared to recently,  had more 1 putts than three puts, so under a 2 average.

Mostly I found again how to swing easy and not try to kill the ball.  I was also able to start using more of a bogey golf strategy and not try for anything over ambitious or heroic.  Just get it to a comfortable approach range and get it on the green in one over regulation, then not rush the putts.  That worked out well for an overall net -4.

Very pedestrian round today.  I wish I had the cold, snow or another good reason I didn't play up to my best today.

If you looked at the round stats, you'd think it was a pretty solid round (with the exception of GIR, but that's about half of what I usually have).  I was short of every tee and just didn't feel like I hit the ball well today.

Better luck next week!

It is amazing how much differently the course plays in soft conditions!!  Great round considering all you were up against!!

Great day today!!!! New irons, beautiful weather, new putting stroke and putter were great, and I figured out my driver swing on the back 9. Can’t complain. It should’ve been a 73… Choked the last three holes.

So compared to the ZX5/7's, anything stand out with the i230's?  From the outside, they look to be a comparison with the T200 and Stealth irons (lots of tech under the hood of that back cap).  How is the feel to you going from forged to cast?

Definitely seemed to be more forgiving, and there wasn’t a big “feel” difference coming from the Z. It’s hard to describe the feeling because they weren’t like previous Pings I played, almost had a “heavier” feel off the face. I had a number of shots that still hit the green that wouldn’t have with the Z combo, and distance forgiveness seemed to be better as well. It was only one round, but forgiveness was quite noticeable.

Foggy at the start of a 10:30 shotgun and 36º.  My wife and I played with another couple.  Shot 41/35 for 76 with 2 natural birdies back-to-back on #13 and #14 and 3 net birdies on the par 5 #9, par 4 #10 after sticking a short pitch shot to tap-in range, and the par 3 #15 with a sand save.

You are like the post office Kenny.  Through rain, and sleet and snow!!  Great playing in adverse conditions.
